Three people were killed in Rajasthan's Nagaur district after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by an unidentified vehicle, police said on Sunday. The trio was headed to Inana from Nagaur last night when an unidentified vehicle hit them near Khel Maidan, they said. Hanuman Ram Nayak (40) and Sampat Meghwal (35) died on the spot, while Hanuman Nayak (27) died on the way to hospital, the police said. The bodies were handed over to their family members after a post-mortem examination and a case has been registered against the driver of unidentified vehicle, who is absconding, at Mundwa police station, they said.
The body of a seven-year-old Muslim girl was found on the rooftop of a mosque situated at Murad Nagar here on Sunday.Prima facie investigation revealed that the girl was strangled to death, according to Ghaziabad's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).The suspect, as alleged by the deceased girl's kin, also belongs to the Muslim community.Superintendents of Police (SP), Circle Officer (CO) and Station Officer (SO) rushed to the spot to look into the murder.
A 36-year-old man was shot dead and his wife injured when some unidentified assailants opened fire on them in the Bawana area of Rohini, police said Sunday. The incident occurred at around 8.40 pm on Saturday. The assailants shot at Amit and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, the police said. His wife Jyoti (34) also received a gunshot injury on the right side of the waist, they added. She was admitted to the Saroj Hospital near Madhuban Chowk, where her condition was stated to stable. The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the police said. Jyoti has two children from her first marriage and she left her first husband Satpal nine years ago, they added.
Two jail officials were suspended while the service of a jail warden was terminated after two prisoners, serving life imprisonment, manage to escape from a prison in the northeastern China's Liaoning province, according to a media report Sunday. Wang Lei, 33, and Zhang Guilin, 39, manage to escape on Thursday from No 3 Prison in the city of Lingyuan in the Liaoning province. "They were caught by police on Saturday in north China's Hebei Province," the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday. Wang was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for kidnapping. In December 2017, his death sentence was commuted to a life sentence. Zhang was serving a life sentence for robbery. The warden of the prison has been terminated from his position and ordered to cooperate with the investigation, the report said. President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to a bill which will help tackle sexual offenders, cybercriminals and traditional unlawful acts like bootlegging and dacoity in Telangana, officials said Sunday. The Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Dacoits, Drug-Offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Land-Grabbers (Amendment) Bill, 2017 will replace a 1986 Act which had jurisdiction for the undivided Andhra Pradesh but could not punish offenders of present-day white-collar crimes or financial frauds. The President has given assent to the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Dacoits, Drug-Offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Land-Grabbers (Amendment) Bill, 2017, a Home Ministry official said. The legislation is one of the showpiece laws of the outgoing K Chandrashekar-led TRS government which faces Assembly elections soon. A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Uttar Pradesh government to amend the law to bring the office of Chief Minister under the purview of state ombudsman, Lokayukta. The plea said that the existing status of the 'Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, 1975' does not make the ombudsman "powerful enough to serve the purpose and object for which it was enacted". The PIL, filed by advocate Shiv Kumar Tripathi, has sought a direction for amending the 43-year-old state law to bring the Chief Minister under purview of the ombudsman to ensure effective control over corrupt activities. "The Lokayukta of the state of Uttar Pradesh is not competent to proceed against the Chief Minister for any corrupt action in which he has been found guilty of favouritism, nepotism or lack of integrity therefore there is need to bring the Chief Minister under the purview of Lokayukta for proceeding against him for his corruption," it said. The police here have booked 21 people, including a village head, in connection with an alleged incident of eve-teasing. According to Circle Officer Ram Mohan Sharma, the accused, including Nempal Singh, the village head of Sikanderpur, were booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of a complaint from a girl's family. Those named in the complaint were accused of teasing the girl and beating up her family members when they objected to it, Sharma said. The case against the 21 people was lodged after the family members of the girl staged a protest in front of the sub-divisional police officer's (SDPO) office.

A 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men in Budhana town in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday. The incident took place Saturday when the woman, who was waiting for a bus to return to her village, was given a lift by the three accused, who took her to a forest area and raped her, Station House Office (SHO), Budhana, Jai Bhagwan said. On the basis of a complaint from the woman, a case was registered against the three accused who were absconding, he said, adding that the victim was sent for a medical examination. According to the complaint lodged by the victim, she had come to Budhana from her village, Phugana, and was given a lift by the three men on their motorcycle on her way back. After forcibly taking her to the forest area, the three men took turns to rape her and threatened her with dire consequences if she narrated her ordeal to anyone, she stated in the complaint.

A principal of a Odisha school was arrested on Saturday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl student.According to the complaint filed by the victim's parents, the accused summoned the minor girl, who is a class 5th student in his office during recess and demanded her to massage his legs. The body of a 42-year-old woman was found near a vacant house in Shahdara's Vivek Vihar area on Saturday, police said. The deceased was identified as a resident of neighbouring Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh they said. Upon receiving information about the body at 9.25 am, a team was sent to the spot, a senior police officer said. During investigation, police learnt that the owner of the house did not reside there while the watchman who looked after it was missing. Identified as Sushil, 40, the caretaker hails from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, police said. A court here on Saturday asked the prosecution to file its reply on bail applications of activists Sudha Bharadwaj, Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira, arrested for alleged Maoist links, on October 10. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday attached two immovable assets worth Rs 5.4 crore of Gagan Dhawan involved in money laundering in Sterling Biotech case. The properties are situated in Faridabad and Gurgaon.Dhawan was arrested by the ED in 2017 for the offense of money laundering with respect to Rs. 5000 crore bank loan fraud. He is accused of assisting and facilitating Nitin and Chetan Sandesara, directors and promoters of the Gujarat-based pharmaceutical company Sterling Biotech group, who are also accused in the said bank loan fraud case.The ED in its investigation has revealed that funds amounting to Rs. 5.4 crore were diverted from loan funds by Sandersaras and given to Dhawan. The latter utilized these proceeds of crime to purchase and develop the said attached properties. A 25-year-old woman from Yawatmal was arrested by the Thane police Saturday for allegedly abducting a two-year-old girl from Mumbra near here. The girl was returned safely to her parents. As per the police, Anjali, the accused, was about to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train at Kalyan railway station around 5 AM on September 29 when the child's father, who had arrived at the station from Jalgaon, stopped her. She allegedly told him that she had been driven out of her house and had nobody to support her. The man took her to his house in Mumbra where Anjali began to live with the family. On October 4, the man's mother asked Anjali to take the girl out and buy her a packet of wafers. Anjali left the house with the girl and allegedly did not return, police said.
