Two Shiv Sena men shot dead: NCP MLA among four held

Ahmednagar Police today arrested four people, including NCP MLA Sangram Jagtap and a suspected shooter, in connection with the killing of a local Shiv Sena leader and a party supporter yesterday, police said. Two motorcycle-borne assailants had last evening shot dead Sanjay Kotkar (35) and Vasant Thube (40) in Shahunagar area of Kedgaon, hours after the result of a civic bypoll in the area was announced. "We have arrested NCP MLA Sangram Jagtap (33), Balasaheb Kotkar (59), Sandeep Gunjal (28), and Bhanudas Kotkar (44) for the murder of two local Sena leaders," said an officer. Of the four accused, Gunjal, who police suspect is a shooter, had surrendered himself in Parner police station with the weapon allegedly used in the crime, he said. Gujnal told the police that he committed the crime out of old rivalry and there is no political link to the killings, the officer said. All the accused were today produced before local court, which sent them to police custody till April

Labourer beaten to death for allegedly raping minor girl

A 43-year-old labourer was beaten to death with sticks by irate villagers for allegedly raping a minor girl in Nizamabad district of Telangana, the police said today. Sayanna entered the girl's house in Donkeshwar village when she was alone last evening. He allegedly raped her and fled, they said. The girl narrated the incident to her mother. Later, the family and the villagers caught hold of Sayanna and beat him up with sticks injuring him, an official told PTI. The villagers then took him to a nearby hospital, where he died last night, the official said. Two cases were registered under relevant sections of the IPC in connection with the sexual assault on the minor girl and the killing of the man.

Criminal carrying Rs 25,000 bounty arrested in UP

A criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head was arrested from Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night, police said.Surendra was arrested after being injured in an encounter with police in the district, Superintendent of Police (SP) P.K. Tiwari said.He has been admitted to a nearby hospital, the official said.Surendra alias Tar Babu has been accused of killing an Amit Yadav in Sikandrabad district on October 3 last year.He had come to Sikandrabad from Tundla to kill plaintiff Rajnish in Amit Yadav's murder case.One bike, a country-made gun, and live cartridges were recovered from his possession, the official said.The police have been searching for his accomplice in the nearby forest area.

Leopardess beaten to death by villagers in Rajasthan

A year-and-a-half-old leopardess was killed by angry villagers after it attacked and injured a man in Rajasthan's Nilka village, a police official said today. Mahesh Kumar Bunkar (30), who was fetching water outside his residence, was attacked and injured by the leopardess following which irate villagers attacked the animal with stones leading to its death, SHO, Shahpura police station, Virendra Singh Rathore said. Rathore said the victim sustained grievous injuries and was later referred to a hospital in Jaipur. The post-mortem report revealed that the animal was in search of food from last five-six days and died of injury resulting from stone-pelting, Jaipur North Deputy Forest Conservator Yogendra Singh Kalvi said. A case was registered against unidentified men under Wild Life Conservation Act, Kalvi added.

Man held for killing girlfriend in UP

A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 21-year-old girlfriend in Khudda village here, police said today. Ruksana went missing on March 30 and police suspected her boyfriend Naushad's role in her disappearance, Chhapar police station SHO Adesh Tyagi said. Naushad, whois already married, was yesterday arrested, he said. On questioning, Naushad (around 26) confessed to the crime and said that Rukshana was putting pressure on him to marry her, Tyagi said. Naushad told police that he strangulated her and dumped her body in a sugarcane field. The body has been recovered from the spot, the SHO said.

Woman attempts to kill self outside Yogi's residence

A woman and her family tried to commit suicide in front of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in Lucknow on Sunday.The woman and her family alleged that she was raped by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Unnao, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, and his fellow accomplices but no action was taken.Speaking about her ordeal, the victim said that she and her family were threatened after they had filed an FIR. The woman demanded action be taken at the earliest."I was raped. I have been going from pillar to post for one year but no one listened to me. I want all of them arrested otherwise I will kill myself. I had even gone to the CM with no result. When we lodged FIR we were threatened," the victim told ANI.As of now, a probe has been ordered and the case has been transferred to Lucknow."Case transferred to Lucknow. Charge sheet in Kathua rape and murder case to be filed next week: Police

The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir police is likely to submit the charge sheet before the high court in the rape and murder case of a minor girl in Kathua district next week, a senior police officer said today. The incident had sparked an outrage across the state. "The over two-and-a-half-month long investigation is almost complete and we are likely to file the charge sheet in the court, which is monitoring the case, next week," the officer told PTI. Body of eight-year-old girl from the Bakherwal community was recovered from Rassana forest on January 17, a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the forest area. On January 23, the government handed over the case to the crime branch of state police which formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and arrested eight persons, including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a head constable, in connection with the case. Proclaimed offender nabbed

A proclaimed offender, evading arrest since May 2016 in a criminal case registered against him, has been apprehended, the police said today. Identified as Surjit alias Sonu, a resident of village Rehana Jattan, the proclaimed offender was arrested while waiting at his village bus stand, said Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Sikander Singh said. The police nabbed him on a tip off, said Singh, adding that he was declared soon after the registration of the case against him.

