Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife's car meets with accident, cop assaults her

Test cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Reeva was allegedly assaulted today by a police constable following a minor accident involving her car in Gujarat's Jamnagar city, police said. The police have detained constable Sajay Ahir in connection with the incident. The alleged incident occurred at Saru Section road in Jamnagar when Reeva Jadeja's car allegedly hit the motorcycle of the constable who attacked her, said Jamnagar district Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sejul. "The policeman physically assaulted Reeva Jadeja after her car hit his motorbike. We are providing all possible help to her and will take strict action against the policeman," he said. A man claiming to have witnessed the incident said the policeman thrashed Reeva Jadeja "brutally". "The policeman mercilessly thrashed Reeva and even pulled her hair during an altercation. 3 brothers get life in jail for killing man

A special Scheduled Cast and Scheduled Tribe court in Bundi today sentenced three brothers to life imprisonment for murdering a 33-year-old man in Talera town of Bundi district. It also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on each of the three convicts to compensate the deceased's wife. Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Talera town in Bundi district, was murdered on April 24, 2016 by Ashok Jinger (34), Arun Jinger (24) and Hempal Jinger (21) hours after a scuffle that erupted when Singh's car hit a bench outside the tea stall of three convicts' father. A case under section 147 (rioting), 148 (Rioting being armed with deadly weapon) and 302 (murder) of IPC was lodged in this connection against the three brothers at the Talera police station. Special judge Koshal Singh today sentenced the trio to life imprisonment, special public prosecutor (SPP) Mahendra Sharma said.

Two arrested for duping car sellers, five cars recovered

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of buying their vehicles, a senior police official said today. "The two would get in touch with those intending to sell their cars through web portals. Once a deal was struck, they would show the seller a fake message of an online money transfer and then drive away with the car," said an official. Police zeroed in on the two accused, identified as Ayaaz Sayyed and his aide Arif, after a victim, Khalid Sheikh, filed a complaint last month with the Bandra Kurla Complex police station. They were arrested yesterday after the Internet Protocol of their computer was traced, an official said, adding that five cars were recovered from their possession. Investigations have revealed that the two have cases of a similar nature at eight police stations, said officials. A case has been registered against them for cheating and criminal breach of trust, he said.

Two held with fake currency notes in Gujarat

Police from the Special Operations Group today arrested two persons with fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 4.80 lakh. The two, identified as Junaid Memon and Virat Raval, both from Palanpur in Banaskantha district, were arrested near Geeta Mandir bus station, official said. They have claimed that they printed the notes using colour printers and did so because they had accumulated debts, said officials. Further investigations are underway, an official said.

Revenue official arrested on graft charges

A revenue official was arrested red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 in Punjab's Sangrur district, police said today. The arrest was made by the Punjab vigilance bureau after receiving a complaint against the official identified as Jaspal Singh. The complainant told the bureau that Singh had demanded Rs 15,000 to change the ownership of a land. After verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot while accepting the bribe, the police said. A case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused at Patiala police station and further investigations were under progress, they said.

3 arrested in Rajasthan for evading Rs 58 crore tax

A tax consultant and two businessmen have been arrested for allegedly evading Rs 58 crore tax through 87 companies that existed only on paper, an official of the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) said today. The regional unit of DGGI here made the arrests under section 132 (1) of the CGST Act after preliminary investigation. The accused were produced in a court today which remanded in judicial custody till June 2, the official said. The accused had registered companies in the name of their employees, neighbours and even people who died years ago, he said. According to the DGGI, 17 teams raided 21 business and residential premises in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan from where Jaipur-based tax consultant Pankaj Khandelwal and two Uttar Pradesh-based businessmen Sandeep Kumar Agarwal and Shriram Kumar Singh were arrested. Pradyuman murder case: Juvenile to be tried as adult, says court

A Child Sessions Court in Gurugram on Monday ruled that the juvenile accused in a seven-year-old Pradyuman murder case at Ryan International School in the city should be tried as an adult.The lawyer representing the deceased student's family, Sushil Tekriwal told ANI, "The Child Sessions Court upheld judgment by the Juvenile Justice Board that the juvenile be tried as an adult. He can be subjected to stringent and strict punishment if he's going to get convicted. We welcome it."The accused, a Class XI student, was arrested by the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) last year on the charges of killing Pradyuman Thakur, a Class II student of Gurugram's Ryan International School.Pradyuman was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit inside the school premises on September 8, 2017.The Juvenile Justice Board had earlier on December 20 ruled that the 16-year-old accused will be tried as an adult.

Police officer arrested for sexually harassing minor girl

A police officer was arrested here today for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl, his relative. The man, a Sub-Inspector in neighbouring Kottayam district, was booked on the basis of a complaint by the girls parents last month, they said. The officer, charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), approached the Court seeking anticipatory bail but it was rejected, police said. In her complaint, the girl alleged that the officer grabbed her wrist without her permission when she was in the elevator of a building here on Monday. Police said the officer is a relative of the girl.

