A 12-year-old girl has alleged that a neighbour raped her while she was alone at her house in Baijnath town, police said today. The minor in her complaint said that while she was sleeping alone in her home the accused took her and raped her, they said. The girl reported that one person identified as Dharmu of the same village raped her about five-six days back, SSP, Kangra, Santosh Patial said. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act, Patial said. No arrest has been made so far, he said, adding the Deputy SP and the SHO have been directed to conduct investigation on priority basis.
Sangeeta Sengar, the wife of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the main accused in the Unnao gangrape case, was hospitalised after she became unconscious this evening. A family member of the MLA said, "After meeting the UP DGP, Sangeeta Sengar was interacting with media persons when she became unconscious. She was taken to a hostpital and is undergoing treatment." A local singer was shot dead at a village in Pakistan's southern Sindh province after she failed to stand up while singing, police said. Tariq Jatoi kept badgering Samina Samoon to stand up while singing but when she could not get up due to her pregnancy he shot her dead, police said. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but she succumbed to her injuries, it added. The police has arrested the accused and two of his accomplices for shooting the singer. The police said the singer's husband filed a double murder report because of the unborn child.

A case was registered against an Army officer for allegedly assaulting his wife, police said today. The woman in her complaint to the police alleged that she was assaulted by the Lt Colonel after returning from a party on the night of April 4, they said. A case was registered at Delhi Cantt Police Station on April 8 and investigation is on. No arrest has been made so far, the police said. The woman alleged in her complaint about "violent nature" of the accused. "Immediately after wedding I discovered his violent nature against certain issuse. I have been subjected to continuous verbal, mental and physical assault," she said. The couple got married in November 2004 and has two daughters, aged 11 and eight. A 50-year-old college professor was found dead at her flat in suburban Andheri today, police said. The deceased, identified as Manisha Bhave, was a divorcee and was staying alone for the past 12 years, an official said. Bhave used to teach at a suburban college. The incident came to light after Bhave's neighbours called up the police complaining about a foul smell emanating from her flat, he said. A police team that reached the spot found the door of the flat locked form inside, following which they broke open the door, the official said, adding that the woman was found lying dead inside the house. The body has been sent for postmortem. Prima facie it appears that Bhave died of a heart attack, said Andheri police station senior inspector Pandit Thorat. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are awaiting the postmortem report, Thorat added.

Two brothers were shot dead while four others were injured after a clash broke out within a family over cattles in Paanigaon village, police said today. The deceased were identified as Rajveer (27) and Kanhaiya (25), the police said, adding the injured - Shibbo, Manmoan, Mohan and Dinesh -- were rushed to district hospital. The Delhi Assembly Speaker told the Delhi High Court today that Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash has no right under the law to challenge the enquiries conducted by House committees and the bureaucrat has levelled reckless, unfounded, mala fide and defamatory allegations on the members of the panels. Prakash has challenged the privilege committee notice directing him to appear before it for skipping a meeting on February 20, which was scheduled a day after he was allegedly assaulted by two AAP MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal, both of whom are now out on bail. The Speaker, the Question and Reference committee and the privilege committee, in a joint affidavit, contended that the chief secretary's plea was not maintainable saying that notice was issued to him by the panel in accordance with law and powers vested with the committee. Four suspected autolifters hailing from Manipur have been arrested, and 13 high-end cars and SUVs, including a BMW, was recovered from Delhi and Imphal, the police said here today. The gang used to tamper with the chassis number of the stolen vehicles and then sell the cars by getting them re-registered from different district transport offices in Manipur, DCP(South) Romil Baaniya said.
