Man accuses MLA Sangeet Som of duping him of Rs 53 lakh
A man here has alleged that BJP MLA Sangeet Som has duped him of Rs 53 lakh, a charge the lawmaker has denied, saying "it was being done under a conspiracy by some local SP leaders". Rahul Singh, a resident of Rajpur Momin, in a complaint to the additional director general of police (Meerut Zone) alleged that he had given the money to Som for a partnership in a brick-kiln. However, official documentation for the transaction and partnership was not completed by Som and thus, he "duped me of Rs 53 lakh", Singh alleged yesterday. The complainant claimed that he had arranged the money by selling his buffaloes and taking a bank loan by mortgaging his farm land. If action is not taken in a day or two, Singh said his family would petition Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Bharat Bandh violence: Dalit leader surrenders, send to JC
Bhim Sena district chief Upkar Bavra, wanted in a case of violence during the April 2 country-wide bandh, has surrendered in a court here and has been sent to judicial custody. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ankur sharma remanded Bavra today in judicial custody up to April 26, said public prosecutor Yogesh Sagar. Meanwhile, another court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ritu Nagar has refused to grant bail to BSP district president Kamal Gautam who had been arrested for allegedly inciting the violence during the bandh. Gautam was denied bail yesterday. Dalit groups had called for a Bharat Bandh across the country on April 2 in protest against a recent Supreme Court order which they claimed had diluted the SC/ST Act (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala today alleged that lock-ups in Kerala have become "killing fields" under CPI(M) rule and sought a judicial probe into the death of a 26-year-old man in police custody in Varappuzha near here. Chennithala also alleged that Pinarayi Vijayan-led government was 'hesitant' to take action against the Sub-Inspector of Varappuzha police station despite widespread condemnation from various quarters against 'police brutality' towards Sreejith and his brother. "Lock-ups in Kerala have become killing fields. Sreejith and his brother were subjected to brutal torture in police custody," Chennithala told reporters after meeting Sreejith's family in Varappuzha. Indian man jailed in Dubai for e-mailing porn clips to 13-yr-old girl
An Indian man has been jailed for three months by a Dubai court for sending email videos of pornographic content to his friend's 13-year-old daughter and molesting her during home visits. The teenage girl's mother, also from India, was checking out on her email when she realised that her daughter had received a number of e-mails containing porn clips in August 2017. When the mother confronted her daughter, she told her that the 27-year-old family friend had been constantly touching her indecently during visits and had emailed her indecent clips, the Gulf News reported. In February, the Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the Indian defendant for three months for molesting the teenager and sending her porn clips to her email account. The accused had appealed his primary judgement and asked the Appeal Court to acquit him. But he lost his appeal yesterday and was sentenced to three months in jail, the report said.
Unnao gangrape case: FIR filed against BJP MLA, no decision on arrest
The police in Uttar Pradesh today registered an FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in Unnao, hours after the government said it would hand the probe over to the CBI. Till the premier investigating agency takes over, the local police would continue with the probe, but a decision on whether the accused MLA from the ruling party would be arrested would be taken by the CBI, Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said. A letter for handing the probe over to the CBI for maintaining total transparency in the case would be sent to the home department today, he told reporters here. Three persons, including a woman, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in leaking the CBSE Class 10 mathematics paper in connivance with a teacher arrested earlier from Himachal Pradesh, Delhi Police said today. Last week, Rakesh Kumar, Amit Sharma and Ashok Kumar, all employees of DAV Centenary Public School in Una town, were arrested by the crime branch. The three men were arrested in connection with the economics paper leak case. Today, the police said two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the leak of the mathematics paper. The woman, from Ferozepur in Punjab, was allegedly sent a copy of the leaked paper by Rakesh Kumar, the police said. More details about the three arrests were awaited. Bruce Rowley was arrested last week in Ansonia, after the police said he confessed to carrying out a robbery and then drove to the 27-year-old musician's mansion to toss the money over, according to a police report obtained by TMZ read. The Jammu Bar Association on Thursday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)-led inquiry into the Kathua rape case, contending that the probe by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Crime Branch was not fair."We have always maintained that the guilty should be punished and the fair probe should be carried out, that is why we want the case to be handed over to CBI. Hry govt orders probe into illegal sale of land to pvt builders
The Haryana government has ordered a probe into alleged illegal sale of 46 acres of panchayat land in two villages here to private builders. The state government ordered the probe based on a complaint received by the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell, officials said. The alleged scam came to the notice of additional principle secretary to the chief minister Rakesh Gupta and OSD to the chief minister Bhupenswar Dayal during scrutiny of complaints on Tuesday, they said. Indian engineer in US pleads guilty to raising money for top al-Qaida leader
A 38-year-old Indian engineer in the US state of Ohio, accused of funding a top al-Qaida leader, has pleaded guilty to concealment of financing of terrorism. Ibrahim Zubair Mohammad, second of the two brothers, is accused of sending money to Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen. Al-Awlaki was later designated a terrorist and killed by a US drone in 2011. Mohammad, is to receive an agreed-upon prison sentence of 60 months, although he would receive credit for the 30 months he already has spent in the Lucas County jail awaiting trial, The Blade newspaper reported yesterday.
