Two men were arrested and a minor was detained for allegedly killing a beggar on suspicion of being a child-lifter in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said Tuesday. The incident took place on May 27 at Pendridih village, but the accused were apprehended Monday after the incident came to light, Lemru police station house officer (SHO) Ramlal Maravi said. The accused were identified as Manturam (19) and Kunwar Sai (22). The third accused is a 17-year-old youth. On May 27, the victim, around 45 years old and yet to be identified, was begging for food outside a house when the accused saw him. Claiming that he could be a child-lifter, they said nobody should give him food, SHO Maravi said. Apex consumer body NCDRC has dismissed Mercedes-Benz India's appeal against a state commission's direction to pay Rs 2 lakh to a Chandigarh resident for constant defects in the luxury car he bought from the company four years ago. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) upheld the Chandigarh State Commission's order relying on an expert report by three professors of Punjab Engineering College who said the problem in the vehicle had not been removed. The commission's Presiding member V K Jain said the vehicle in question was a Mercedes which is expected to run smoothly as the owner paid Rs 37 lakh for it. Apex consumer commission NCDRC has directed IOCL and its dealer to pay over Rs 12 lakh compensation to the next of kin of a woman who died in a cylinder explosion, saying the accident occurred due to manufacturing defect. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) held IOCL and Alok Gas Agency liable for the gas cylinder explosion which claimed the life of Neena Jhamb, a housewife, and seriously injured her mother-in-law. The commission said the onus was on Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) to conduct inquiry into the defect as there was no evidence of negligence by the consumer. A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl in Rohini, police said Tuesday. The accused had asked the mother of the minor girl to marry him but his proposal was rejected. To pressurise her into marriage, the accused decided to kidnap the nine -year old girl, police said. The minor girl went missing on Sunday afternoon after she had gone to a neighbourhood shop to fetch eggs. The accused - Kamlesh was arrested along with the girl from Mahoba railway station in Uttar Pradesh. Around 12 police teams comprising of 75 personnel of four police stations worked to trace the missing girl, police said. The Central Bureau of Investigation has closed a case of disproportionate assets against IAS officer Jyoti Kalash, which was registered in 2008. The probe against Kalash, a 1990-batch, Nagaland cadre officer, was closed by the CBI as the accusations in the FIR against him could not be substantiated by the agency during its exhaustive probe. The agency had submitted its closure report to the Patiala House Court which was accepted on July 18, 2011, according to the court order. The case pertained to a CBI FIR against the officer in 2008 in which the agency had alleged that he had amassed illegal wealth of Rs 37 lakh.

A 2017 online video showed Khangua Ren, who goes by the nickname ReSet on social media, replacing the cream in between chocolate cookies with toothpaste and giving them to a homeless person in Barcelona. In the video, Ren then addresses the audience saying that his prank would help the victim keep cleaner teeth. A 38-year-old man was allegedly killed Tuesday by unidentified persons who slit his throat in Antop Hill area, police said. The incident occurred around 2.30 am when the victim, Anand Narayan, was alone in his seventh floor residence in Panta Galaxy building, a police official said, adding that neighbours of Narayan alerted police after hearing his cries for help. Narayan was found lying in a pool of blood at his residence, following which he was rushed to Sion hospital where he was declared dead before admission, the official added. "As of now, we have registered a case of murder against unidentified persons," Antop Hill police station senior inspector Rajiv Whaval said. He said the motive behind the crime is being investigated. Officials of the Food and Civil Supply Department were left embarrassed after a porn clip played in the middle of a meeting here. The meeting was chaired by Mugdha Singh, the secretary of the department, at the NIC room in the secretariat on Monday. "In the middle of the video conference, an obscene clip started playing on the screen. I immediately called the NIC director and asked him to probe the matter and give a report on this," she told PTI. Sinha informed that nearly ten people, department officials and NIC representatives, were present in the room and district supply officers from all the 33 districts of the state were participating in the meeting through video conference. A youth was injured allegedly when a police officer fired at him during an altercation with his father in Tarsali area here in Gujarat, police said Tuesday. The incident occurred Monday night when sub-inspector S V Chudasama, who was in civil dress, had a heated exchange with Manilal Prajapati who owns a paan stall in the area, a police official said. When Prajapati's son Simit tried to intervene and asked Chudasama to show his identity card, the latter flew into rage and allegedly fired four rounds from his service revolver, he said. Simit received bullet injuries in his stomach and legs, he said, adding that he was rushed to private hospital by locals who gathered at the spot while the PSI fled. A convict in a murder case, who has been on run since he jumped parole in 2005, has been arrested from Thane district of Maharashtra, police said Tuesday. Interestingly, the convict, identified as Eknath Mukne was found to be hiding in the village of his in-laws in the same district. Mukne was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1999 by the district court for hacking his uncle to death in 1997 over a property dispute, said Nitin Thakre, senior police inspector, Crime Unit I. Mukne had been lodged at the Yeravada central prison in Pune, before he was granted parole for 15 days in 2005. Parole is the conditional release of prisoners before they complete their sentence. As he failed to return, a case was registered against Mukne at Padgha police station under section 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
