A suspected arms supplier was arrested and 10 country-made pistols and 15 cartridges were seized, police said Saturday. The accused, identified as Mohabat Ali, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on October 14 from near Railway Bridge on Bhairon Marg in Pragati Maidan. He had come to deliver a consignment of illegal weapons to a local conduit of a gangster, police said. "Turkey will reveal whatever had happened. Nobody should ever doubt about it," said Omer Celik, spokesman for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the Anadolu news agency reported. Five alleged Nigerian drug peddlers were arrested and contraband worth Rs 2.58 lakh was recovered from them, an Anti Narcotics Cell official said Saturday. He said said that the five were in a cab Friday night when a patrolling team of the Azad Maidan unit of the ANC apprehended them on P D'Mello Road in south Mumbai. "A search of the car led to the seizure of cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy) and mephedrone worth Rs 2.58 lakh," the official said. He identified the five arrested persons as Johnson Ude Eme (44), Igvu Idam Felix (46), Ejike Godwil Olechikvu (35), Ernest Okoroji Ejime (28) and Chi Basil Oniagvesa (28). Three employees of a finance company in Bengaluru were booked for allegedly cheating a city-based builder to the tune of Rs 18 lakh, police said Saturday. The body of a young girl with her throat slit was recovered by police Saturday from near Begunia town in Khurda district. Though the deceased is yet to be identified, police suspected that the body might have been thrown on the Tikatala roadside under Begunia police limits. "We suspect the girl was killed at some other place and her body thrown near Begunia town. There is a deep slit mark on her throat," Khurda SP Dipti Ranjay Ray said. The SP clarified that there was no sign of sexual assault on the girl before her killing. "The post mortem report will reveal the nature of atrocity on the girl," Ray said. A special NIA court here Saturday rejected 2008 Malegaon blast case accused Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit's petition challenging the validity of the prosecution sanction for his trial under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Special NIA court judge Vinod Padalkar rejected his petition after hearing the arguments of Purohit and other accused in the case. The court has set October 26 as the next date of hearing in the case. The Bombay High Court had last month rejected Purohit's plea to restrain the trial court from framing charges against him and other accused in the case. The NIA court was set to frame the charges against him and others, but it was deferred after the accused raised objections over the validity of the prosecution sanction. A prior sanction for Purohit's prosecution was required since he was a serving Army officer at the time. The Gujarat Police has arrested one man suspected to be involved in the alleged rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in the state's Sabarkantha district. The suspect has been arrested from Buxar district in Bihar.As per reports, the girl went missing on October 13. A 70-year-old man was allegedly stoned to death by some monkeys in a village here, putting the police in a fix as the deceased's family wants an FIR to be registered against them. The incident took place on October 17 in Tikri village of the district. Circle officer Ramala Rajiv Pratap Singh told PTI that the deceased was sleeping near a pile of bricks when some monkeys jumped on the bricks. The pile of bricks collapsed and fell on Dharampal, leaving him injured. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed. Giving a different narrative, Krishnapal Singh, the brother of the deceased, in his complaint has said that Dharampal was collecting woods for a havan when he was attacked by the monkeys. Bricks were thrown at his head and chest, and he succumbed to injuries at the hospital. "We have submitted a written complaint against the monkeys, but the police is terming it as an accident," he said. He said they will now meet senior officials and request them to initiate action in this regard.
