A Delhi court today summoned former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh's son Vikramaditya and others to appear before it on August 27 in a money laundering case. Special Judge Arvind Kumar considered a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 21 against Vikramaditya in the money laundering case, which also involves the former Himachal Pradesh chief minister. The charge sheet, filed by special public prosecutors Nitesh Rana and N K Matta, also named Managing Director of Tarani Infrastructure, Vakamulla Chandrasekhar and one Ram Prakash Bhatia as accused. Both Chandrasekhar and Bhatia are also accused in a CBI case related to the matter, along with Virbhadra Singh, his wife Pratibha Singh and others. Rakbar Khan, who was allegedly lynched to death on the suspicion of cow smuggling in Rajasthan's Alwar district, died of shock caused by his injuries, the post-mortem report has said. On Saturday, Rakbar and his friend Aslam were taking cows to their villages in Haryana through a forest area in Alwar's Ramgarh, where they were caught by a group of people. While Aslam managed to flee, Rakbar was allegedly thrashed brutally by the group. A three-member medical board which conducted the post-mortem said, "The cause of death in this case is shock as a result of injuries sustained over body." The board, comprising Dr Sanjay Gupta, Dr Amit Mittal and Dr Rajiv Gupta of the General Hospital of Alwar, made the remarks in the post-mortem report. Khan sustained multiple injuries in the attack. Gold worth about Rs one crore has been seized by customs officials from four people who were allegedly trying to smuggle it into the country at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here. The seizures were effected in two separate instances reported in the last four days. In the first case, a man was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai yesterday and his baggage search resulted in seizure of 20 gold bars, collectively weighing 2.3 kg and valued at Rs 69.73 lakh, a statement issued by the customs department today said, adding the passenger was arrested. In another instance, three men were intercepted after their arrival from Muscat on Friday. A personal search and an inspection of their baggage resulted in recovery of seven gold bars weighing 1.01 kg and valued at Rs 30.35 lakh. The three accused were arrested, the statement said.

The Supreme Court today expressed dissatisfaction over the Centre's response on appointment of search committee members for a Lokpal. A bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi, R Banumathi and Navin Sinha asked the Centre to file a fresh affidavit giving relevant details of the search committee. During the hearing, Attorney General K K Venugopal submitted an affidavit and said a meeting of the selection committee was held but the names for the search committee were not finalised. He said another meeting would be held soon for appointing members of the search committee, keeping in mind the provisions of law for such appointments. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for petitioner NGO Common Cause, said the Centre has not specified the date of the next meeting and they are actually delaying the appointment of a Lokpal despite passage of a law nearly five years ago. He said contempt action should be initiated against authorities concerned or the court may proceed ahead for appointing the Lokpal .
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a couple at Bagdogra near here, a senior police officer said. The two persons were identified as Sanjay Tamang and Bhumika Sheva and the latter was an employee of the victim, Ajay Kushwah, who used to supply staff for catering service. Both of them were arrested from the couple's house at Sukantanagar locality yesterday, DCP Tarun Haldar said. Old enmity and greed for money had led to the killing of the couple -- Ajay Kushwah and Meena Kushwah, DCP Tarun Haldar said. Ajay Kushwah had received payment from a customer on that day and Bhumika Sheva, who used to stay in the third floor of his house, had seen him keeping the money, the DCP said. A 16-year-old girl died today after she was allegedly set ablaze by her jilted lover at Chaukhandi village under Safdarganj police station limits in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said. The girl was at a neighbour's house when the accused, identified as Amit (24), dragged her out, poured kerosene and set her on fire, they said. The victim's father, in his complaint, also alleged the involvement of the accused's mother in the crime. The girl suffered serious burn injuries and was rushed to the district hospital where she died. The girl was allegedly in touch with another local youth and this might have led him to committing the crime, the police said, adding that a case was registered and efforts were on to nab the culprit. Circle Officer Rajesh Yadav, who visited the spot, said the girl had some arguments with the accused after which he set her ablaze. All angles will be probed in the case, Yadav said.
Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district and 44 kilograms of poppy straw was seized from their possession, the police said today. Last evening, a private car was stopped for checking at Pushana village along the Mughal Road and a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 44 kgs of poppy straw, a police officer said. The arrested accused were transporting it from the Valley to their residence in Punjab, he added. The trio has been booked under relevant sections of the law, he said. Poppy straw is the source of opium, which is used as an analgesic and narcotic medicinal and recreational drug.
Gutka worth Rs 35 lakh was seized and two persons were arrested in this connection from Virar Phata in neighbouring Palghar district, police said today. Gutka, which is banned in Maharashtra, was being transported into the state from Gujarat when it was seized on Sunday, Palghar district rural police said. The police had received a tip-off that a vehicle would be transporting the banned substance into Maharashtra from the neighbouring state. Accordingly, police kept a close vigil and intercepted the vehicle on Sunday, an official release said. "As many as 153 gunny bags of gutka was seized along with the tempo that was coming from Gujarat, and two persons were arrested," it said adding that the action was taken by the personnel of Local Crime Branch of Vasai Unit. The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has been informed about the seizure of gutka, police said. Further investigation into the case is on.
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four men in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, the police said today. All the four accused, identified as Sukha Tomar, Sonpal Tomar, Ankit Tomar and Dadua Tomar, were arrested last evening, Nagar police station in-charge Jiten Sharma said. The accused, aged between 25 to 30 years, abducted the girl on Sunday evening when she had gone out of her house in Kuretha village to attend nature's call. They took her to a field outside the village where they allegedly raped her before fleeing from the spot, Sharma said. The girl managed to reach home and narrated her ordeal to her parents, who filed a police complaint yesterday, he said. All the accused, residents of the same village, have been booked under sections 376(D) (gang-rape) and 363 (abduction) of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.

A person has been arrested after a video of 16-year old girl being molested by three men in Jhansi surfaced on media.Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kuldeep Narain said that they have arrested one of the accused on Monday night. A 50-year-old man was electrocuted to death while wading through rain waters outside the Rewari civil hospital, police said today. Banke Bihari, a farmer from Gangachay Jat village here, suffered electric shock yesterday as he came quite close to the power transformer while wading through rain waters that had accumulated outside the boundary wall of the civil hospital, Gokal Gate police post in-charge, Mahipal said. According to the complaint lodged by the deceased's brother, Bihari was electrocuted while he was wading through the nearly 2.5-feet-deep water-logged premises on his way back after purchasing medicines, he said. The mysterious death of a man who was detained by police on suspicion of being a cow smuggler in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district last week has prompted the administration to order a magisterial probe, officials said today. Javid Ahmad Malik, a resident of Bharat village, was detained by officials of the Chatroo police station on Friday and died the same day. While police claimed Malik fell into a deep gorge when he tried to escape from custody, his family has alleged that he was beaten to death. An FIR was registered against the police officials for negligence and a departmental inquiry has started, officials said. The station house office of the Chatroo police has been transferred and two others placed under suspension, while the dismissal of the services of a Volunteer Home Guard (VHG) has been recommended, they said. An 80-year-old farmer and his wife were shot at by their grandson at Jatnagla village here over a property dispute, police said today. The accused, Monu, had last night visited his grandparents to talk about his father's share in the family property, SHO Anil Kapwarvan said. An argument ensued between the two sides and Monu, in a fit of rage, fired at the elderly couple, he said. The accused fled the spot after the incident, police said.
