Two persons riding a motorcycle lost their lives after being hit by a truck here, police said Sunday. The victims were identified as Rajesh Singh (35) and his friend Manoj Sharma (32), police said, adding that the accident occurred on Saturday evening. While Sharma died on the spot, Singh succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital, they said. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, police said.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Sunday lashed out at the BJP-led Maharashtra government over the "ghastly murder" of man-eating tigress Avni, calling it a "straight case of crime". Tigress Avni, who is believed to be responsible for the deaths of 13 people in the past two years, was killed in Maharashtra's Yavatmal on Friday as part of an operation. Avni is survived by her two cubs who are 10 months old. She was shot dead by sharp-shooter Asgar Ali, son of famous sharp-shooter Nawab Shafat Ali, at compartment no 149 of Borati forest under the jurisdiction of the Ralegaon police station. A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle in east Delhi's Shakarpur Sunday, police said. The girl had gone to her aunt's house, which was across the road from her place, where her uncle, 32, allegedly raped her, they said. She told her parents about the incident, following which police were informed, police said. A case was registered and the girl was sent for a medical examination, they said, adding that the man is absconding.
A fraudster, allegedly involved in issuing fake no-objection certificate (NOC) related to the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), was arrested after a four-year-long hunt here, police said Sunday. Ghulam Qadir, a resident of Diwar village of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, was arrested from Nikki Mohalla in Sidhra locality of the city Saturday,a spokesperson of the Crime branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said. He said Qadir was wanted in a case registered in 2014 under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code including cheating, forgery for purpose of cheating and using as genuine a forged document. "The accused is involved in issuing fake NOC relating to the JDA land located at Sidhra Majeen," he said.

A 15-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by two men who also recorded the video of the act and circulated it on social media, police said Sunday. The incident took place in Mathura village which comes under the jurisdiction of Charthawal police station. Two dreaded criminals with Rs 25,000 bounty each on their heads were arrested following an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police.The encounter took place on Saturday night in Muzaffarnagar district of the state.The arrested accused and two constables sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. A minor girl who was admitted in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital here was allegedly gang-raped by a hospital staffer and four unidentified men.A Singh, Superintendent of Police (City) said, "Victim narrated her ordeal after she was shifted to the general ward. A review petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday against a decision to reject Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif's bail plea.The former Punjab chief minister was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last month for his alleged involvement in the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.The PML-N chief had denied any wrongdoings and called the allegations as "baseless". Britain's prosecution service has agreed to pay undisclosed damages to US-born BBC broadcaster Paul Gambaccini over the way it handled unfounded sex abuse allegations against him. The Crown Prosecution Service says it and Gambaccini "have reached an agreement without admission of liability". A well-known music presenter, Gambaccini was arrested in 2013 and questioned by police investigating historical sexual abuse in the wake of revelations about the late BBC TV personality Jimmy Savile, a serial predator who abused hundreds of victims. The following year, prosecutors said he would face no charges. Gambaccini sued the prosecution service, saying authorities had not made clear that the allegations were baseless and had wrongly suggested that his accusers were underage. The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of apex court Secretary General Ravindra Maithani and two other judicial officers as judges of the Uttarakhand High Court.The other two officers are Narayan Singh Dhanik and Ramesh Chandra Khulbe.The decision to elevate the three judicial officers was made on the recommendation of the then Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court K M Joseph after three positions got vacated on May 29, 2018."Certain complaints against the recommendations made by the High Court Collegium and representations regarding non-recommendation of some senior Judicial Officers have been placed before us. The body of a 17-year-old girl with her throat slit was found at her friend's house in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area on Saturday, police said. The minor girl, a resident of the same area, was missing since Friday evening, they added. The victim's family had approached police on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday and a case was filed, a senior officer said. During investigation, it was learnt that the girl was last seen with a friend of hers, Sunny, he said. Officials then reached Sunny's house and found it locked. They broke in and discovered the body inside, Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest), said. A case was registered in this connection, police said, adding that Sunny was absconding.
A witness in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh alleged fake encounter case told a trial court here Saturday that Shaikh had killed former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya. The killing had allegedly been ordered by former Gujarat IPS officer D G Vanzara, the witness further claimed. Pandya was murdered in Ahmedabad in 2003. The witness -- name not disclosed -- said he met Shaikh in 2002 and became good friends with him and his wife Kausar Bi and his associate Tulsi Prajapati. "During that time, Sohrabuddin told me he had got money from D G Vanzara to kill Gujarat's home minister Haren Pandya and he completed the job. I then told him that what he did was wrong and he had killed a good person," the witness told the court. The witness further said that in 2005 he was arrested by Rajasthan police and lodged at Udaipur jail where he met Prajapati. A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly abandoning a newborn girl in south Delhi R K Khanna Stadium, police said Saturday. The accused, identified as Sajan Kumar of Sriniwaspuri, works at a pathological lab in Lajpat Nagar, they added. On October 31, a passerby informed traffic police constables about a newborn baby lying in the bushes and crying. Police rushed to the spot and rescued the baby, a senior police officer said. During investigation, police team scanned through CCTV footage of the area and checked records of nearby hospitals to find details about the newborns, he said. Police learnt that a woman visited Safdarjung Hospital and claimed herself to be the mother of the baby, he added. When police reached at the hospital, they identified the woman claiming to be the mother of the child and documents related to the child was recovered from her possession, the officer said. Family members of the girl, a student of class 10, did not like the affair and allegedly abducted the boy on Friday. They confined the teenager at a house in Kashiket village under Chouparan police station area and beat him up with lathis, police said.
