Man stabbed to death in Sultanpuri

A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death after his shoulder allegedly brushed against one of the accused during Dussehra celebrations in outer Delhi's Sultanpuri, police said Saturday. The deceased was identified as Naushad, they added. On Friday, Naushad had gone with a friend to attend Dussehra celebrations where he got into an argument with a man after his shoulder brushed against him since there was excessive crowd, police said. Later, the argument turned ugly and the man, along with his accomplices, stabbed Naushad twice in his neck and chest, they said. Naushad's friend rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead. Hunt is on to nab the accused, the police said.

Prosecutors slams Bill Cosby's defense lawyers

Prosecutors, who pronounced the prison term for American comedian Bill Cosby rebuffed latter's defense lawyer team's appeal for a new trial on Friday.According to Page Six, the prosecutors termed the defense team's attempts as "timeworn" and "meritless."Earlier in October, Cosby's defense team tried to argue that the comedian should get a new trial as his sentence was harsh in nature, and claimed that they had unearthed new evidence.The prosecutors said that the newly discovered piece of audio evidence had been doctored and that they were aware of its existence for 13 years. The legal representatives said that the claims do "not warrant evidentiary development" as several of them have already been rejected.Cosby's sentence came after a lengthy trial where he faced accusations from former Temple University employee Andrea Constand and was eventually found guilty. 9-yr-old Odisha boy killed for 'human sacrifice', 2 held

A nine-year-old boy from Bolangir district, whose decapitated body was found earlier this week, was a victim of human sacrifice, police said Saturday. Police have arrested two people for their alleged involvement in the brutal killing -- the boy's uncle and brother -- one of whom have confessed to the crime, they said. Titlagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saroj Mohapatra said the accused persons had sacrificed the boy to "appease goddess Durga for fulfilment of their wishes". "We had started investigation suspecting it to be a case of human sacrifice. During interrogation, one of the two accused persons confessed to the crime," Mohapatra told reporters. The incident took place on October 13 at Sundhimunda village which comes under the jurisdiction of Sindehekela police station in Bolangir district. Angry over frequent altercations with wife, man kills son

Infuriated by the persistent quarrels with his wife, a man allegedly strangulated to death his seven-year-old son here, police said on Saturday. The boy's body was found on Friday at his home in Baba Haridass Nagar area of Dwarka, they said. The victim's mother claimed that she had gone to the neighbour's house and upon returning, she found her son lying motionless with a piece of rope around his neck, police said, adding that the victim was wrapped in a blanket. The accused was under a debt of Rs two lakh and believed that his wife and son were the reason behind his financial troubles, they said. According to police, the accused had two children from his first marriage. Police said they have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused.

Four held in New Janakpuri murder case

The Delhi Police have solved and arrested four persons in the New Jankipuri murder case, in which a woman was shot dead on October 3, officials said Saturday. The arrested were identified as Shabuddin alias Shahid (30), Umardin alias Badru (27), Laeek Ansari alias Lucky (30), all residents of Palgarh district in Maharashtra, they said, adding that the fourth accused was Rifakat Khan (57) from New Janki Puri in Uttam Nagar here. On October 3, the police received information that a woman was rushed to a hospital in New Janki Puri area with gunshot wounds, later the woman was pronounced dead by the doctors. Later, Chhote Lal, the husband of the deceased, registered a case where he stated that three unknown men had murdered his wife Rekha at their home, after locking him and his children in a room. UP Guv approves renaming of Allahabad as Prayagraj

Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naik on Saturday approved the renaming of Allahabad as Prayagraj with immediate effect.The government notification issued by the District Magistrate of Prayagraj, Suhas L.Y. read that the Naik has approved the change of name of the existing Allahabad district to Prayagraj district."The name of the district has been approved by the governor under section 6, subdivision 2 of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006 (U.P. Act No.8 of 2012)," the notification read.The notification would not have any effect on the ongoing cases or legal proceedings in the court of law.It has also been directed that all the official activities would now be carried out under the new name, Prayagraj.On October 16, The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formally rechristened the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj.

