Jharkhand on alert as bird flu cases reported in state-run poultry farm

The Jharkhand government is on alert after bird flu cases were reported in a government-run poultry farm in Bokaro district, official said on Tuesday. The presence of H5N1 variant was confirmed among a protein-rich breed of chicken, popularly known as 'Kadaknath', at the farm in Lohanchal, they said. "Kadaknath chickens died due to bird flu in Government Poultry Farm located in Lohanchal, as per report received from the laboratory...Areas within one km radius has been declared as affected zone and areas within 10 km radius declared as surveillance zone. "Sale of chicken/duck etc will be banned in these areas," an official statement issued by Bokaro district administration said. Justice Sanjaya K Mishra takes oath as new chief justice of Jharkhand HC

Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra took oath as the 14th chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court on Monday. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Mishra at the Raj Bhavan here. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his cabinet colleagues, several judges and senior government officials attended the swearing-in ceremony. The post of the chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court was lying vacant after the superannuation of justice Ravi Ranjan on December 19, 2022. The Union Ministry of Law and Justice on February 17 issued a notification regarding the appointment of justice Mishra as the chief justice of the high court. Mishra, 61, was earlier a judge at the Uttarakhand High Court.

Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra was on Friday appointed as the chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court. A judge at the Uttarakhand High Court at present, Justice Mishra's name was recommended for elevation by the Supreme Court Collegium on December 13 last year. Born in 1961, he turned 61 in December last year. High court judges retire at the age of 62. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the fresh appointment on Twitter. "Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, Judge in Uttarakhand High Court has been appointed as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. I extend my best wishes to him," Rijiju said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday visited the Thakur Anukul Chandra Ashram in Jharkhand's Deoghar district. Shah visited the ashram in Deoghar and stayed there for 20 minutes, an ashram official said. "Had the good fortune to visit Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra Ji's Satsang Ashram in Deoghar today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jharkhand's Deoghar, where he will lay the foundation stone of a nano urea plant of IFFCO and address a BJP rally on Saturday. He will also take part in the centenary celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapeeth, besides paying obeisance at the famed Baba Baidyanath Temple, as per an official statement. "The Union home minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of a Rs 300-crore nano urea plant of the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO)," the company's Managing Director U S Awasthi told PTI. Jharkhand gets Rs 5,271 cr from Budget for rail infrastructure augmentation

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said that Jharkhand has been allocated a whopping Rs 5,271 crore from the Union Budget to augment the railway infrastructure of the state. Addressing the media through video conferencing, the minister said the annual average budget outlay for Jharkhand was around 11 times higher than what the state used to get between 2009 and 2014. He said that as many as 57 stations will be redeveloped in the state and they would be made world-class stations. I request the state government to provide support in land acquisition, forest clearance and law and order so that projects could be completed quickly, he said. 51 IEDs found in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum after blast injures 3 jawans

Fifty-one IEDs were found in a search operation in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Thursday after three para-military jawans were injured, police said. The IEDs, planted by banned Maoists, were recovered at a forest near Meralgada village in Goilkera police station area, Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar said. A bomb disposal squad defused the explosives at the spot, he said, adding that the search operation was still underway. Three CRPF jawans of the 60th battalion were injured when Maoists triggered an IED blast at the forest around 11 am. Acting on a tip-off that Maoist leaders have assembled at the forest, a search operation was launched by the security forces and during that time, the IED exploded. Three jawans, identified as Rakesh Pathak, BD Anal and Pankaj Yadav, were injured in the explosion, Shekhar said. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has questioned the returning of a bill by Governor Ramesh Bais, which sought to use 1932 land records to determine the domicile status of people in the state. Soren asserted that his government had framed the Khatiyan' or land records-based legislation to provide employment to local residents on priority basis in class 3 and 4 grade (clerical, semi-skilled and unskilled) jobs. "However, unfortunately, the governor of the state returned the bill," Soren said on Tuesday, while addressing a public meeting during his ongoing second phase of 'Khatiyan Johar Yatra', at Gopal Maidan here. 2 doctors among 5 killed in nursing home fire in Jharkhand's Dhanbad

At least five people, including two doctors, were killed in a fire in a private nursing home in Jharkhand's Dhanbad on Saturday, an official said. The deceased include the medical establishment's owner Dr Vikas Hazra, his wife Dr Prema Hazra, the owner's nephew Sohan Khamari and domestic help Tara Devi. A fire broke out at the store room of the nursing home-cum-private house in Bank More area of Dhanbad, around 170 km from Ranchi, around 2 am, he said. Dhanbad Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Kumar Tiwary told PTI, At least five people, including the owner and his wife, died due to suffocation following a fire in the store room. One person is also injured. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and further investigation is underway. Four deceased have been identified, while the fifth person is yet to be identified, he added.

Soren becomes first J'khand CM to visit former Maoist hotbed 'Budha Pahad'

Hemant Soren on Friday became the first Jharkhand chief minister to visit the Budha Pahad' once a Maoist hotbed that was freed from the red rebels' control by security forces after over three decades situated near the border with Chhattisgarh, officials said. Soren arrived at the hilltop a little after noon, where the CRPF has now set up a camp, they said. He is expected to launch a slew of welfare schemes in Budha Pahad', located around 150 km from state capital Ranchi, along the Latehar and Garhwa districts. Security forces managed to free the area from the grip of Maoists through three special operations that were launched since the beginning of April 2022. A total of 14 Maoists were killed, while 590 others were either apprehended or had surrendered during these operations, the officials said. Earlier attempts to drive out the red rebels from Budha Pahad' did not materialise due to its difficult terrain, they added.

Asha workers' indefinite strike enters 3rd day in J'khand over salary hike

The indefinite strike by 'Asha' workers in Jharkhand entered the third day on Wednesday as they stuck to their charter of demands, including a hike in their remuneration.
