Rahul wanted to slander me, my father: Kartikey Chouhan to court

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's son Kartikey Chouhan submitted before a court here Saturday that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi deliberately linked him with the Panama Papers leak. Kartikey recorded his statement before Special Judge (for cases against MPs and MLAs) Suresh Singh in the defamation case filed by him against Gandhi. The court fixed December 17 as the date for submission of evidence in support of the complaint, Kartikey's lawyer Shrey Raj Saxena told PTI. Gandhi made the statement deliberately to defame Kartikey and his father who is the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh since 2005, Saxena quoted the chief minister's son as telling the court. The Congress chief clarified later that he named Kartikey out of confusion, but did not tender an apology, the lawyer told the court. 2 militants held with arms in Cachar district

Two suspected militants were arrested after public apprehended them and a cache of arms were recovered recovered from their possession in Cachar district, police said Saturday. According to Cachar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan, the suspected extremists were arrested on Saturday at Harinagar under Lakhipur sub-division. "This is a credit of the public. Actually, two unknown persons came from Dima Hasao with a bag and they were waiting for a bus to go to Silchar, but there was no vehicle because of bandh. Then some people noticed that they had rifle in their bag," Roushan said. The duo was beaten up by the public, he added. On being informed, a police team reached the spot and took them to Jaypur hospital. "The police recovered three AK-56, one Chinese LMG, one 12 bore single barrel rifle and one 5.56 mm Rifle. We are investigating the matter," the SP said.

Cops halt Shah Rukh's birthday party

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's birthday bash at a restaurant in suburban Mumbai was stopped by police in the early hours of Saturday for allegedly breaching the time limit. A police official said that restaurants in the city can not operate beyond 1 am, but the party was continuing well after that. Khan had reportedly called his close friends in the tinsel town for his53rd birthday celebrations at the swanky restaurant in Bandra. Loud music was playing when police came visiting, the official claimed. No case has been registered in this regard, he said.

TLP chief among 2,000 booked for rioting, disrupting peace in Pak

Pakistani Police on Saturday booked over 2,000 people, including the chief of a radical Islamist party, under terrorism and other charges of rioting, attempting murder and hurling threats in different parts of Punjab province during the three-day protests following the acquittal of Christian woman Aasia Bibi. "Eleven FIRs have been registered in Lahore alone against more than 1,500 people including Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi and patron-in-chief Pir Afzal Qadri under terrorism, attempted murder and other charges," Lahore police spokesperson Hammad Ahmad told PTI. Ahmad said 40 of them are nominated suspects. In all cases, police officials have become complainants, he added. Charge sheet filed against Sanjiv Bhatt in drug planting case

The Gujarat CID has filed a charge sheet against former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt and three others in connection with a 22-year-old case of alleged planting of drugs to frame a person. The investigating agency filed the charge sheet Friday in the court of additional sessions judge P S Brahmbhatt. Sanjiv Bhatt is currently in judicial custody. In the charge sheet, the CID has accused Bhatt of hatching a criminal conspiracy with his subordinate officers. Apart from the offence of criminal conspiracy under the IPC, the accused have also been charge sheeted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Then police inspector I B Vyas and head constable Malabhai Desai are co-accused in the case which dates back to 1996 when Bhatt was superintendent of police of Banaskantha district. Animal rights body PETA India Saturday said the killing of a tiger as part of an operation in Maharashtra should be investigated and treated as a wildlife crime and termed it a "dark day" for the nation. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India said the tiger Avni was killed "illegally to satisfy a hunter's lust for blood", in contempt of court and in apparent violation of the Wildlife Protection Act. Tigress Avni, believed to have been responsible for the deaths of 13 people in Maharashtra in the past two years, was shot dead in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra on Friday night as part of an operation, police said Saturday. TN man nabbed in theft case dies in hospital

A man, hailing from Tamil Nadu, who was taken into police custody in connection with an alleged theft case, died in hospital here Saturday, the police said. Swaminathan, a native of Tirunelveli district, was apprehended by locals Friday night from Kuttikatoor during an alleged burglary, they said. "We took him into custody at around 7 AM. He was taken to hospital as he was not fit. But he died at 1.10 PM," police said. Doctors said there were no external injuries on the body. "We have not received any complaint that he was assaulted when apprehended," a police official said. Autopsy would be conducted tomorrow after which the real cause of his death can be ascertained, he added.