Police foils loot bid in Greater Noida, 2 arrested

The Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Saturday claimed to have thwarted a major robbery attempt at a fuel station in Greater Noida after an encounter with assailants. Two of the three accused were arrested after the shootout near Sigma 4 area of Greater Noida, the police said. Following a tip off that the robbers were planning to target the fuel station, the police had stepped up vigil in the area, a senior official said. Parcel bomb case accused held; also involved in 1999 blast

A man held on Saturday for allegedly sending a parcel bomb to the owner of a private school at Upleta in Rajkot district of Gujarat was also behind a blast in 1999 which had killed two persons, police said. Nathabhai Dobaria (68) was arrested Saturday for allegedly sending a parcel bomb to the owner of Sri Krishna School, Vallabhbhai Dobaria, Rajkot (rural) Superintendent of Police Balram Meea said. The accused had an old dispute with Vallabhbhai over a house and he allegedly intended to kill him and his family, the SP said. "In 2006, Nathabhai sold a house to the Vallabhbhai. There was a dispute and the matter landed in court. Maha ACB nabs gram sevak for bribery in Gondia

A gram sevak in Maharashtra's Gondia district was Saturday nabbed for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a liqur shop owner, an Anti-Corruption Bureau official said. Gram sevak Punjab Lobha Chauhan (37) had allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from a liquor shop owner so that the latter's shop details would not be mentioned in the minutes of a meeting convened by Korambhitola gram panchayat to impose prohibition in the village, the ACB official said. Following a complaint, the ACB laid a trap Saturday at Arjuni Morgaon railway station and nabbed Chauhan when he accepted Rs 50,000 from the complainant, the official said. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further probe was underway, he said.

Monkeys kill elderly man, kin demands FIR

A 70-year-old man has allegedly been stoned to death by more than 50 monkeys in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district.Krishnapal Singh, the brother of the deceased, Brhampal told the media, "50 to 60 monkeys attacked my brother when he was collecting wood for havan outside our house... He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital."The family of the deceased submitted a written complaint regarding the incident at Bhagpat police station while demanding an FIR against the monkeys.Brhampal's body has been sent for postmortem.

GRP registers FIR in Amritsar train accident

The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday registered a case against unknown persons in connection with the Amritsar tragedy in which a train mowed down at least 59 Dussehra revellers. A case has been registered under sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC, a GRP official said. SHO of GRP railway station Amritsar Balvir Singh said the FIR has been registered against the unknown persons and names of the accused would be added in the FIR after investigation. "It is too early to say anything about the accused (or) who was responsible for the mass killing on railway track. But during the course of investigation, many facts and causes are expected to come to light. Notorious criminal, 2 aides nabbed after encounter with police

A criminal who has several cases registered against him and his aide were injured in an encounter with Navi Mumbai police in neighbouring Raigad district Saturday, a senior official said. Bullets fired by Faiyaz Khalid Shaikh, a history-sheeter, hit two police officers who escaped unhurt as they were wearing bulletproof jackets, police claimed. Shaikh and his two aides were arrested by police. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at Nadhal village in Khalapur tehsil, said Navi Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Tushar Joshi. No evidence against Bank of Maharashtra top officials: Police tell court

Pune police told a court here Saturday that it did not find sufficient evidence against top officials of the Bank of Maharashtra, arrested in connection with a cheating case against city-based developer D S Kulkarni. Maoists set ablaze nine vehicles

Alleged Maoists set ablaze nine vehicles of a construction company at Jhanpa in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district, police said on Saturday. The Jamshedpur-based construction company is engaged in the Rs 100 crore renovation work of the state-owned Baksha Dam irrigation canal, located about 7 km from here. Police said that about 30 masked men, suspected to be members of CPI-Maoists raided the Baksha irrigation canal area, locked in about 24 labourers and set ablaze the vehicles on Friday night, the police said. Seven trucks of the construction company were completely gutted, while two others were partially damaged, said superintendent of police Mayur Patel Kanhaiyalall after visiting the incident site. The attackers freed the labourers before leaving and ordered them to tell the police, if asked, that Maoists had damaged the properties, the SP said.
