Man, differently abled brother thrashed in Delhi

A 28-year-old man and his differently abled younger brother were allegedly beaten up in Dwarka's Bindapur area following an altercation with a group of people, police said Wednesday. According to police, the incident took place on Monday night when one of the victims, Rajender, was returning home from work. On the way, one Nikki met him around 10 pm and started abusing him. The accused also slapped Rajender, following which the victim called his brother Jaswant to the spot, police said. When Jaswant reached the spot, Nikki, along with Amit, his brother, Sanju and Maanu attacked them with weapons, a police official said. In the mean while, Rajender and some passersby called police, following which the victims were rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, police said. On the complaint of Jaswant, a case was registered at Bindapur police station on Tuesday and a hunt is on to nab the accused, they added.

Man held for flashing at woman inside metro station in Gurgaon

A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly flashing his privates at a woman while watching pornographic content on his mobile phone inside a metro station in Gurgaon, police said on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Dinesh, a resident of Sector-57 in Gurgaon and a native of Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh. "He was arrested from Delhi. Dinesh was working as an office boy in an organisation in Gurgaon for the past six months and earlier used to work as a driver," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said. Dalit sarpanch's husband beaten to death in Gujarat

Husband of a Dalit sarpanch was allegedly beaten to death using sticks and pipes by around six men when he was going on his motorcycle on Ranpur-Barvala road in Botad district on Wednesday, police said. Hours before he succumbed to his injuries, Manjibhai Solanki (51), claimed in his dying declaration, recorded by his relatives on phone, that his motorcycle was first hit by a car, after which he was thrashed mercilessly by five to six men, who were traveling in that car. The deceased was the husband of Geeta Solanki, the sarpanch of Jalia village of Ranpur taluka of Botad, police said. Sub-inspector booked for bid to outrage woman's modesty

A sub-inspector was booked for allegedly attempting to outrage the modesty of a 30-year-old woman, an official said Wednesday. Posted at the Dangipura police station in Jhalawar district, SHO Raju Udaiwal was booked following an order by a court on the complaint of the woman. The woman, in a complaint to police, had stated that she was called at the Dangipura police station by Raju Udaiwal on April 18 this year to record her statement in a case lodged by her family against a neighbour, police said. The woman alleged that the SHO, while recording her statement, attempted to outrage her modesty, Jhalawar SP Ram Murti Joshi said. Runaway murder case accused held

A 35-year-old man wanted in a murder case in Latur district has been arrested from Thane, police said Wednesday. The accused, Balaji Kopanbaine, has been on the run since June 11 this year when he was booked for allegedly killing his brother-in-law Venkati Jagdale, an officer said, adding that a case was registered against him at Ahmedpur police station in Latur, around 490 km from here. Police have arrested another person in connection with the murder case, the officer said, adding that the motive behind the crime is not known yet. Kopanbaine was picked up from Dyaneshwar Nagar here Tuesday night by a team of police personnel on a tip-off, he said. Delhi hospital lodges police complaint against vandalism by crowd

A Delhi government hospital, that was allegedly ransacked by an irate crowd on Tuesday evening, Wednesday lodged a police complaint seeking "institutional FIR" against the people who vandalised its properties, officials said. The incident took place at Maharshi Valmiki Hospital in Bawana area after a six-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man in outer Delhi, was brought to the hospital. The doctors had referred her to another facility, saying emergency services were not available, following which an irate crowd ransacked the facility. A senior police officer said that they received a complaint from the hospital authorities on Wednesday and they are investigating the case. Man shot at by bike-borne miscreants in outer Delhi's Bawana

A 45-year-old man was shot at allegedly by four bike-borne persons in outer Delhi's Bawana area on Wednesday evening, police said. The victim has been identified as Kuldeep, a resident Bawana. He works in a private company as a driver and used to supply goods in the Delhi Cantonement area, they said. According to police, the incident took place at around 6.30 pm and the victim sustained two bullet injuries to his stomach. Kuldeep is undergoing treatment at a hospital here and his condition is stated to be stable, officials said. Man held for molesting woman in flat

