A Jodhpur court on Monday acquitted actor Salman Khan in a case related to submitting a false affidavit in court.
Thais arrest Italian on run after George Clooney conviction
Thai police said they have arrested an Italian man wanted in his home country after he fled a jail sentence handed down for fraudulently using the name of actor George Clooney to lure people into investing in a bogus clothing company. Thailand's Crime Suppression Division said in a statement that Francesco Galdeli, 58, was arrested Saturday near the city of Pattaya on suspicion of staying in the country illegally. Also arrested was Vanja Goffi, 45, on suspicion of overstaying her visa. Interpol notice had been issued for Galdeli and he was arrested at an address provided by Italian authorities, Thai authorities said in their statement Sunday. It was not immediately clear if the two had a lawyer. Galdeli was sentenced by a Milan court in 2010 to more than eight years in jail after he was found guilty of impersonating Clooney to trick investors, police said. Galdeli had lived in Thailand for around seven years, police said.
Delhi Police institutes enquiry into auto driver thrashing incident

1 person killed, 7 others injured in graduation shooting
Authorities in Philadelphia say one person has been killed and at least seven others have been shot during a graduation party. KYW-TV reports the shooting occurred Sunday shortly before 10:30 pm near South 70th Street and Reed Bird Place. Authorities say four teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 suffered gunshot wounds to their legs. Four adults in their 20s were shot in various parts of their body. Law enforcement officials have not identified the dead person. Authorities have not provided a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made in the shooting.
Trial set for Navy SEAL in Islamic State prisoner's killing
The trial of a decorated Navy SEAL charged with killing an Islamic State prisoner in his care is set to begin Monday following months of turmoil in one of the Navy's most prominent war crimes cases. The court-martial of Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher, which begins with jury selection, has included the removal of the lead prosecutor for tracking the defense team's emails and suggestions by President Donald Trump that he may pardon the defendant. Gallagher has pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder in the killing of the prisoner in his care and attempted murder in the shootings of two civilians in Iraq in 2017 in separate incidents. Kejriwal seeks action against cops for thrashing driver
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal take strict action against the police personnel who allegedly assaulted a driver in Delhi. Kejriwal, who met the family of the man, said the Delhi police's "brutality" in Mukherjee Nagar area on Sunday was highly condemnable and unjustified. "I demand an impartial probe into the whole incident & strict action against the guilty. Protectors of citizens can't be allowed to turn into uncontrolled violent mobsters," the chief minister tweeted. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday ordered an inquiry after four youth escaped from a juvenile home in Meerut yesterday.The caretaker and another employee of the juvenile home have been suspended, a statement from the Chief Minister's office said.Moreover, the district probation officer and deputy director probation have been asked for a written explanation on the matter.Concerned officials have been asked to inspect all the juvenile homes in order to check on security arrangements and provide adequate facilities.
Delhi court grants bail to Monty Chadha in cheating case
A Delhi Court on Monday granted bail to Wave Group vice-chairman Manpreet Singh (Monty) Chadha in connection with a cheating case.Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Gulshan Kumar granted bail to Chadha, son of late liquor baron Ponty Chadha, and directed him to furnish two surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.The court in its order also stated that the businessman cannot travel abroad without seeking prior permission from it.During the course of hearing, ASJ Kumar pulling up the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and asked why no investigation took place between January 2018 and June 2019 into the claims of the investors, who alleged cheating at the hands of Chadha.Senior advocate Vivek Tankha, Vikas Pahwa and Sumeer Sodhi appeared on behalf of Chadha.The court was hearing the second bail plea filed by the Wave Group vice-chairman in connection with the cheating case against him.On June 13, Metropolitan Magistrate Paras Dala rejected Chadha's bail plea and sent him to 14-day judicial custody.Monty ..

