Fusion CX opens BPO facility; firm's India workforce to hit 10,000

Business process management (BPM) company Fusion CX on Friday announced the opening of a 500-seat facility in Navi Mumbai. The company, which employs 9,500 of its global workforce of over 14,000 in India, aims to add another 500 employees to take its overall base in the country to over 10,000 in the next quarter, as per an official statement. It will serve global clientele out of the newly-opened facility spread over 20,000 square feet. The facility will help offer multi-lingual, omni-channel customer experience management, technical support, and back-office operations to clients in various sectors including healthcare, BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance), technology, retail, and utilities. The company's director and co-founder Kishore Saraogi said the expansion of the Mumbai operation will help Fusion CX establish a strong presence in all four regions (north, east, west, south) of the country.

The technology industry in India continues to draw Gen Z students with 77 per cent of them showing interest towards the sector, a report by Nasscom-Indeed said. Millennials and Gen Zs constitute around 90 per cent of the tech workforce in India enabling higher generational diversity and driving a shift in preferences. "Learning and Growth and Culture and Ethics are the top criteria for both Millennials and Gen Z when selecting an organisation, highlighting the employers' continued focus on skilling and upskilling to navigate the current work environment and develop their desired career paths," the Nasscom-Indeed Future of Work report 2024, which was released on Monday, said. Quality workforce, investment in R&D essential to become 'developed nation'

To bolster its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, India needs to substantially increase the size of its quality workforce and investment in R&D in science and technology, including by the private sector, a top Indian official has said. In an interview with PTI on the sidelines of the PANIIT 2024 meeting in a Maryland suburb of Washington DC, Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said that one of the key challenges that India has is shortage of trained manpower in R&D sector and "that requires to be enhanced substantially. No incentives for industrial units that do not have 80% locals: Himachal

Industrial units not abiding by the government's directive to have 80 per cent locals in their workforce will not get any incentive, Himachal Pradesh industry minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said on Friday. About 81 per cent of Himachalis are working in the 27,719 industrial units functional in the state. At present a total of 2,28,977 workers have been employed in these units, out of which 1,86,289 workers are from Himachal, Chauhan informed the state assembly while replying to a question of K L Thakur (MLA from Nalagarh) and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal (MAL from Barsar). He said that 80 per cent bonafide Himachalis would be engaged in the industrial enterprises as per the criteria of Himachal Pradesh Industrial Investment Policy-2019. The percentage of Himachalis is 72.60 per cent in Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh industrial area where 94,560 workers are working in 2,714 industrial units, he added. As employees return to office, cigarette demand may rise by 7-9% in FY24

Return of a large number of workforce to offices, coupled with a stable tax regime, is likely to push up cigarette demand by 7-9 per cent this fiscal, according to a report. Cigarette volumes saw an 18 per cent rebound in the last fiscal after the pandemic hit demand in the previous two financial years, the report by Crisil Ratings said on Thursday. Going forward, volume growth is expected to move closer to the long-term average of 5 per cent, the rating agency said in the report. On the other hand, profitability of manufacturers is likely to remain strong despite input cost pressures in FY24 as they focus on premium cigarettes and hike prices in select categories, the report said.
