Five men were arrested for allegedly carrying out a dacoity of Rs 18 lakh at a stationary shop after gagging one of the employees and holding the other at gunpoint in north Delhi's Kotwali area, police said today. On April 3, an incident of armed dacoity took place at a stationary shop located on the first floor in the Old Lajpat Rai Market, Chandni Chowk. There were two employees present at the shop at the time of incident. They were carrying Rs 18 lakh with them, they said. They were waiting in the office for the directions of the owner in the evening, when a man entered the shop with a bag in his hand, police said. When the employees questioned him, two more men came there with bags in their hands and closed the gate, they said. They took out pistols from the bags and allegedly threatened the two employees to keep quiet. Following the request of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Gauhati High Court will set up Fast Track Courts in each district of the state for day to day trial of cases of rape and murder of children and women, a high court statement said here. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in a letter on March 26, had urged the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court to consider setting up of fast track courts in the wake of the rape and murder of a minor girl in Nagaon district, and similar cases in the state. An Administrative Committee comprising the chief justice and three senior-most judges today held a meeting and resolved to establish one exclusive Fast Track Court to try cases of rape and murder of women and children in each district of Assam, the statement said. The change of land use (CLU) exemption granted to several buildings including a cricket stadium and a cinema hall inside the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda complex have been withdrawn by the Haryana government, the Punjab and Haryana High Court was informed today. During a resumed hearing on a petition, Haryana Advocate General B R Mahajan said the CLU exemption given to 11 properties was withdrawn while two applications which the Dera had given seeking CLU permission were also rejected. The Navi Mumbai police have engaged a private agency to locate the remains of assistant police inspector Ashwini Bidre-Gore, believed to have been dumped in the Bhayandar creek by the accused, also a police officer, an official said today. The Navi Mumbai crime branch has engaged private oceanographers to survey the Versova creek, said the official who is part of the probe to trace the remains of Bidre-Gore. The private agency will advise police on whether to continue their search for the remains. Investigators suspect that the accused, identified as police inspector Abhay Kurundkar, allegedly killed Bidre-Gore in his flat and dumped her body parts in the water body to destroy evidence. Four men, allegedly involved in battering an elderly man to death with baseball bats in outer Delhi's Ranhola last December and on the run since then, have been arrested, the police said today. The four, identified as Sandeep Sehrawat alias Kotilya, Satish alias Deepak, Sanjeev alias Neeru, all 34, and Sonu alias Chiranji Lal, 22, were nabbed by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bhisham Singh. The four were arrested from a DDA Park in Sector-13 of Dwarka following a tarp laid down for them on March 28 on a tip, the DCP said. The Press Council of India has sought a report from the Arunachal Pradesh government over reported summoning of the editor and publisher of an English daily regarding a complaint filed by a BJP leader. A statement issued by the PCI said a case was registered against the newspaper on the direction of metropolitan magistrate, Itanagar, following the complaint filed by the BJP state general secretary. The release, however, failed to specify the reason for filling the case or name the complainant. Five women, including a five-year-old girl, were killed and six others injured when a crane rammed into a pick-up van they were supposed to travel in, at Seraikela-Kharswan district today, police said. The incident happened at Khairboni village under the jurisdiction of Rajnagar police station, the police said. The passengers were boarding the pick-up van on Tata-Chaibasa road when the crane rammed into it, a police officer said, adding that the women and the child died after the van overturned under the impact of the collision. The six injured were taken to a nearby health centre initially, the officer said. Later, the doctors there referred four seriously injured passengers to M G M Hospital in Jamshedpur, he added. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered a case against Principal Commissioner of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) JP Aggarwal on an alleged bribery case.Along with Aggarwal, three private persons Sunil Gupta, Anil Gupta and JP Sharma are also allegedly involved in the case.A case has been registered under relevant sections of 120-B of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 7, 12 and 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against all of them.During the investigation, JP Aggarwal, Sunil Gupta and Anil Gupta were apprehended while transacting bribe amount of Rs. 4 lakhs for showing an undue favour by the Principal Commissioner of DDA in the matter of allotment of flat.JP Sharma was also apprehended subsequently in the matter.Searches are being conducted today at the residential and official premises of all the accused.The investigation is underway.

Yet another prosecution witness in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh alleged fake encounter case turned hostile today, taking the number of such witnesses to 48. Majid Mohammed, a hotel owner from Udaipur in Rajasthan, turned hostile during his deposition by the CBI special judge S J Sharma today. In his statement to the CBI, Majid had said that Inspector Adbul Rehman of Udaipur police, one of the accused in the encounter case, had told him that Shaikh was involved in the murder of his (Majid's) brother. His brother, Hamid Lala, who had several criminal cases registered against him, had been murdered by some criminals and inspector Rehman probed the murder, Majid had told the CBI. A 50-year-old man died today after allegedly being hit by mortar splinters during practice firing by the Army in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police officer said. Rattan Singh, a resident of Nonial, was hit by splinters during practice firing by army at Gadhi in Nowshera area of the district this evening, the officer said. The body of the deceased was removed from the scene and was being handed over to his family for last rites after legal formalities, the official said.Further details are awaited, he said.
