Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot said Tuesday that the MGNREGA will be strengthened in the state and the dues will be cleared soon. Pilot said the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) was stopped for the last three to four years but a special campaign has been initiated across the state from January 5 after which work days under the scheme increased to 23.46 lakh from 12.52 lakh. He said Rajasthan is a leading state in terms of MGNREGA and the 'Kaam Maango Abhiyan' under the scheme has been started by the government. The Congress leader said 83 per cent payment is being made on time under the scheme. Replying to a question raised by CPI(M) legislator Girdhari Lal, he said 9,026 construction projects were completed from January 1 to till date in Bikaner district. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday announced enhancement of wages for the labour class, as part of New Year gifts to state government employees. As per a government order, the initial wages on appointment of unskilled contingent employees, casual workers and daily labourers have been hiked from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 per month and from Rs 9,000 to Rs 11,000 for skilled contingent employees. The unskilled contingent employees after completing 15 years and above in service getting fixed wages of Rs 11,000 per month till retirement, would now receive Rs 13,000 from 15-20 years and Rs 16,000 as monthly wages after completing 20 years of service, it said. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a monthly hike of Rs 100 in pension to all destitute persons even as it rejected reports of launching a special pension scheme for seers. At present, all old age, widow and disabled destitute persons get a monthly pension of Rs 400. The state government has issued directives to authorities concerned to organise camps all over the state till January 30 to enrol all those eligible for the assistance, a government spokesperson said. Minister for Social Welfare Ramapati Ram Shastri said the aim is to cover all destitute under the pension scheme. The minister said that a section of the media is saying that a scheme is being brought specially for saints and seers which is not true. "Whoever is eligible and fulfils requisite norms will be brought under the scheme," Shastri pointed out. Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched a special drive against child labour in the state's Katra city and rescued seven children, an official said Monday. A police team and the Child Welfare Committee (care and protection of child team) conducted special drive against child labour, begging and other crimes related to juveniles in Katra Sunday, the senior police official said. During the special drive, the team found five children working at various eating points on the track to cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi and found two minors begging, he said. The rescued children were handed over by the Child Welfare Committee to their parents with proper guidelines of the Juvenile Justice Act, the official said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced a hike in the monthly pension amount for senior citizens in Odisha, under the "Madhu Babu Pension Yojana" scheme, raising the total number of old-age pension beneficiaries in the state to to 48 lakh.Pension beneficiaries up to the age of 79 years would now receive every month Rs 500 instead of Rs 300 and beneficiaries up to the age of 80 years would get Rs 700 instead of Rs 500.The Chief Minister made this announcement during the weekly "Ama Gaon Ama Bikash" programme."I wish that all bona fide beneficiaries of the state reap the benefits of the social security scheme.Keeping this in view, five lakh more beneficiaries have been included in the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana, thus 48 lakh beneficiaries will now reap the benefits.
The Assam government has increased the pension for freedom fighters of the state by Rs 1,000 per month with effect from January one. Now the freedom fighters of the state will get a pension of Rs 21,000 per month. The monthly pension has been enhanced from existing Rs 20,000 per month to Rs 21,000 per month and it will be applicable to all pensioners who are drawing the state freedom fighters' pension from the state exchequer, said a government release on Saturday.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday announced a hike of Rs 200 per month in the social security pension under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY). Patnaik made this announcement while attending a video conference on "Ama Gaon, Ama Bikash" Yojana here. He said 48 lakh elderly, disabled, widows and destitute women will be benefited. As per the enhanced pension, the elderly persons aged over 60 years will get a revised old age pension of Rs 500 per month as against Rs 300 and those who are more than 80 years old, the pension will be Rs 700 per month instead of Rs 500 per month, officials said. Stating that the enhanced pension will come into effect from February 15, 2019, Patnaik said his government had recently included five lakh more beneficiaries under MBPY. The state government had launched Madhu Babu Pension Yojana on January 1, 2008, by merging two pension schemes - Old Age Pension and Odisha Disability Pension schemes. National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Shama has called for regular inspections in rural areas of Karnataka to identify and prevent instances of bonded labourers after some such cases came to light recently. Fifty-two bonded labourers, including 17 women and four children, hailing from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were rescued in Hassan district in December. "There are lack of employment opportunities in rural Karnataka that makes it very easy for contractors to lure labourers and trap them. I am afraid to say that there must still be many cases of bondage existing and it must be one of the many," Sharma said. The matter came to light recently when one of the workers, who toiled for 20 days, escaped from the clutches of the gang by scaling the fence of the complex where they had been held captive, and informed the police about it. As many as 7,000 persons, mostly graduates, had applied for 13 vacant posts of canteen waiters in Mantralaya, the Maharashtra secretariat, an official said Friday. The government official said a 100-mark written exam was recently conducted for the posts, for which educational qualification required was having passed Class IV. "The exam formalities got completed on December 31 and currently the joining process is on. Out of the 13 selected applicants, eight are men and the rest women. Two-three people are yet to submit their documents and officially join," he said. He further said of the selected persons, 12 are graduates and one has passed Class 12, adding that the maximum applicants for the 13 posts were graduates and those who had cleared Class 12. "The campaign has been prepared by taking support from multiple stakeholders and this novel initiative will help in putting an end to child labour in Jaipur," said Karan Malik, programme manager of The British Asian Trust, part of the CLFJ campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday said his government has helped create crores of employment opportunities across sectors in the last four and a half years. The remarks assume significance as they come after the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, an independent think tank, recently estimated that 11 million jobs in the country were lost in 2018, with the rural sector being the worst hit.
