The Central government has appointed Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta as the Special Public Prosecutor for cases related to the 2G scam.In an official notification dated February 16, the Centre appointed Additional Solicitor General Mehta as the special public prosecutor conducing appeals, revisions or other proceedings before High Courts and the Supreme Court arising out of out of all or any judgement in cases related to 2G Spectrum.The notification appointing Mehta, reads, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (8) of section 24 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (2 of 1974), the Central Government hereby appoints Shri Tushar Mehta, Advocate, New Delhi, as Special Public Prosecutor for conducting prosecution, appeals/revisions or other proceedings arising out of the cases related to 2G Spectrum investigated by the Delhi Special Police Establishment (CBI) in the Court of Special Judge (2G Spectrum cases), Central Bureau of Investigation, New Delhi and ...

Body of a 26-year-old engineer, who was missing since a day, was found in Ladpur village here, police said today. Himanshu's body with injury marks on neck was found in a field yesterday, a day after he went missing, Circle Officer Rajiv Kumar Singh said. The family members of the victim protested and initially refused to handover the body for post-mortem, he said. They were demanding immediate arrest of three men - Mohit, Subham and Arun, accusing them of killing Himanshu over some financial dispute, Singh said. Later the police pacified the irate family members and sent the body for post-mortem examination, the officer said. A case has been registered against the three men who are absconding, the circle officer said.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday will continue to hear a plea filed by owner of Gitanjali Gems, Mehul Choksi, seeking the quashing of an FIR lodged against him for alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust.The plea was filed after Punjab National Bank (PNB) lodged two financial fraud complaints of Rs. 11400 crore and Rs 280 crore against noted jewellery designer Nirav Modi, his family members and his uncle, Choksi.Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday sealed the bank's MCB Brady House branch in Mumbai as part of ongoing investigation.Earlier, PNB had detected the scam in which the top businessman had acquired fraudulent letters of undertaking from one of its branches for overseas credit from other Indian lenders.The scam started in 2011 and was detected in the third week of January this year, after which the PNB officials filed a complaint with the CBI on January 31.

The National Criminal Court said the pardon granted to Fujimori in a human rights case for which he was serving a 25-year sentence did not apply to the murders of the group. With the arrest of its six persons, including five traders here, police today busted an inter-state gang that stole goods from moving trucks, an official said. The accused were identified as Arban Kanjar, Pradeep Madhwani, Abdul Wajid, Rahul Lalwani, Amir and Salman, who were arrested on a tip-off, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harinarayanachari Mishra said. Except Arban, all the other accused are traders, who used to purchase the stolen goods. "Arban used to steal the goods from the moving trucks by cutting the tarpaulin (cover) laid to hide the consignment. Arban's accomplices would drive vehicles in front of and behind the moving truck and steal the goods without the knowledge of truck drivers," he said. A brick-kiln owner was shot dead by four unidentified assailants at the Budana Mavee Road here, police said today. Vijay Singh, a resident of Fafrana village, was shot at least 12 times last night. The incident took place when he was returning to his kiln in a car after purchasing medicines from Modi Nagar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) H N Singh said. "He has a long criminal history and the police had declared reward of Rs 20,000. His family members have lodged a complaint. The matter is being probed by the Niwari Town police," he said. The accused identified as Harsh is a resident of BudhVihar in Rohini and had been earlier sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case of Palam Vihar police station, Gurgaon, in 2012 and was lodged in Bhondsi jail, Haryana for five years. The CBI has refused to share details of expenses incurred to bring back to India fugitive businessmen Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya, claiming immunity from disclosures under the RTI Act. Pune-based activist Vihar Dhurve had approached the agency seeking details of expenses incurred by the government to bring back Mallya, wanted in India on charges of Rs 9,000-crore fraud and Modi, who is facing a money laundering probe. Both Modi and Mallya have denied allegations of wrongdoings. Mallya had fled the country in March, 2016 after the CBI diluted its lookout circular against him. The agency has sent its team multiple times to London to pursue an extradition case against the embattled liquor tycoon. The RTI application was forwarded to the CBI by the Finance Ministry. The agency transferred it to the Special Investigation Team looking after these cases. In its response to the RTI plea, the CBI said it is exempt from making any disclosures under the RTI Act through a government notification .