The special court, hearing the rape and murder case of an 8-year-old nomadic girl in Kathua in Jammu region, has termed the crime "devilish and monstrous" committed in most "shameful, inhumane and barbaric manner" for which "poetic justice" needs to be done to its perpetrators. District and sessions judge of Pathankot, which was hearing the matter on the direction of the Supreme Court, convicted six people on June 10 in the case which included Sanji Ram, dismissed policeman Deepak Khajuria and Parvesh Kumar, who have been sentenced to life in jail. "Heaven and hell are no geographical locations, our thoughts, actions and character create the situation of heaven or hell for us," judge Dr Tejwinder Singh wrote in the beginning of his 432-page judgment, a copy of which is with PTI. USA: 1 killed, 7 injured in mass shooting at Southwest Philadelphia
One person was killed and several others sustained injuries after a gunman open fired at a graduation party in Southwest Philadelphia on Sunday (local time).According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross, four of the victims were teenagers between the age of 15 to 17, who suffered gunshot wounds to their legs.The remaining victims, all in their twenties, suffered wounds to different parts of their bodies, one of which succumbed to injuries soon after being shot, reported CNN.Around 60 people were at the party when the shots rang out, Ross added.The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.Police are searching for the suspect and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.Further details are awaited.
Ponty Chadha's son Manpreet gets bail in real estate fraud case
Slain liquor baron Ponty Chadha's son Manpreet Singh Chadha was granted bail on Monday in an alleged real estate fraud case. Additional Session Judge Gulshan Kumar granted relief to Manpreet, apprehended at Delhi airport when he was leaving for Phuket on Wednesday night, on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount. The court, however, put various conditions on the accused, including that he won't be able to leave the country without its prior permission. It also asked the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police why no investigation was done between January 2018 and June 2019 into the claims of other investors. Man killed in celebratory firing in UP's Banda
A 22-year-old man was killed allegedly in a celebratory firing at his cousin's wedding in Uttar Pradesh, police said Monday. The incident took place on Sunday night at Chitha Purva village which comes under the jurisdiction of Marka police station. The man, identified as Chotu Singh, died after being hit by a bullet fired allegedly from Baldau's gun, his other cousin, said police station in-charge Zakir Hussain. Private sector lender ICICI Bank Monday approached the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), seeking a direction to NCLT, Allahabad to expedite the hearing on its insolvency petition against Jaypee group firm Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL). In September 2018, ICICI Bank had filed a petition before the Allahabad bench of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) seeking to start insolvency proceedings of JAL, which is into infrastructure and real estate. In its plea before the appellate tribunal, ICICI Bank submitted that there has been no progress in its petition filed before the NCLT Allahabad in last nine months. Hearing the matter, a single member NCLT bench of Justice Bansi Lal Bhat directed to list ICICI Bank's plea on July 1 for hearing. JAL's subsidiary Jaypee Infratech is already going through a corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP). Charred body of farmer found in UP's Pratapgarh, probe on
Charred body of a 35-year-old Dalit farmer was found from a field in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district, police said Monday. The incident happened in Bela Rampur village in Patti area of the district, officials said, adding that the man, Vinay Saroj, was killed and then his body was set on fire. The body has been sent for postmortem and further investigations are underway, they said. No arrests have so far been made in the case.

Man held for abducting 8-month-old nephew
A man has been arrested for abducting his eight-month-old nephew in Muzaffarnagar district, police said Monday. Sachin, the uncle, and his friend Sonu have been arrested for abducting the toddler a few days ago. The child was rescued on Sunday. Police said the motive behind the abduction was not clear yet but they were investigating it. He and his mother had been living at her parents' home in Niyazpur area after a fight with her in-laws.

One person was arrested on Sunday for allegedly thrashing another person to death over suspicion of theft in North West Delhi's Prem Nagar here.The accused Amit is a shopkeeper and runs an auto garage in Prem Nagar."Amit said that the man had stolen some electronic items and DVR from his garage," the police said.The police on Saturday received information that a man was lying unconscious on the ground and he had injury marks on his body.The 23-year-old as declared brought dead at Sanjay Gandhi hospital.
