International Yoga Day celebrated at UN with special meditation session

Yoga offers a time-tested path to live more peacefully at a time when stress and mental health challenges are on the rise, India's envoy to the UN has said at a special guided meditation session here to mark International Yoga Day. Eminent physician, author and wellness guru Deepak Chopra led the session at the UN headquarters hosted by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations to mark the day on Friday evening. Millennials lead yoga adoption with 74% practising regularly: Report

A new study finds that 74 per cent of millennials include yoga in their daily wellness routines, making them the leading age group in regular practice, closely followed by Gen X at 70 per cent. India's sports administrators would be "lobbying" hard during the upcoming Paris Olympics to brighten the country's chances of hosting the 2036 Games where they will push for the inclusion of indigenous disciplines like yoga, kho kho and kabaddi if their ambitious bid is successful. Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Friday urged citizens to incorporate yoga into their day-to-day lives to yield its benefits. The minister, who performed yoga at the Yamuna Sports complex on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), noted that the United Nations General Assembly, heeding to a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had made a declaration to observe June 21 every year as IDY.
