Will prove that bribery case against me is false: Dhinakaran
Former AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran Saturday said he would prove that the case filed against him in a Delhi court in the alleged Election Commission bribery case, related to the two-leaves party symbol, was false. "I will prove through court that this is only a false case," he said in his twitter handle, reacting to the court ordering framing of charges against him. Four dacoits arrested in UP
Four notorious dacoits were arrested from the forests of Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, police said. Following a tip off, an anti-dacoity team laid seige to the Lakhanpir Pahar. After night-long combing operations in the forests, four members of the Babli Kol gang were arrested, they said. Those arrested were identified as Munna, Langra, Lavkush and Amit alias Lalla, they added. Lavkush and Amit suffered gunshot injuries and the other two were also injured after falling from the hill, the police said. All four have been admitted to a hospital. A .315 bore rifle and live cartridges were recovered from them, the police said.
Court awards 12 yr-jail term to man for raping minor sister-in-law
A local court here on Saturday awarded 12 year-jail term to a man for raping his minor sister-in-law last year in Bihar's Sheikhpura district. A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court Additional District and Sessions Judge Gyanendra Kumar Srivastava held the man called Rajiv Mahto, guilty, under relevant sections of the POCSO and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on Mahto. Special Public Prosecutor Naila Begum said that the convict, a resident of Musahri village of Nalanda district, was married to a woman of a village under the jurisdiction of the Shekhopursarai police station in Sheikhpura district in June last year. The man, during his second visit to his in-laws' house after marriage, raped his minor sister-in-law (wife's sister) on June 23 last year, the Special PP said, adding that the girl had lodged an FIR the next day. Bihar police attach property of absconding ex-minister Manju Verma
The Bihar police Saturday attached property of former state minister Manju Verma, evading arrest under the arms act following recovery of ammunition from her home during a CBI raid in connection with the Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scandal case. Armed with a court order, the police initiated the process of attaching Verma's property at Arjun tola village here. Amid tight security, the police removed the grill, doors, door frames of a house belonging to her, superintendent of police Awakash Kumar said. All articles inside the house were seized during the operation initiated under sections 82 and 83 of Criminal Procedure Code. It lasted for around five hours. Earlier in the day, a property attachment notice was pasted on Verma's house, Kumar said. Sohrabuddin Shaikh's brother said here Saturday that Tulsiram Prajapti had told him about Shaikh's alleged abduction by the Gujarat Police and subsequent death in a fake encounter in November 2005. Prajapati, Sohrabuddin's associate, was himself killed in an alleged fake encounter in 2006. Rubabuddin Shaikh, Sohrabuddin's brother, deposed before the special CBI court here. A Delhi court on Saturday framed charges against RK Nagar MLA TTV Dhinakaran and three others in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) 'two-leaves' symbol alleged bribery case.The court has booked Dhinakaran under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.Reacting to the framing of charges against him, Dhinakaran wrote on Twitter, "Due to some vested interest, a case was initiated in the court, stating that I bribed people to get the 'two leaves' symbol. Amarinder attacks Badal over remarks on police firing probe
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh Saturday attacked SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal for claiming that the ongoing SIT probe against him in the 2015 police firings at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan was politically motivated. After Badal was questioned by the special investigation team (SIT) on Friday, the former chief minister of Punjab described the exercise as "politically motivated". He alleged that the probe was being conducted at the "behest of (the) chief minister". "Badal was making desperate attempts to divert public attention from the ongoing SIT probe against him by calling it politically motivated," Singh said. He also dismissed the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader's accusation that the SIT was working under "influence". Woman kills 3-yr-old daughter, injures son by slitting their throats before attempting suicide
A woman attempted suicide after allegedly slitting throats of her two children because of an "unhappy marriage" in south Delhi's Hauz Rani area on Saturday, police said. Police were informed about the incident at around 10.50 am, they said. Mohsina (30), along with her two children was rushed to a hospital by her family and neighbours where her three-year-old daughter died. The woman and her one-and-a-half-year old son was in critical condition. According to police, the woman had an argument with her husband on Friday night about him coming home late and drunk, following which he went to his parents' home in an opposite building. He stayed there while his mother came to Mohsina's house, they added. A Delhi court on Saturday granted anticipatory bail toAAP MLAAmanatullah Khan in a case lodged against him in connection with the ruckus at the inaugural function ofSignature Bridge. Special Judge Arun Bharadwaj granted relief to Khan, saying that it was not a case where custodial interrogation was required. It is directed that in the event of arrest, the applicant (Khan) shall be released on furnishing a personal bond or Rs one lakh and one surety of like amount to the arresting officer, the court said. It, however, directed Khan to join the investigation and not tamper with evidence or influence witnesses. A Delhi court on Saturday dischargedChief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a defamation complaintfiled by Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra, saying Chandra had not followed proper procedure while filing his plea. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal granted the relief to the Aam Aadmi Party chief, noting that Chandra had filed the complaint through a power of attorney which is barred under law. The court said that Chandra was at liberty to file a fresh complaint in accordance with law. Hence proceeding further with this case will be a futile exercise as this case is also filed through power of attorney. Accordingly the accused Arvind Kejriwal is discharged from this case, the court said. Two persons were arrested Saturday for allegedly killing a 60-year-old man by smashing his head with a stone in Shil Daighar area in Thane district of Maharashtra on November 15, the police said. Police had found the body of the victim Maruti Pawar, a resident of Mumbra township, in a farm in Shil-Daighar on Thursday. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abhay Saigaonkar said Pawar used to quarrel with the arrested accused, identified as Sunil Sahu and Sanjay Sahu (both aged 20), who are employed at a local food joint. He said the Sahus and two others attacked Pawar on Thursday and smashed his head with a 15-kg stone before dumping his body in a nearby farm. The ACP said the police are looking for Raj Chepand and Bhai Chepang for their alleged role in the crime. Acting on a complaint, a vigilance team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gopal Paswan, laid a trap and caught Om Prakash Prasad, the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Begusarai, red-handed, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh at his official residence in Begusarai, officials said. The team also recovered an additional amount of Rs 5.6 lakh from the ADM's official residence, the DSP of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Gopal Paswan, said. NCB seizes 350 gm of cocaine, arrest woman
Sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 350 gm of cocaine and arrested a woman here in this connection, officials said Saturday. The drugs, worth around Rs 17 lakh in the local market was seized from a parcel at Ramhlun Post Office in Aizawl Friday. The NCB officials arrested the woman whose name and address was written on the package from Bawngkawn locality here, they said. The package containing cocaine was sent by post from Trinidad and Tobago. The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and produced before the special judge who remanded her to judicial custody for 14 days, they added.
