Delhi: Fashion designer, help murdered in Vasant Kunj, 3 arrested

A 53-year-old fashion designer and her servant were found dead inside the former's residence in the national capital's Vasant Kunj area last night.Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.The deceased have been identified as 53-yr-old Mala Lakhani and her 50-year-old servant Bahadur. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.Lakhani, used to run a boutique in Green Park area here."All three accused have confessed to their crime. One of accused Rahul Anwar was a tailor at the deceased fashion designer's workshop. He committed the crime with two of his relatives in an attempt to loot," Joint Commissioner of Police (CP) Ajay Chaudhary said.The crime scene has been preserved and the bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination, police said.

Family of Kathua victim drops lawyer, says she seldom came to court

The family of the eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Kathua has removed lawyer Deepika Rajawat as their advocate on record, saying she seldom appeared for hearings in the case, officials informed Thursday. The plea was moved Wednesday by the family before the court of district and sessions judge here which is hearing the case day-to-day following directions from the Supreme Court. The court has issued notice to Rajawat, asking her to respond to the plea moved by her clients by November 20, officials said. The father of the victim, who was identified and produced before the judge by advocate Mubeen Farooky, informed the court that he was withdrawing the agreement given in favour of Rajawat as she seldom appeared during the daily hearings which have been going on for the last five months. Malaysian ex-PM's wife hit with two new graft charges

The wife of Malaysia's toppled ex-leader was hit with two new corruption charges Thursday for allegedly accepting bribes worth 189 million ringgit (USD 45 million) to help a firm secure a government solar power contract. Rosmah Mansor -- widely reviled in Malaysia due to her penchant for lavish overseas shopping sprees -- has already been charged with money laundering and tax evasion related to a billion-dollar scandal that helped topple her husband's government at polls in May. Court documents showed the new charges related to Rosmah seeking and receiving payments in connection with a solar project in schools in the eastern state of Sarawak in 2016 and 2017. Rosmah, 66, pleaded not guilty to both charges and was freed on a 1 million ringgit bail. The court will fix the trial dates on December 10. Rosmah, who has already been hit with 17 charges of corruption and money-laundering, had faced fresh questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday. She faces up to 40 .

Telangana district court judge arrested in DA case

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested additional district judge of Ranga Reddy court Vaidya Vara Prasad and remanded him to 14-day judicial custody in connection with a disproportionate assets case.Prasad has been remanded to Chanchalguda central prison till November 28 following ACB recovering assets worth Rs 3 crore belonging to him during a raid conducted on November 14.According to Telangana's ACB Director General J. Purnachandra Rao, on the orders of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad on November 13, a case of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income was registered against Prasad under Sections 13(1)(b) r/w 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.As part of the investigation, the ACB conducted searches at the residences of Prasad at Saroor Nagar, Kondapur. Minor gang raped in UP

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men of her village here while she had gone out to attend nature's call, police said Thursday. The incident was reported to police by the girl's mother, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sriparna Ganguly said, adding an FIR was lodged in the matter. According to the FIR, the girl was raped by Bechan Singh (20) and Akash Singh (22) Tuesday night while she had gone out to attend nature's call, the SP said. The girl has been sent for medical examination, the SP said, adding the matter is being investigated.

Power firm sends VP, 4 others on leave over harassment plaint

The vice president (VP) of ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) is among five top-ranking officials who have been sent on "forced leave" following a complaint of sexual harassment by a former employee of the company, official sources said Thursday. A five-member committee, headed by a woman executive officer, is examining the case, an OTPC official said. "A high-level inquiry has been initiated into the complaint levelled by the former woman employee. All five accused officials, including a senior manager and the VP, have been sent on forced leave," he said. OTPC at Palatana in Kakrabon police station area of Gomati district is a 726-MW thermal power plant, catering to the entire northeast and neighbouring Bangladesh. Air hostess death: Viscera report confirms alcohol in blood

The viscera report of flight attendant Anissia Batra has pointed out that she was under the influence of alcohol when she allegedly committed suicide in July this year.The Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in its report has confirmed 298mg/100ml quantity of alcohol in Batra's blood sample.The Crime Branch has, however, emphasised that the findings of the report will make no difference in the investigation.On July 13, the Delhi-based air hostess had allegedly jumped off the terrace of her house after a heated argument with her husband Mayank Singhvi.Before her death, she had reportedly sent a message to her friend on WhatsApp, stating that she was allegedly locked up in a room by Singhvi. Man throws infant daughter in well after tiff with brother

A 32-year-old inebriated man in a village in Jhalawar district killed his three-month-old daughter by throwing her in a well following a scuffle with his brother over a domestic issue, police said Thursday. Om Prakash Bheel has been absconding since the incident in Maharajpura village Tuesday night, police said. The body of the infant was recovered from the well Wednesday morning., Piecing together events of that fateful night, SHO of the Manhorethana police station Pawan Meenasaid Bheel and his brother Chain Singh were drinking together when a fight erupted over a domestic issue. In a fit of rage, Bheel went to his hut nearby, picked up his sleeping daughter and threw her into the well, filled with water, about 15 metres away. His wife and other members of the family attempted to stop him but did not manage to do so, Meena said. Following a report by his wife, police have lodged a case of murder against Bheel.

Man dupes job aspirants by posing as govt servant, held

A 24-year-old man was arrested here for allegedly duping at least five job seekers of over Rs 9 lakh by posing as a government servant, police said on Thursday. The accused, identified Niraj Dinkar Sonawane, was arrested on Wednesday, police said. According to a police official, the accused promised placements to youths in different government establishments, including the Railways, Zilla Parishad, Passport department and the Public Works Department (PWD). "Police had got a tip-off that he is visiting the city on Tuesday evening. A revenue clerk was held for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a villager, police said Thursday. Naresh Chand of Labheda village had complained to an Anti Corruption Team that lekhpal Bhanu Pratap Singh of the Consolidation Department had allegedly demanded bribe from him for some work and a trap was laid to nab him, police said. District judge booked on graft charges in Telangana arrested

A fashion designer and her domestic help were allegedly killed by her tailor and his two accomplices in her home in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj Enclave locality following a dispute over unpaid dues, police said on Thursday. The bodies of 53-year-old Maya Lakhani, who ran a boutique called Tulsi Creations in Green Park, and her house help, 50-year-old Bahadur, were found with multiple stab injuries in the bungalow in the early hours of Thursday.