Man booked in east Delhi for bursting old firecrackers

A 30-year-old man was booked for allegedly bursting firecrackers in east Delhi despite a Supreme Court ban on selling and burning of old stock, the first such case to be registered since the restrictions were enforced. Police were informed on November 1 by a neighbour of accused Damandeep that the latter was bursting old firecrackers, they added. The neighbour told police that despite repeated requests, Damandeep did not pay heed and continued bursting the crackers and even challenged them, a senior police officer said. Police officers collected the burnt firecrackers and carried out a forensic analysis which revealed that they were old, following which Damandeep was booked under section 188 of the IPC, he added. He was bursting so-called "Bijli bombs" and said that he bought those last year, the officer said, adding that police were investigating how he had managed to buy the crackers despite a Supreme Court ban on their sale. Damandeep is from Bihar and stays in Mayur Vihar Phase 3 .

Fake godman facing rape charges arrested by J-K police from UP

A self-styled godman was arrested Saturday after being on the run for the last nearly one month following rape charges levelled against him by a minor girl in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Swami Brahmanand Saraswati, a resident of Mathura, was arrested by a special team of Jammu and Kashmir Police from an ashram in Uttar Pradesh even as he had disguised his looks by shaving his head and the beard, a police spokesman said. Terming the arrest of the accused as a "major success", he said the fake godman had allegedly raped the girl in a village in Reasi district where he was putting up for the last 20 years and had made many followers. "The minor girl on October 6 reported the incident in police station Reasi along with her parents that Saraswati had committed rape on her and threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed it to anyone," the spokesman said, adding the minor girl delivered a female child which was stillborn on the same day. 2 suspected extremists carrying arms held

Two suspected extremists carrying a huge cache of arms and ammunition were beaten up by people and later arrested in South Assam's Cachar district on Saturday, police said. Three AK-56 rifles, one Chinese made Light Machine Gun, one 12 bore single barrel rifle and a 5.56 mm rifle, besides a huge quantity of assorted ammunition were seized from the two, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roshan told PTI. They were waiting for a bus at Harinagar in Lakhipur sub-division when local people noticed rifles in their bag and beat them up. Police said they rescued the two and admitted them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Crime Branch nabs 4 for mobile phone thefts in Mumbai, Guj

Mumbai Police's Crime Branch has arrested four members of a gang allegedly involved in stealing mobile phones in the metropolis and neighbouring Gujarat, an official said Saturday. The four were arrested from P D'Mello Road near Carnac Bunder in south Mumbai by the Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell and 35 high-end phones were recovered from them, the official informed. The accused hail from Jharkhand and were involved in mobile thefts in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Vapi in Gujarat, he said. Guj: Women home guards allege harassment by 2 senior officials

As many as 25 women home guards in the Surat city of Gujarat have accused two senior officials of harassment and seeking sexual favours, prompting an inquiry. The women approached city police commissioner Satish Sharma Friday with a written complaint. Sharma said a 'local complaints committee' set up under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act was looking into it. The complaint named two senior home guard officials, alleging that the duo subjected women to "mental, physical, sexual emotional and financial harassment", and even asked sexual favours from some of them. Two women injured in acid attack

Two women suffered burn injuries when unidentified bike-borne miscreants threw acid on them in Uttar Pradesh's Siddharthnagar district, police said. The women, aged 20 and 19, both residents of Biskohar Tola, were attacked on their way home around 9 pm Friday, they said. They suffered injuries to their face and upper part of the body and were rushed to a hospital from where doctors referred them to PGI Lucknow. Another woman who had rushed after hearing the screams also got injured when she came in contact with the two women and was also admitted to hospital. A case was registered against two unidentified miscreants in this connection but no one has been arrested so far, Trilokpur SHO Hari Narayan Dixit said, adding that a probe into the matter is on. UP cop suspended for sending lewd msgs to woman

An inspector posted in Kotwali Nagar police station has been suspended for reportedly sending lewd messages to a woman, an official said Saturday. Nand Kumar Tiwari has been suspended with immediate effect, Superintendent of Police Anurag Vats said. According to police, the woman belonging to Amethi district had first met Tiwari when he was posted in Kudwar police station in connection with a case. He started chatting with the woman on WhatsApp. The woman first took the messages and phone calls as merely concerning her case, but later the policeman started sending her indecent messages, police said, adding when she objected, the inspector threatened her. She complained about the behaviour of the police official to the IG and DIG recently after which Tiwari was suspended. An inquiry has also been ordered against the inspector, police added.
