Ponzi scam: SIT raids IMA Jewels head office in Bengaluru

A team of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka Police conducted a search at I Monetary Advisory (IMA) Jewels head office in Shivaji Nagar area here on Thursday in connection with the multi-crore ponzi scam.The IMA Jewels is embroiled in a case where the firm had allegedly cheated a large number of investors after promising them impressive returns on their deposits.IMA Jewels auditor Iqbal Khan was arrested by the SIT in connection with the Ponzi scam in Bengaluru on Thursday. Three held for attack on cast, crew of ALTBalaji show

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on the cast and crew of ALTBalaji's under-production show "Fixer" in neighbouring Thane district, a senior police official said Thursday. Some team members of the web series on Thursday also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured that strict action will be taken against the culprits. According to a police official, there was a dispute over selection of a spot for the shoot, following which some men attacked the show's crew members while they were shooting at a set located on Ghodbunder Road in Thane on Tuesday. Indian man, wife torture, starve mother to death in Dubai

An Indian couple has been charged at a Dubai court with physically assaulting the man's elderly mother, causing her bone and rib fractures, internal bleeding and starving her to death, according to a media report. According to the Gulf News, the 29-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife, whose identity have not been revealed, tortured the woman repeatedly and they even cut her right eye iris out and part of her other eye, the Court of First Instance heard. The torture is believed to have lasted from July 2018 till October 2018. A forensic doctor said that the woman weighed just 29 kg at the time of her death, the report said. "She was tortured repeatedly over a short span of time. Burns covered 10 per cent of her body. The bone and rib fractures, internal bleeding, beating with different tools, burns, negligence and starvation have all led to the deterioration of her health condition," the doctor said. A Gujarat court on Thursday sentenced former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt to life imprisonment in a custodial death case dating back to 1990.The Jamnagar Sessions Court charged Bhatt under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code which deals with punishment for murder."After the complete trial in 1990 Jam Jodhpur custodial death case, Jamnagar Sessions Court today booked accused Sanjeev Bhatt and Pravinsinh Jhala under section 302 while the others are booked for torturing. Mumbai police serve notice on Ker CPI(M) chief's son in rape case

The Mumbai Police Thursday served a notice on Binoy Kodiyeri, elder son of Kerala CPI(M) state secretary, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, asking him to appear before the investigating officers within 72 hours in a rape and cheating case against him, police said. Two Mumbai police officials along with two local police personnel went to Binoy's ancestral home in Kannur district's Thiruvangad this morning to serve him the notice, but he was not at home, they said. Nine-month-old raped, murdered in Telangana's Warangal

A 25-year-old man was held for allegedly raping and murdering nine-month-old girl here in Hanamkonda area of Warangal district on Tuesday."A 25-year-old man K Praveen kidnapped a nine-month-old girl while she was sleeping with her parents on the terrace on their residence. The accused took the toddler to an ideal place. Meanwhile, the victim's parents noticed that their daughter was missing and started searching for her in nearby places. Later, they saw the accused sexually assaulting their daughter," Sampath Rao, Circle Inspector of Hanmakonda Police Station, told ANI.The parents of the victim handed over the accused to the police. A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter over the death of Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala, British police confirmed on Wednesday. The forward, 28, died when a plane carrying him and pilot David Ibbotson came down in the Channel on January 21, just days after he had joined Cardiff City from Nantes. "As a result of our enquiries we have today, Wednesday 19 June 2019, arrested a 64-year-old man from the North Yorkshire area on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act," Detective Inspector Simon Huxter, of Dorset Police said in a statement. "He is assisting with our enquiries and has been released from custody under investigation." PMLA case: Court orders Zakir Naik to appear before it on July 31

A special PMLA court here Wednesday ordered controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, accused of laundering money to the tune of Rs 193 crore, to personally appear before it on July 31. The court warned that if Naik fails to appear before it by July 31, a non-bailable warrant will be issued against him. PMLA court judge Prashant P Rajvaidya gave the order after taking cognisance of the supplementary charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against one of the accused in the case - Abul Sathak. Naik himself is absconding and is said to be in Malaysia. He was booked by the ED in 2016 based on a National Investigation Agency (NIA) FIR that was registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Minor raped inside Army's Eastern Command hq, accused held

A minor girl was raped inside the Fort William, Indian Army's Eastern Command headquarter here, and the accused was arrested, police said on Wednesday. The accused, a Group D staff of the Army, was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The alleged incident took place in the evening of Saturday inside the residence of the girl, the daughter of another employee of the Army, when her parents were not at home, police said. Their residence was located at Old Bapu Lane inside the Fort William. The accused fled after committing the crime and he was arrested on Tuesday night, police said.
