A three-year-old boy who suffered severe head injury after being allegedly subjected to torture by his mother died at a private hospital near here Friday morning, doctors said. Doctors at the hospital in Aluva where the boy was being treated said the brain injury allegedly caused after being hit with a wooden object could be the reason for the child's death. The real cause of death could be ascertained only after the post mortem, they said. The boy had slipped into coma after being allegedly subjected to torture by his mother for being 'disobedient', police had said Thursday. The toddler, who suffered severe brain injury, had undergone a surgery at the private hospital. The woman, who hails from Jharkhand, was arrested Thursday in connection with the incident. A 22-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by three youths on the pretext of giving her lift in neighbouring Shamli district, police said. The manager of a gas agency has been arrested for allegedly illegally selling LPG cylinders in Sion area, a senior police official said Thursday. The accused, who runs a gas agency in Sion, allegedly used to get Hindustan Petroleum's LPG cylinders in the name of different people and sell them illegally, he said. Acting on specific information, the police raided the gas agency Wednesday and nabbed its manager, Keol Das Nadar, the official said. A man, who was released from jail earlier this year, was arrested in connection with last month's killing of a man hailing from Haryana over a property dispute, police said Thursday. The accused, Narendra Koli, has involvements in several murder cases and was arrested on April 16 following a tip-off that he would be visiting near Ritz Cinema, they said. The deceased, identified as Harish, also has a criminal background. He allegedly encroached on one of the properties belonging to Koli in Haryana's Bhiwani when he was in judicial custody in another murder case, G Ram Gopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) said. When Koli came out of Jail in January, he asked Harish to abandon the property but when he did not pay any heed to him, he, along with his associates Monu, Sonu, Sooraj, Raju and Manoj, hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Harish, the officer said. Three persons were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a ten-year-old boy in Sagda village near here, police said Thursday. According to police, had executed the kidnapping to extort money from the boy's family. "Some of the villagers had last seen the boy, Badal Giri Goswami, going with the trio, which led to their arrest," Jabalpur superintendent of Police (SP) Nimesh Agrawal said. During the interrogation, one of the accused, Mukesh Sripal, revealed that they wanted ransom from the boy's family, he said. "The accused told that they had lost huge money in gambling. Over 1.24 lakh litres of beer worth Rs 3 crore kept at a government godown in Gautam Buddh Nagar was destroyed Thursday after it reached its expiry date, officials said. The beer worth an estimate Rs 3 crore belonged to three companies United Breweries, IndoSpirit and Jasmeet Chaddha-Rohit Anand, an excise department official said. "There were 45,000 bottles and 1.92 lakh cans of beer that had reached expiry date. Altogether, 1.24 lakh litres of such expired beer was destroyed," District Excise Officer Rakesh Singh said. "The total cost of the beer would have been around Rs 3 crore if not expired," he said. Singh said beer becomes unfit for drinking after six months. The action was taken on directions from the district magistrate by sub-divisional magistrate, Dadri, Rajeev Rai in presence of deputy excise commissioner, Meerut.

The brother of gangster Sohrabuddin Shaikh, who was killed in an alleged fake encounter along with his wife and an associate, has filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court, challenging the acquittal of all 22 accused in the case. Sohrabuddin's brother, Rubabuddin, Thursday said he had wanted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file appeal against the acquittals, but since the agency made no move, he filed the appeal himself. In December 2018, a special CBI court acquitted the 22 accused, observing that the prosecution had failed to establish a cogent case to suggest that there was a conspiracy to kill the three persons. While there is no denying that Shaikh and the other two had been killed, "going by the evidence on record, the court could not conclude that the present accused persons could be questioned, or, held accountable for those deaths," the court had said. A 14-year-old girl was allegedly strangled Thursday by her mother and brother who then stuffed her body in a gunny bag but were spotted before they could get rid of it, police said here. The girl was allegedly killed over a tiff and the accused were arrested while they were carrying the body they had stuffed in a gunny bag to conceal it in Sangam Vihar, they said.
