Interpol asks China for clarification on its missing chief

The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) has officially demanded a clarification from China on the disappearance of Chinese Interpol president Meng Hongwei.Euronews quoted the statement by Interpol as saying, "INTERPOL has requested through official law enforcement channels clarification from China's authorities on the status of INTERPOL President Meng Hongwei. INTERPOL's General Secretariat looks forward to an official response from China's authorities to address concerns over the President's well-being."The Interpol chief has been missing since travelling to China in late September. Man stabbed to death after his auto brushes past pet dog

Three men allegedly stabbed a 40-year-old man to death after his auto-rickshaw brushed past a pet dog in Dwarka's Mohan Garden area, police said Saturday. The dog belonged to one of the accused. Police said the incident, in which the deceased's elder brother was also injured, took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Vijender Rana was stabbed and rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. His injured brother Rajesh Rana (45) was admitted to the same hospital but later referred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, a senior police officer said. The three accused identified as Ankit, his brother Paras and his tenant Dev Chopra have been absconding since the incident took place. Based on the statement of Vijender Rana's wife Seema, a case was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station, he said. Police arrests two Maoists in Jharkhand

Two wanted Maoists including a woman were arrested by police in Jharkhand's Giridih district, a senior police officer said Saturday. Two Maoists - Sonaram Marandi and Badki Devi alias Geeta were arrested in the raid conducted by police in Pirtand area on Friday, Superintendent of Police, Surendra Kumar Jha said. Both the Maoists had allegedly triggered blast in the SIS security guards vehicle in the district in 2010, which had claimed lives of four security guards, the SP said.

Gang which cheated job-seekers busted, six held from Noida

With the arrest of six persons from Noida near Delhi, the Mumbai police claimed Saturday to have busted a racket which duped job-seekers. A team of Cuffe Parade police station raided the office of a Noida-based firm, 'All India Networking Faculty Icon, in Noida Friday, said a police official here. Those arrested were identified as Devrishi Sharma (24), Vikrant Giri (25), Jaydeep Shastri (29), Shashank Dubey (28), Sonal Rana (35) and Manoj Tiwari (32). Rana and Tiwari had earlier worked for some leading job portals, from which they allegedly obtained data of job-seekers from across India, the official said. The data was provided to Shashank Dubey, the owner of the firm. Using this data, candidates were called from a call-centre running from Noida. Man arrested for pushing mother in bathroom, killing her

A 23-year-old model was arrested for allegedly pushing his mother during a scuffle, leading to her death, police said Saturday. Oshiwara police said that Lakshya Singh was arrested Friday in connection with the death of his mother Sunita Singh (45). The two, along with the accused's fiancee, stayed in a rented flat in Cross Gate building in Lokhandwala area. The accused was produced in court Saturday which remanded him in police custody till October 8. Initial investigations have revealed that mother and son were addicted to drugs, said Shailesh Pasalwad, senior inspector, Oshiwara Police Station. Sr official of NIC arrested by CBI for accepting bribe

: A senior official of National Insurance Company at nearby Eluru was arrested by CBI while accepting Rs 19,000 as bribe from a man to settle a long pending insurance claim, the agency said here Saturday. K S Raj, Divisional Manager of NIC, Eluru, was nabbed while accepting the bribe from a man to settle the claim of Rs 60,000 for his four wheeler, the agency said in a release. Raj would be produced before the Principal Special Judge Court forCBI cases, Visakhapatnam, it said. The complainant's four wheeler met with an accident in 2013 and he claimed around Rs 1.33 lakh from the insurance company. But NIC fixed it at Rs 69,000. The Insurance company official allegedly demanded a bribe of 19,000 to reopen the file and settle the claim. The man then lodged a complaint with the CBI here, which laid a trap and arrested Raj while he was receiving the bribe, the release said.

