The country's largest airline IndiGo on Thursday said it will introduce business class in flights on the busiest routes this year. Details on product offering, launch date and routes will be unveiled around its 18th anniversary in August. "In a groundbreaking move to redefine business travel in India, IndiGo, India's most preferred airline, announces the plan to launch a tailor-made business product for India's busiest and business routes," the airline said in a release. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said it is constantly looking at innovating service offerings. "We believe, as India gears up to become the third largest economy in the world, it's our privilege to provide the New India even more options to choose from as they travel business. We are excited with this new phase and tailor-made product in IndiGo's evolution and strategy and aim to further give wings to the nation, by connecting people and aspirations," he said.

In an apparent security lapse, a standby passenger in place of a confirmed ticket holder boarded the Varanasi-bound IndiGo flight at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday and was later deboarded before the plane took off. Generally, an airline staff who can take a flight in case there is a vacant seat is referred to as a standby passenger. In a statement, IndiGo said there was an error during the passenger boarding process of 6E 6543 from Mumbai to Varanasi, wherein a standby passenger was allotted a seat reserved for a confirmed passenger. "The error was noticed prior to the departure of the aircraft, and the standby passenger was de-boarded. This led to a slight delay in the departure of the aircraft," the airline said. Further, IndiGo said it will take all measures to strengthen its operational processes.

Low-cost carrier IndiGo has announced direct flights between Jharkhand's Deoghar and Bengaluru three times a week from June 1, a company statement said. The direct flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On these days, flight number 6E 6435 will take off from Bengaluru at 10.05 am and reach Deoghar at 12.25 pm. The return flight, 6E 6437, will leave Deoghar at 12.55 pm and land in Bengaluru at 3.25 pm, it said. The new route will enhance connectivity from the southern part of India to the famous religious hubs in Jharkhand, the airline said in a statement on Friday. IndiGo has received a tax demand following the rejection of an input tax credit that was availed by the company in 2018-19. In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, the company said it has received a "demand of Rs 31,240, including tax of Rs 21,240 and penalty of Rs 10,000 for the FY 2018-19". The demand has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner of the tax department in Hyderabad. "The tax officer has denied input tax credit of Rs 21,240 availed by the company and raised the... demand," the filing said. The company also said there is no material impact on financials, operations or other activities due to the demand.
