Justice J B Pardiwala, on March 21, granted pre-arrest bail to 15 members of the Rajput community, taking into consideration the SC verdict which came a day earlier. An FIR under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against 15 people, including women, at Jadar police station in Sabarkantha district in January. They allegedly thrashed a Dalit man and hurled casteist abuse at him over a petty issue at Moti Vadol village in the district, as per the FIR. Three brothers along with another person have been arrested for killing their 70-year-old grandaunt in a village here, police said. "Three brothers and a person, all residents of Nari Semari village, were arrested and a .315 bore pistol used in the murder and a live cartridge were seized," Superintendent of Police (SP), Rural, Aditya Kumar Shukla said. The woman was shot dead on March 9 night and her brother Tahku Lal had lodged a complaint against five people, but all of them named by the complainant were not the assailants, he said. The US today announced charges against nine Iranians for their massive hacking into over 300 universities worldwide and the theft of precious academic data and intellectual property. The Justice Department indictment alleges that the defendants worked on behalf of the Iranian government, specifically the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). They hacked the computer systems of nearly 320 universities in 22 countries, 144 are American universities, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told reporters at a news conference here. "The defendants stole research that cost those universities approximately USD 3.4 billion to procure and maintain. That stolen information was used by the Revolutionary Guard or sold for profit in Iran," he said. The defendants worked for an organisation known as the Mabna Institute, which two of the defendants founded for the stated purpose of helping Iranian universities access scientific research. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested an Income Tax officer here while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh for the settlement of a tax claim. The officer (name not disclosed), attached to Ward 3 (1), had allegedly demanded the bribe to settle a tax liability claim dating back to the assessment year 2010-11. When the assessee approached the CBI, the agency laid a trap and arrested the officer red-handed, sources said. Simultaneous searches were conducted at the officer's office and houses at Aurangabad and Nashik, and assets disproportionate his known sources of income were found, they added. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.
The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday seized 200 pieces of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of Rs. 2000 denomination from the state's Malda district and arrested two persons in this connection, a senior official said.
Six people, including three children and a woman, were killed and 17 injured after an explosion in an illegal firecracker unit in Bihar's Nalanda district, a senior official said today. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the incident and issued instructions for providing adequate medical assistance to the injured, an official release said. The police here have registered a case on a court's order against a man for allegedly raping his wife. The case was registered yesterday on the court's order. The woman has alleged that she was raped by her husband on October 20, 2017, police said. The woman alleged that despite her lodging a complaint and giving a copy of the same to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) no action was taken. The case was registered only after the court's intervention, she said. The police said that the matter was being investigated.
The CBI today arrested Tamil Nadu's Advocate General Arun Goyal in an alleged bribery case, official said today. The agency also arrested Goyal's Senior Accounts Officer Gajendran in connection with the case, they said. It is alleged that Goyal had demanded Rs 5 lakh from PWD officer Shivalingam to post him as divisional accountant, they said. Shivalingam, along with middleman L Raja, allegedly handed over the bribe amount to Gajendran. A CBI team recovered a part of the bribe amount from Gajendran during a search, they said. During questioning, Gajendran told the CBI that he gave the remaining amount to Goyal, who was also taken into custody, they said. The officials said Shivalingam and Raja were also arrested in the case.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested eight Bangladeshi nationals for living in the country without valid documents, officials said. Acting on a tip-off, the Nagpada unit of the ATS raided places in suburban Malwani and Kandivali and arrested these persons last night. Officials said that the eight, who were employed at an electronics assembling shop here run by a resident of 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, had confessed that they were Bangladeshi nationals. "They are residents of Jessore district in Bangladesh. Two had even managed to procure PAN cards. They have been arrested under relevant sections of the Passport Rules and Foreigners Act. Further investigations are underway," the official said.
A 50-year-old bus conductor was arrested here today on the charge of sexually harassing a girl student in a moving state-run Road Transport Corporation bus here in the city, police said. The girl sent a message to police over phone, stating that the conductor, identified as Srinivas Guptha,had sexually harassed her while she was going to college in the bus and was also misbehaving with ladies, a police press release said. She also said that the conductor was in the habit of doing such things daily. Following the complaint, personnel of 'SHE Teams' (formedto curb eve teasing and harassment of women) traced the conductor and arrested him after booking him under relevant IPC sections, police said.

Over one kg gold "concealed" under a seat in an aircraft was today seized at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here and one person arrested in this connection, customs officials said. Customs Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), intercepted a passenger, who arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight. After checking his baggage and body with metal detectors, the officers found no contraband goods in his possession. The officers found that the passenger was a native of western Uttar Pradesh and a frequent traveller from Gulf countries to different parts of India, a customs release said. Based on his travel activities, the officers got a suspicion that the passenger might be involved in illegal activities and started enquiring about his purpose of visits from Gulf countries to Hyderabad and to other airports in the country. An 18-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker was today sentenced to life imprisonment for placing a bomb on a London underground train which partially exploded, injuring 51 people last year. Ahmed Hassan was directed to serve a minimum of 34 years behind bars before being considered for parole at the end of a murder trial at the Old Bailey court in London. The court was told that Hassan blamed the UK for his father's death in Iraq and was "disappointed" when the bomb only partly detonated in a huge fireball. Police in Ankleshwar town of Gujarat have arrested a 40-year-old woman and her daughter on the suspicion that they could be involved in the abduction of children from various parts of the state. Rashida Patel and her daughter Mohsina (19) were arrested in a fresh case after the discovery of skeletal remains of Vikki Devipujak (7) from the backyard of their house in Ankleshwar town in Bharuch district yesterday. The boy had gone missing from his house in Gurudwara area of the town in March 2016. Inspector J G Amin of Ankleshwar police said the remains have been sent to a forensic laboratory to ascertain the cause of death.
