Cong "choreographed" 2G chargesheet, verdict no clean chit:BJP

The BJP today cited a Supreme Court verdict on 2G spectrum to assert corruption in the case and claimed that a trial court order acquitting the accused was no "clean chit" to the opposition party. While Finance Minister Arun Jaitley cited the details of the UPA government's policy and the apex court's subsequent order in 2012 quashing all allocations to say that the facts proved corruption in the case, his colleague Prakash Javadekar claimed it was the Congress which had "choreographed" the chargesheet in the criminal matter. The trial court in its verdict today had described the chargesheet as "choreographed". Javadekar told reporters that the CBI had filed it in 2011 when the Congress-led UPA was in power. "The Congress choreographed it," he said, citing a case in which then law minister Ashwani Kumar had to resign after he was accused of interfering with a CBI report into a probe in coal block allocations. Javadekar likened the case to a murder probe, saying that if ..

Some experts hail 2G verdict, others say battle won in SC lost

Legal experts expressed differing views on a special court verdict acquitting all accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam cases, with one of them saying that it was an example that how battles won in the Supreme Court are often lost in lower courts. Senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan expressed "surprise" over the outcome of the trial, while former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee refrained from terming the judgement as "good or bad" but was quick to add that it can be challenged in the higher court. With varying opinions coming on the verdict, one section dubbed the acquittal as "unfortunate" and opined that it would politically raise a serious situation, while another section said that a "bubble was created" which burst due to lack of evidence. "I am surprised. Have not gone through the verdict yet but this shows how battles won in the Supreme Court are often lost in courts below," Dhavan told PTI. Sorabjee said this is not a "final verdict" and can be tested in appeals ...
