A 20-year-old man was arrested from Buxar district in Bihar in connection with the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Gujarat's Surat, officials said Sunday. The accused Anil Yadav was arrested on Friday. He was produced before a magistrate in Buxar and taken to Gujarat on Saturday after a transit remand was obtained, Buxar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satish Kumar said. "Yadav was arrested under Dhansoi Police Station limits where a raid was conducted by the Gujarat police team, assisted by the local police. Although the accused was a resident of Itarhi Police Station area, he had been staying away from home," Kumar told PTI over phone. Filing multiple applications to seek identical information serving no public interest is misuse of the Right to Information Act, the Rajasthan Information Commission has said. Information Commissioner Ashutosh Sharma observed it in one of his recent orders, while quashing eight appeals by an activist, Gopiram Agarwal, who had allegedly sought similar information from Banswara Nagar Parishad through different applications. "The RTI is a weapon that Indian democracy has given to the common people. It has ensured transparency and accountability but its misuse would not be allowed as it affects people and the government's works," Sharma said in his order. Agarwal had filed 1,502 RTI applications to Banswara Nagar Parishad to seek information related to the development works by the civic body. A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death on Sunday after an altercation between them in Bhaluani village in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district, police said. The incident took place in the morning when Izharul had an altercation with his wife Salma Khatoon (30), they said. As the accused attempted to flee the spot after the incident, the villagers caught him and handed over to the police. Two men have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 23-year-old Nepali woman here, police said Sunday. Based on the survivor's complaint, the accused Lokesh Saini (19) and Kamal Saini (24) were arrested late Saturday night, said ACP Jaipur South K K Awasthi. The accused had allegedly gang-raped the woman on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, SHO Muhana Police Station area Devendra Kumar said. According to the plaint, the accused had tortured her following which she jumped nude from the third floor of an apartment in Muhana area to escape. The survivor is currently undergoing treatment at Jaipuria Hospital. Medical examination has been done and the matter is being investigated, the SHO added.
A truck driver was arrested with nearly 3,900 kg of'doda post' (a kind of opium), worth Rs 1 crore, under Sri Kolayat Police Station limits here, police said Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, barricades were set up on Bikaner-Jaisalmer Highway, they said. The police signalled a truck driver to stop at the post but he sped away, prompting the police to chase him, Bikaner SP Swai Singh Godara said. He said the accused driver Ramgopal Bishnoi, a resident of Jodhpur, was arrested however a car escorting the truck managed to escape the scene. The Crime Branch of the Kerala Police has registered cases against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and MP K C Venugopal, on a complaint of sexual misconduct filed by Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair. Confirming the development, Director General of Police (DGP) Loknath Behara said the cases against the two leaders were lodged on the basis of a complaint from Nair. A man has been arrested for allegedly taking cars from people to deploy them in the tourist circuit and then selling them in other states with forged documents, Thane police said Sunday. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wagle Estate division, P R Nilewad said Sunday that accused Ashfaque Noor Ahmed Siddiqui has several such cases against his name. He was in the custody of Dahisar police in Mumbai when Thane police, while investigating one such complaint by a local resident, zeroed in on Siddiqui, he said. His interrogation revealed that the modus operandi is to take cars from people for deployment as tourist vehicles after promising them good returns. He said that Siddiqui and his associates would stop contact with the victim once the car and its papers were handed over. They would then forge documents, change registration numbers as well as the colour of the vehicles and sell them in states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Police have arrested two men in connection with the alleged rape of a class ninth student in the Chhapra district of Bihar. A 55-year-old woman was beaten to death by her neighbours in Hinahu village in the Nawabganj area here due to old enmity, police said Sunday. Madhuri Devi and her son Pankaj were attacked by Sanjay Tiwari and his associates with sticks on Saturday night, senior police officer Shivji Shukla said. The central government has notified Sessions courts in 34 states and Union Territories, which will act as special courts for trial of offences under the benami transaction law. The court (s) of Session in the states and UT were notified after consultation with Chief Justices of respective High Courts under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 (45 of 1988) for the trial of offences punishable under the provisions of the Act, said a notification of Finance Ministry. In case of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Courts of Additional Sessions Judge 02 in each district have been designated as special court. The law prescribes that every trial should be conducted "as expeditiously as possible" and every endeavour should be made by the Special Court to conclude it within six months from the date of filing of the complaint.