1 killed, 1 injured as car of BJP MLA's son collides with bike

One police personnel lost his life and one was injured after a motorbike they were travelling on was hit by a car on April 7.The car was allegedly being driven by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Alexander Laloo Hek's son.The two-wheeler was ridden by Probin D. Sangma (38), a prison guard with pillion rider Probat R Marak from 1st MLP battalion.While Probin D. UP: Minor booked for 'raping' schoolmate

A case has been registered against a minor boy for allegedly raping his schoolmate in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj.The victim alleged that she was repeatedly raped in the past one year by the accused."The girl who is a student of Class 12 at Kannuaj's Bitti Devi Inter College had a friendship with the boy who she has alleged of raping her for a year. Both of them are minor. Case registered and an investigation is underway, " Keshav Chandra Goswami, Kannauj Additional Superintendent of Police told ANI.As of now, the victim has been sent for a medical test.

Man arrested for duping people by promising jobs in police dept

A notorious criminal was arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing them jobs in police department, an official said today. Rakesh Kumar alias "IG", a resident of Badyal Brahmana village, was arrested from R S Pura sector yesterday after a massive hunt, he said, adding that the accused was booked under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and several provisions of the Arms Act. Narinder Kumar along with others recently lodged a complaint in a local police station, alleging that Rakesh had extorted a huge amount of money from them on the pretext of providing jobs in police department. "Rakesh is a notorious criminal as six cases are already registered against him at R S Pura police station since 2002," the official said.

Militant hideout busted in Rajouri, assault rifles seized

Security forces today busted a terrorist hideout in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered two AK assault rifles along with some ammunition, a senior police officer said. The hideout was unearthed during an ongoing search operation in some villages including Gadyog in Budhal area, Senior Superintendent of Police (Rajouri), Yougal Manhas, said. Besides the two AK rifles, two magazines and 60 rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the hideout which was believed to be set up by terrorists when they were active in the area over a decade back, he said. Manhas said no one was arrested in connection with the recovery during the operation which was still continuing.

Plea in HC claims illegal closure of graft cases against ex-AIIMS officials

A plea has been moved in the Delhi High Court alleging that the Union Health Ministry illegally closed graft cases and connected disciplinary proceedings against some former senior officials of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) without the approval of the competent authority -- the prime minister. The application, by an NGO in its main petition for expeditious and objective investigation into alleged corruption cases in AIIMS during the years 2012-14 involving senior bureaucrats, is expected to be heard tomorrow by a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar. The NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), has claimed that all the corruptions cases, some in relation to over Rs 6,000 crore worth infrastructure development in the institute, against the bureaucrats were illegally closed without following the due procedure and without approval of the competent disciplinary authority -- the prime minister as he is in-charge of the ...

Husband throws acid on RPF constable in UP

An RPF constable was seriously injured when her husband allegedly threw acid on her for giving birth to a girl child and not fulfilling dowry demands in Chandaura village here, police said today. Komal, who was posted at Delhi, was living with her parents here after a dispute with her husband Kapil Kumar, who works in a private firm in the national capital, Circle Officer SKS Pratap said. Yesterday, Kumar went to her parents house to meet her. But after an argument threw acid on her and escaped, he said. Komal was rushed to a hospital with burn injuries, Pratap said. Her condition is stated to be serious. The woman's family alleged that Komal's husband and in-laws had been harassing her for dowry since their marriage in 2013. They were also unhappy that she gave birth to a girl child in 2016, the officer added. On the basis of their complaint, a case has been registered and police have launched a manhunt to nab her husband who is absconding, the police officer said.

Minor raped, then gang-raped in Chhattisgarh

A minor was first raped by her father's friend and then gang-raped by three other men on the same day in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh almost a month ago, police said.All the accused were arrested within eight hours after an FIR was registered on Friday, a police official said.According to the police, the incident that took place on March 12 came to light after the minor girl suffered from an infection.The victim's father demanded capital punishment for all the accused persons.

A 48-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants near his house in Shamli district here, police said today. Rakesh, who works in a hospital in Delhi, was shot last night when he was returning home from work, Circle Officer Ashok Kumar said. The incident took place close to Rakesh's house, he said. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, Kumar said. Dalit youth beaten to death in UP

A 22-year-old Dalit man was beaten to death allegedly by five persons mob suspecting of stealing some goods in Baghra village here, police said today. Ankit was yesterday beaten to death by Rampal, Lokesh, Ajay, Amit and Haseen. The five accused suspected Ankit, a labourer, of stealing goods, Superintendent of Police (rural) Ajay Sahdev said. The man was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer said. On the basis of a complaint by the labourer's mother, a case was registered against the five men under relevant sections of IPC and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, he said. Following which, the five men were arrested, who during interrogation confessed to the crime and told police that they suspected Ankit was stealing from them, the SP said. Investigation is underway in the matter, the officer added.