2 drown in Burari swimming pool; owner, caretaker held

Two men drowned in a swimming pool in Burari that was being operated without licence, following which the facility's owner and its caretaker were arrested, the police said today. The incident happened yesterday around 8.10 PM when Amit (24) and Neeraj (23) had gone to the swimming pool near Joseph & Mary Public School at PS Burari around 8.10PM, they said. The police said they received the information that the men had consumed liquor and had been taken to a hospital. The two were declared brought dead at the hospital, the police said. Their bodies were sent to the Subzi Mandi mortuary for post-mortem. Amit used to work as an water purifier mechanic while Neeraj was a student of School of Open Learning. ASI, head constable held for demanding bribe

An assistant sub-inspector and a head constable were arrested today for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a man for not taking action on a complaint filed against him by his wife, police said. The complainant, who works in an insurance company, had approached the Vigilance Branch of Delhi Police with a complaint that ASI Jauhari Singh, posted at the Bara Hindu Rao police station in north district, had already taken Rs 6,000 from him and was demanding Rs 4,000 more for not taking action on the complaint of his wife, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) Omvir Singh Bishnoi said. Accordingly, a team was constituted by the Vigilance Branch. The complainant, along with police personnel in civvies, arrived at the police station today and met Singh, who directed him to pay the Rs 4,000 to Head Constable Pardeep. The head constable received the money from the complainant. Subsequently, the raiding team nabbed the accused police personnel.

PNB fraud: ED attaches over Rs 171-cr assets of Nirav Modi

In fresh action against Nirav Modi, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth over Rs 171 crore "beneficially owned" by the absconding diamantaire in connection with its money laundering probe in the over USD 2 billion PNB fraud case, the agency said today. The central probe agency here said it issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), attaching four commercial premises -- with the market value of Rs 72.87 crore -- in Mumbai and Surat, 106 bank accounts holding Rs 55.12 crore of deposits, 15 demat accounts containing Rs 35.86 crore, and 11 cars valued Rs 4.01 crore. "The worth of these assets beneficially owned by Nirav Modi is about Rs 171.26 crore (market value)," the ED said in a statement. The agency had earlier attached 21 assets - worth Rs 523.72 crore - of Modi in this case, the statement said. The agency had last week seized over 34,000 pieces of jewellery worth Rs 85 crore from the Gitanjali Group, owned by Nirav Modi's ..

Three arrested for burgling CP showrooms

Three men have been arrested for carrying out burglaries late at night in branded showrooms in Connaught Place, the police said today. The three, identified as Raju Paneer Silvam (57), Sanjeev Kumar alias Raza (48) and Nandu Rawat (32), had committed four burglaries over 10 days, the police added. They were arrested when they were in the downtown shopping area for another burglary, they said. On May 4, a man identified as Shankar lodged a complaint to say that when he and his staff reached their frozen meat shop, they found it had been broken into. A sum of Rs 60,000, some documents and quantities of meat along with two aluminum trays were missing, he said. In another incident reported on May 7, the store manager of a branded showroom told the police that Rs 3.23 lakh in cash, 40-45 pairs of jeans, 50 shirts, 45-50 pairs of trousers and some accessories were missing from the shop. Dera chief close aide declared proclaimed offender

A court here today declared fugitive Dera Sacha Sauda spokesperson Aditya Insan, a close aide of jailed sect head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, as a proclaimed offender (PO). "Aditya Insan has been declared PO by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rohit Vats," Panchkula Police Commissioner A S Chawla said. The Panchkula police had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh on information leading to the arrest of Aditya Insan. Aditya Insan has gone into isolation which made it difficult to arrest him, Chawla said. He said the police will soon initiate proceedings to declare at least 12 dera supporters as proclaimed offender. In August last year, a special CBI court sentenced Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years in prison for raping two women in 2002. The Dera head is lodged in a jail in Rohtak. After his conviction, dera followers indulged in violence at Panchkula and Sirsa leaving 41 dead and scores injured.

In dry Bihar,RPF jawan booked for getting drunk and sodomize

A case was registered here today against a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan who has been accused of sodomy, in an inebriated condition, by an 18-year-old youth, police said. The FIR against Samir Kumar Jha, who is absconding, was registered at the RPF outpost at Banmakhi railway station in Purnea, Inspector in-charge of the outpost Sanjay Kumar said. He said the case was registered after the complaint lodged by the victim was forwarded to them by the railway authorities. The complainant, who said he worked as a labourer and was 18 years of age, had written to the Station Manager of Purnea Court station alleging that Jha had taken him to his residence on Friday where he got drunk and indulged in unnatural sexual act with him, the RPF Inspector said. Woman kills husband with iron rod

A man was brutally killed by his wife for physically assaulting her in their house located in Lal Bagh colony here, police said today. Surinder Kumar (35), a migrant labourer, was killed by his wife Janaki (30) with an iron rod early morning today, they said. The woman tried to escape the spot after committing the crime but some neighbours foiled her attempt, the police said, adding she was arrested later. Janaki told the police that Surinder would often beat her in inebriated condition. She attacked her husband on his head and face repeatedly till he died, the police said, adding that other members of the family were sleeping in a verandah at that time. Shiv Lal, the father of the victim, told the police that the couple were labourers and used to work on construction sites. They were married for the last 13 years and had three children.
