Citizens can report MCC violations on cVILGIL app: Raj CEO

Rajasthan Chief Electoral Officer Anand Kumar Monday said the citizens can report Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations through the cVIGIL application. He said the application is now operational in the state and by using it citizens can immediately report incidents of misconduct within minutes of them occurring. Further, there is no need to rush to the office of the returning officer to lodge a complaint, Kumar said. Addressing a meeting during the state-level cVIGIL app training exercise for election officers, Kumar said citizens with the application can click a picture or record a video of upto two minutes' of the scene of MCC violations. The photo or video is to be uploaded on the application. Using the geographic information system, the app can locate the scene of the violation. After the violation is successfully submitted, the citizen will get a unique ID to track the plaint and receive follow-up updates on his or her mobile. MP: 4 of family killed after truck overturns, lands on hut

Four members of a family were Monday killed and a minor girl injured after a sand-laden truck turned turtle and landed on their roadside hut in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district, police said. An official said that the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle near Taal Lidhora village on Jatara-Chandera road following which it overturned, killing four members of the family on the spot. Jatara police station in charge Brajesh Kumar identified the four deceased as Sher Singh (42), his wife Meera (40) and their sons Jigar (10) and Dilip (08). A minor girl who was injured is currently undergoing treatment at the Jatara community health centre, he added. Singh used to sell agricultural tools from his roadside hut, Kumar said. The driver of the truck fled the scene and efforts were on to nab him, the official said, adding that a case had been registered and the vehicle had been seized.

Wheelchair-bound elderly man caught by customs for gold smuggling at Delhi airport

A 68-year-old wheelchair-bound man has been arrested by customs officials at Delhi airport for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold worth about Rs 47 lakh, according to an official statement issued on Monday. The passenger was intercepted on his arrival from Dubai on Saturday. "A detailed personal and baggage search of the passenger resulted in the recovery of three gold bars of foreign origin, collectively weighing 1.4 kg," it said. The market value of the gold, which has been seized, is assessed to be Rs 47.4 lakh, the statement issued by the customs said. During further investigation, the passenger also admitted about having smuggled in three kg of gold bars, valued at Rs 83.29 lakh, during his previous visits, it said, adding that the accused has been arrested.

2 arrested for robbing man of car, mobile phone

Two men were arrested for robbing a man of his car and mobile phone at gunpoint after hiring his vehicle, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Nawada-resident Rohit alias Raman (29) Abhishek Singh (24), a resident of Bharthal, were arrested from southwest Delhi within an hour of filing of a complaint on Sunday, the police said. According to the complaint filed by Ajay Yadav, Rohit booked his car for a ride from Nawada to Jhajjar in Haryana. "He picked the passenger from Nawada and when he reached Bijwasan, Rohit threatened him with his country-made pistol and asked him to follow his instructions. "Rohit took Yadav to Jhajjar, Rohtak and Kharkhoda in Haryana. Later he asked Yadav to take him to an area near Palam Airport where one of his associates met and boarded the car. Thereafter, the accused persons pushed Yadav out of the car and robbed his mobile and sped away towards Chhawala," a senior police official said. Pak SC hears final appeal against execution of Asia Bibi

Pakistan's Supreme Court Monday started hearing the final appeal against the execution of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death in a blasphemy case. Asia Bibi was accused of committing blasphemy in 2009 and was convicted in 2010. Her appeal against the death sentence was rejected by the Lahore High Court. She had filed the final appeal to the Supreme Court against the original conviction. A special three-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel took up the appeal of mother of five against the execution. Asia Bibi's lawyer Saiful Mulook briefed the court that the case based on verbal clash between Bibi and a group of Muslim women was filed by a prayer leader of Katanwala in Nankana Sahib. NGT refuses to vacate 2015 order against construction on Yamuna floodplains in Agra

The National Green Tribunal has refused to vacate its 2015 order restraining construction and transfer of possession of flats on Yamuna floodplains in Agra after two builders sought lifting of the ban. A bench headed by Justice R S Rathore said that even if the builders have transferred the flat to the purchasers, it does not entitle them to file an application for vacating the interim order passed in the year 2015 as the matter is still pending. "After considering the aforesaid application as well as the reply filed to it by the original applicant, we are of the considered opinion that there is no just reason to grant any of the reliefs prayed by the applicant at this stage," the bench said. State consumer commission to re-consider medical negligence case against Ganga Ram hospital: NCDRC

The apex consumer commission has asked the Delhi state fora to re-consider a case of alleged medical negligence against Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here, which resulted in the death of a patient. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) was hearing an appeal against the Delhi state consumer commission's order which said the case does not come under its jurisdiction. The appeal was filed by Maharashtra resident Vimla against the hospital and a doctor employed there, claiming that his illegible writing led to a pharmacist issuing the wrong medicine which allegedly resulted in the death of her husband Shiv Narayan Gupta. "We do not agree with the state commission's observation that 'this is not a consumer dispute.' Bulgarian police probe killing of Bulgarian TV journalist

Bulgarian police are investigating the rape and slaying of a television reporter and presenter whose body was dumped near the Danube River. Authorities discovered the body of 30-year-old Viktoria Marinova in the town of Ruse, northern Bulgaria, on Saturday. Police said she had been brutally beaten, raped and strangled. Her body was found in a park near the river. Interior minister Mladen Marinov said Monday there was no evidence to suggest the killing was linked to Marinova's work. "It is about rape and murder," he said. Bulgarian police, however, say they are working on all possible scenarios, examining possible links to both her personal and professional life. Illegal hoardings: Bombay HC issues notice to BJP corporator

The Bombay High Court Monday issued notices to a BJP corporator from suburban Andheri and seven of his supporters seeking to know why civil and criminal action should not be initiated against them for allegedly assaulting a civic official when he was removing an illegal hoarding in the area. A division bench of Justices A S Oka and M S Sonak was hearing an application filed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seeking action against corporator Muraji Patel and his supporters for contempt of court. According to the civic body, Patel and others obstructed officials implementing the high court's order on illegal hoardings. Watchman killed woman after she refused to establish physical relations with him and his friend

A 40-year-old watchman was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing a woman after she refused to establish physical relations with him and his friend in Shahdara's Vivek Vihar area, police said. The accused was identified as Sushil and is a resident of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, they said. During interrogation, Sushil confessed to the crime and told the police that he along with his friend killed the woman after she objected to establish physical relations with both of them, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said. 1, 495 stranded children rescued this year: Rly ADGP

A total of 1,495 children stranded in various railway stations in Tamil Nadu has been rescued and handed over to their parents this year as against 1,940 rescued in 2017, assistant director general of police (Railways) C Sylendra Babu said Monday. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a one-day workshop organised by the railways on 'Crime Against Women and Children in Railways: Investigation Skill and Development for Men and Women in Railways. Mexican couple found with body parts are suspects in 10 murders

A Mexican couple arrested outside Mexico City while transporting human body parts in a baby carriage are now suspected of killing 10 women, prosecutors said Sunday. Let SC deal with only specialised subjects: N Santosh Hegde

The Supreme Court should be the last court only for specialised subjects like interpretation of the Constitution, and not for every litigation, retired SC judge N Santosh Hegde has said.
