The City Police have busted a sex racket allegedly being operated in the guise of a spa in Shimla and rescued six girls.The Shimla Police have also arrested two accused in connection with the case on Saturday.A team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dinesh Sharma raided the spa, which was inaugurated over a month ago. "We have rescued six girls, one from Thailand, three from Manipur and two from Delhi. Two accused have also been arrested," said Sharma.An investigation has been initiated in the matter.
A 73-year-old homemaker was found dead with her throat slit at her house in southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Saturday, police said. The deceased was identified as Sarita Pandey. She lived with her husband. Her son, daughter and grandson live nearby, a senior police officer said. The deceased's husband had gone out and when he returned home at around 6.30 pm, he found his wife's body on the sofa with her throat slit, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said. During preliminary investigation, it was found that the house had not been ransacked and there was no forced entry, he said. A murder case has been registered at Sarita Vihar police station and an investigation is underway, the police said. Several teams have been formed to look for clues and they are probing all angles to ascertain the sequence of events, they said.
A 61-year-old Indian has been shot dead by a 16-year-old boy in the US state of New Jersey, media reports said Saturday. Sunil Edla, who was to travel to India this month to visit his mother for her 95th birthday and celebrate Christmas with family, was killed outside his apartment in Ventnor city on Thursday night, The Press of Atlantic City reported. Known for playing piano during church services at Chelsea Community Presbyterian Church in Atlantic City, he was a father of two and grandfather. He was a 30-year resident of Atlantic County and worked in Atlantic City's hospitality industry. An autopsy revealed that he died of multiple gunshot wounds, the report said. A Sub Inspector with Navi Mumbai police's Crime Branch was Saturday booked for allegedly raping a woman constable, an official said. The complainant, who approached CBD police station Saturday, has alleged that sub inspector Amit Shelar had raped her in March last year after spiking her cold drink, the official said. The 31-year-old complainant has also told police that the accused had recorded the incident and had threatened to circulate it, the official added. She has said the accused raped her several times in places like CBD, Panvel, Kamothe and Kharghar, he informed. She was also allegedly beaten up by the accused, the official said. A court here on Saturday granted a 45-day extension to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a charge sheet against two of the six accused in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case. Dabholkar, a well-known anti-superstition activist, was shot dead in Pune on August 20, 2013. The CBI, after invoking relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), had moved an application before the court seeking an extension of 90 days to file the charge sheet against two accused, Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S M A Sayyad only granted a 45-day extension to the probe agency. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar courted a controversy by making objectionable remarks over rape incidents.Addressing a gathering on November 15 in Kalka, the Chief Minister said that most of the rape incidences usually happen between known people."The incidents of rape haven't increased. These used to happen before as well. Today, only the concerns have grown. 80 to 90 percent of the incidents happen between people who already know each other," Khattar remarked.He further said that most of the incidences are between people who usually spend time together but after some arguments, file a rape complaint.In September this year, the alleged abduction and gang rape of a 19-year-old girl from Haryana's Rewari had created a nation-wide outrage. The Maharashtra Police on Saturday arrested activist Varavara Rao from his residence here in connection with Bhima Koregaon violence case.This comes after Rao's house arrest extended by the Hyderabad High Court on October 25 this year ended on Saturday. A woman allegedly slit throats of her two children and attempted suicide apparently over an "unhappy marriage" in south Delhi's Hauz Rani area on Saturday, police said. Police were informed about the incident at around 10.50 am, they said. Mohsina (30), along with her two children was rushed to a hospital by her family and neighbours where her three-year-old daughter died. The woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old son was in critical condition. According to police, the woman had an argument with her husband on Friday night about him coming home late and drunk, following which he went to his parents' home in an opposite building. He stayed there while his mother came to Mohsina's house, they added. In the morning, Mohsina's mother-in-law came back to her house leaving her with the children, police said, adding it is suspected that it was during this time that Mohsina allegedly attacked her children and also tried to kill herself. A Pune Sessions Court on Saturday granted a 45-day extension to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file charge sheet in activist Narendra Dabholkar murder case.The court had earlier granted 90-day period, which will expire on November 18, to CBI to file the supplementary charge sheet against five of the six accused.On Thursday, the CBI told the court that it has invoked terror charges against the accused- Sharad Kalaskar and Sachin Andure-in the case as the murder was committed to create "terror" in the society. The Special Operations Group of Rajkot Rural Police arrested two persons Saturday with heroin worth Rs 44 lakh. Acting on a tip-off that some persons were selling heroin near Pipaliya village in Gondal taluka, the SOG team conducted a raid, a police official said. "During patrolling, we received a tip-off that some persons were trying to sell heroin. We raided a place near the border of Pipaliya and arrested two persons with 440 grams of heroin," said inspector M N Rana.
