White collar hiring in India witnessed a 16 per cent decline in December compared to the year-ago period due to cautious hiring sentiments in IT, BPO, education, retail and healthcare sectors, a report said on Tuesday. "We observed marginal sequential growth of 2 per cent in December hiring activity compared to November, driven by non-IT sectors. However, the IT sector continued to be significantly impacted pulling the overall index down by 16 per cent against last year signalling a longer wait for a complete recovery in IT hiring," Naukri.com Chief Business Officer Pawan Goyal said analysing the Naukri JobSpeak Index. According to the Naukri JobSpeak Index, sectors like BPO, education, retail, and healthcare displayed cautious hiring sentiments, witnessing a year-on-year decline of 17 per cent, 11 per cent, 11 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively, in job offers in December. Rajasthan announces one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for registered gig workers

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday announced a one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for gig workers to purchase helmets, uniforms and other items of daily use when they register with the state government. The announcement will benefit delivery personnel working with companies such as Ola, Uber, Swiggy and Zomato, among others. "The gig workers will get Rs 5,000 as a one-time payment on registration," Gehlot said during a function to release the "Mission 2030" document in Jaipur. He also announced a 90 per cent fare exemption on Rajasthan Roadways buses for those with monthly passes. The government will also set up a ministerial employees directorate to handle all works related to ministry staff -- including promotions, transfers and postings -- in different departments, the chief minister announced.

Delhi govt hikes minimum wages of workers in unorganised sector: Report

The Delhi government has raised the minimum wages of workers in the unorganised sector, saying this will be a respite for them from inflation. The new rates of minimum wages will be effective from April 1, the government said in a statement. The minimum wage given to labourers in Delhi is the "highest" as compared to other states of the country. Lakhs of labourers and employees in Delhi will get the benefit, claimed Delhi Labour Minister Raaj Kumar Anand. According to the new rates, the monthly wage of skilled workers has been increased from Rs 20,357 to Rs 20,903, a hike of Rs 546. The monthly salary of semi-skilled workers has been increased by Rs 494 per month from Rs 18,499 to Rs 18,993, the statement said. There will a monthly raise of Rs 442 in the minimum wages of unskilled workers, from Rs 16,792 to Rs 17,234. Women in Indian informal sector ready for lower wages for health benefits

There is a growing aspirational shift in the mindset of female representatives in the informal workforce, as a significant percentage of women said they are ready to compromise on higher salaries in lieu of health benefits, according to a survey. As per the survey by business service provider Quess Corp, 63 per cent of women in the Indian informal economy would compromise on salaries for health security benefits, compared to only 28 per cent of men. For the report, 4,179 respondents were surveyed between September 2022 and January 2023. For an increasing proportion of female employees, job security, training and career development are becoming absolute priorities even beyond the contents of their pay slips, it said.