A man was Wednesday arrested for allegedly molesting a woman after entering a flat that provides paying guest service for women, police said. The accused, Bhavin Shah, who works as a food delivery man, was picked up on a tip-off after he was caught in the act on a CCTV camera, a Navrangpura police station officer said. The incident occurred on June 14 midnight when the man, later identified as Shah, entered the flat in Kamal Nayan Apartment in Navrangpura locality after finding its door unlocked, he said. Gang of auto-lifters busted in Delhi, 2 held

The Delhi Police Wednesday busted a gang of auto lifters and mobile phone snatchers with the arrest of two of its members. The gang was active in outer, northwest and West Delhi, police said. Police recovered 10 stolen motorcycles and three mobile phones from them, they said. A local who first spotted the remains of Sheena Bora in a Raigad jungle in 2012 deposed before the trial court here Wednesday. Sheena (24) was allegedly killed by her mother and media executive Indrani Mukerjea with the help of others in April 2012 and the body was burnt in a jungle in neighbouring Raigad district. A stamp paper vendor and two members of his family were Wednesday arrested here for allegedly using forged seal and signature to issue stamp papers, police said. The trio was arrested on the charge of cheating, and stamp papers of Rs 500 and Rs 100 denominations, collectively worth Rs 68 lakh, were seized from them, police said. According to police, the stamp papers were genuine, but they were procured by the accused without the mandatory signature and stamp of the treasury officer. A tailor was arrested here for attacking a 30-year-old woman with scissors following a heated argument between the two, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place in outer Delhi's Nangloi on Monday when the woman confronted Brijesh at his house for allegedly making objectionable comments against one of her sisters. Cop suffers bullet injury in gunfight

A senior sub-inspector received a bullet injury during a gunfight near Ram Manohar Lohiya Park here, police said Wednesday. The incident took place Tuesday night when police signalled a speeding scooter to stop for checking. Superintendent of Police (City) Shlok Kumar said one of the two scooter riders, identified as Nazim, fired at the cops, injuring Senior Sub-Inspector Mahak Singh, posted at the Shaheed Nagar police station. In the retaliatory fire, Nazim also suffered a bullet injury in his right leg. His accomplice managed to flee. Builder injured in road rage incident in east Delhi

A builder suffered injury after he was allegedly shot in the leg when he tried to intervene in an incident of road rage in East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area on Wednesday evening, police said. Jeet Singh, 48, tried to pacify two groups of youngsters who were fighting after their bikes were stuck in a narrow lane at Gururam Das Nagar and wanted the other side to pull back and give way, they said. When Singh intervened and told them to not fight, one of them opened fire and shot him in the lower part of his leg and fled from the spot. Payal Tadvi suicide: Bail hearing of accused to proceed without video recording

The special court hearing the bail pleas of the three accused in the Dr Payal Tadvi suicide case Wednesday said proceedings will not be video recorded in the absence of necessary facilities. The court had ordered video recording of the bail proceedings earlier under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Delhi Commission for Women has issued notices to the Medical Superintendent of Maharshi Valmiki Hospital and the city police in connection with the alleged sexual assault on a six-year-old girl in Bawana. The girl was allegedly assaulted by a man in outer Delhi Tuesday and was taken to Maharshi Valmiki Hospital in Rohini where doctors referred her to another facility saying emergency services were closed, angering a crowd that ransacked the premises. Saudis slam findings in UN report on Khashoggi murder

A Saudi minister on Wednesday slammed as "unfounded" a UN expert report calling for those involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi to be held accountable. "It is not new. The (UN) report reiterates what has already been published and circulated in the media," Adel al-Jubeir, Saudi minister of state for foreign affairs, said on Twitter.