Advocate fails to appear before IGP

The advocate who was allegedly assaulted by some policemen here on August 28 triggering the ongoing month-long lawyer agitation in the state, did not appear before the crime branch IGP Arun Bothra on Saturday, officials said. Advocate Devi Prasanna Patnaik has sought for some more time to respond to the summon notice as he is unwell, they said. "The advocate is named as accused in at least three FIRs. He was summoned for questioning on the day. Since he is unwell and has sought for some more time, we will allow him the time," said IGP Arun Bothra, who has been entrusted by the Supreme Court to investigate into all the four FIRs registered soon after the unsavoury incident. Taimoor Nagar murder: 2 more cops suspended

SC allows DU student who missed exams due to pregnancy to attend classes

The Supreme Court has allowed a law student of Delhi University, who missed classes due to pregnancy, to attend classes for the next semester.Ankita Meena wasn't allowed to write her fourth semester exams of the three-year LL.B. course as she failed to attend mandatory number of classes due to pregnancy.A bench of Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice AM Khanwilkar issued a notice to the Delhi University on a plea filed by Meena. EC asks Law Min to clear format for candidates to advertise criminal records

The Election Commission (EC) plans to implement in the five poll-bound states the Supreme Court direction asking all candidates to advertise their criminal records. "We have suggested changes in the form of affidavit to the Law Ministry based on the Supreme Court order on decriminalising politics," Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat said Saturday. He said the changes will be made applicable. Candidates as well as parties will have to advertise three times in print as well as electronic media about the criminal records, Rawat said. The Supreme Court had recently said that candidates contesting polls should repeatedly advertise their criminal antecedents in print and electronic media after filing nomination papers so that the people can make an informed decision. Guj: Dy CM writes to chief justice for speedy trial in rape

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel Saturday said that he has written to Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy of the Gujarat High Court seeking speedy trial in the rape case of a 14-month old girl. On September 28, a 14-month-old girl was allegedly raped in a village near Himmatnagar town, around 100 km from Ahmedabad. One Ravindra Sahu, a labourer hailing from Bihar working in a local ceramic factory, was arrested the same day and charged with the toddler's rape. Taimoor Nagar killing: Former New Friends Colony SHO suspended

The Delhi Police has placed under suspension a former New Friends Colony police station SHO who was line-attached after the killing of a man in the Taimoor Nagar locality last week. Inspector Sushil Kumar, the then SHO of New Friends Colony police station, was suspended from service on Saturday for misconduct and negligence in duty, Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), said. An executive officer and a Khilafwarzi (violation) inspector of Thanamandi Municipal Committee were among several officials booked for illegal appointments in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said Saturday. Bank fraud: ED attaches Rs 5.4-cr assets in Gujarat pharma firm case

The Enforcement Directorate said Saturday it has attached assets worth Rs 5.4 crore in connection with its probe in an alleged Rs 5,700-crore bank loan fraud case linked to a Gujarat-based pharmaceutical company. The attached immovable properties, one each in Faridabad and Gurgaon, belong to Delhi-based businessman Gagan Dhawan, who was arrested by the ED and is out on bail. A provisional order for attachment of the assets was issued by the agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). A similar order was passed against Dhawan by the agency in the past. Bombay HC grants bail to I-T officer accused of raping minor

The Bombay High Court has granted bail to a 42-year-old Income Tax officer arrested earlier last month on charges of raping his minor domestic help. A single bench presided by Justice P D Naik Friday granted bail to I-T Deputy Commissioner Virbhadran Vislawath. The bench took note of the argument made by Vislawath's counsel, Sujay Kantawalla that the police had already questioned him and he was cooperating with the officers probing the case. Thus, further custody for interrogation was not required. The bench, however, directed Vislawath to report to the Gamdevi police station on the first Saturday of every month till further orders, and to attend court hearings in the case. Vislawath was arrested and remanded in police custody on September 7 this year for allegedly raping, sexually assaulting and threatening to kill his domestic help.
