A 24-year-old man allegedly killed his grandmother after a quarrel here in Maharashtra, a police official said Thursday. Umesh Kondilkar, a resident of Chamtoli village near Badlapur township here, used to have frequent fights with his grandmother Tarabai Kondilkar (70) over petty issues, he said. The duo again had a tiff over some issue late Tuesday night following which the man attacked the elderly woman with an axe, killing her on the spot, the official at the Badlapur police station said. Based on a complaint filed by a family member, the accused was arrested Wednesday and booked under IPC section 302 (murder), he added.
A 26-year-old man has been awarded life imprisonment by a court here in Maharashtra for killing a shopkeeper in 2013 over a petty dispute. According to the prosecution, the accused, Ganesh Raut, who worked as a labourer, went to a grocery shop in Lokmanya Nagar area here on June 21, 2013 and asked for a pack of cigarettes. When the shopkeeper, Gopal Pande (52), asked him for the money, Raut got annoyed and beat him up. Pande then filed a police complaint against Raut, who was arrested and later released on bail. On November 12, 2013, Pande's son was managing the shop when Raut came there with a blood-stained spade in his hand. Raut informed Pande's son that "he had killed his father". The accused also threatened Pande's son, beat him up and fled, the prosecution told the court. Pande's son later found his father lying severely injured at some distance from the shop. A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men after being forced to drink liquor at Nasirpur village in the district, police said Thursday. According to Station House Officer (SHO) Sube Singh, the woman was hired by two men to work as a labourer in a field. She was forced to drink liquor on Wednesday following which she was allegedly raped by these men, he said. The woman has been sent for a medical examination, police said. A case has been registered against the accused and a search is underway, they said.
The son of New York state's Prestige Limousine owner, Nauman Hussain, was taken into custody for four days after 20 people died in a crash involving one of the company's vehicle last week.Nauman is the son of Shahed Hussain, the owner of the limo company, who is currently in Pakistan. Suraj alias Sarnam Verma allegedly killed his father Mithilesh, mother Siya and sister in the early hours and then ransacked the house to make it look like robbery, they said. A 40-year-old woman was injured Wednesday after being shot allegedly by a man known to her at her residence in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar, police said. The incident took place at around 3 pm, police said, adding that the woman's husband and their four children were present inside the house at the time of incident. The victim, identified as Aarti, sustained a bullet injury and is being treated at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. She is under observation currently, they said. A 36-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his neighbour after he refused to lend him money to buy liquor in northeast Delhi's Welcome area, police said. The incident took place Monday night when the victim, Akil (55), and his friend Chaman were sleeping on the roadside of the locality, a police officer said. Suddenly, Nishad came there and asked Akil to lend him some money to buy liquor. When Akhil refused, a scuffle broke out between the two and as it turned ugly, Chaman fled the spot fearing for his life, he said. A 46-year-old businessman who was absconding for the last 19 years was arrested for allegedly duping a company of over Rs 16 lakh, police said Wednesday. The accused, identified as Ajay Kumar, was arrested from Patna in Bihar, they said. Based on a complaint filed on February 2, 1999, a case was registered at Okhla Industrial Area police station, they added. The complainant alleged that the accused cheated the company of Rs 16, 40,000 by submitting two forged demand drafts and taking computer parts worth the amount, a senior police officer said. A 26-year-old criminal, who carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head, was arrested on Wednesday after a brief exchange of fire in south Delhi's Lado Sarai area, police said. The encounter took place near Lado Sarai's Children's Park at 6 pm, they said. The accused, identified as Manjeet Dalal, is a sharp shooter of Neeraj Bawana and Amit Bhura gang, they added. Dalal was wanted in a case of firing at a popular Pishori restaurant in Lajpat Nagar.
