Parrikar promises to wipe out unemployment with new policy
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said in a video message on Independence Day today that the state will have no youth unemployment after a new policy is rolled out. The proposed employment policy will offer incentives to industries for hiring local people, said Parrikar, who is in the US for follow-up treatment for a pancreatic ailment. The policy will be soon announced, he said. "This year, we have planned a new action plan for generating employment for our local youth involving affirmative action which will include providing incentives and subsidies to the industries which give priority to employ the locals," he said. "With this, I am hopeful that in the coming one or two years, there will be no unemployed youth in Goa," he said. The employment policy will generate much-needed enthusiasm among the youth, Parrikar added. The Punjab government will give jobs to 10 poorest of poor youths in each village of the state as part of its goal to provide employment to five lakh persons under 'ghar ghar rozgar' scheme. "We will be selecting 10 youths who are from the poorest of poor category from each village and offer them jobs," a senior government functionary said here today. Even as employee engagement (EE) plays an important role in a company's performance, only one quarter of respondents feel their organisation makes it a top priority, according to a study. Only 26 per cent agree that their organisation makes EE a top priority, supports their efforts to engage their employees and works to engage them as leaders with another 43 per cent agreeing to some extent, according to a study by Dale Carnegie. The study further said 10 per cent actually disagreed that their organisation succeeds with one or more of those three elements of a culture of engagement. Infosys to invest Rs 100cr in software development centre in Kolkata, create 1,000 jobs
India's second largest software services firm Infosys today said it will set up a new software development centre in Kolkata with an investment of Rs 100 crore. The centre is expected to provide employment to about 1,000 engineers. "As part of this project, spread over 50 acres, Infosys will invest approximately Rs 100 crore in the first phase of construction to build a 525,000 sq ft facility, in which the company will create employment for 1,000 engineers initially," Infosys said in a filing. The first phase of the project will be completed within 15 months from the date of obtaining all statutory clearances, it added. The centre's foundation stone was laid by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub in Kolkata, where the project is located. Infosys CEO and Managing Director Salil Parekh commended the chief minister for giving the company a unique opportunity to be a part of the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub project, and further strengthen its presence .
Journalists in Nepal demand minimum pay hike
An umbrella organisation of working journalists in Nepal has demanded early implementation of the increase in minimum wage of scribes as fixed by the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee (MWFC). The MWFC has set the minimum salary of journalists at Rs 19,500. The central committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) in a recent meeting has also urged the government to endorse a model law on mass communications drafted by it to guarantee freedom of the press and of expression. "FNJ strongly demands that the federal, provincial and local level governments give uniformity to media-related laws in line with the policy and to ensure formulation of laws friendly to press freedom. "The federation draws the attention of the authority concerned to formulate special safety laws for journalists and mass media in a way to exercise the constitutionally-guaranteed full press freedom, reads the decision made public following the meeting.
