Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said in a video message on Independence Day today that the state will have no youth unemployment after a new policy is rolled out. The Goa government will soon announce an employment policy aimed at ensuring job for every youth in the coastal state, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Wednesday.
The Punjab government will give jobs to 10 poorest of poor youths in each village of the state as part of its goal to provide employment to five lakh persons under 'ghar ghar rozgar' scheme. "We will be selecting 10 youths who are from the poorest of poor category from each village and offer them jobs," a senior government functionary said here today. Punjab has around 13,000 villages and the state government has chalked out a plan to offer jobs to 1,30,000 youths under its employment scheme. "We have already compiled data of 1.22 lakh youths," the official said, adding that necessary skill would be provided to the selected youths to make them employable. India's second largest software services firm Infosys today said it will set up a new software development centre in Kolkata with an investment of Rs 100 crore. The centre is expected to provide employment to about 1,000 engineers. "As part of this project, spread over 50 acres, Infosys will invest approximately Rs 100 crore in the first phase of construction to build a 525,000 sq ft facility, in which the company will create employment for 1,000 engineers initially," Infosys said in a filing. The first phase of the project will be completed within 15 months from the date of obtaining all statutory clearances, it added. The centre's foundation stone was laid by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub in Kolkata, where the project is located. An umbrella organisation of working journalists in Nepal has demanded early implementation of the increase in minimum wage of scribes as fixed by the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee (MWFC). The MWFC has set the minimum salary of journalists at Rs 19,500. The central committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) in a recent meeting has also urged the government to endorse a model law on mass communications drafted by it to guarantee freedom of the press and of expression. "FNJ strongly demands that the federal, provincial and local level governments give uniformity to media-related laws in line with the policy and to ensure formulation of laws friendly to press freedom.
