The government on Tuesday said about 11,000 exporters avail the benefits under the interest equalisation scheme to get credit at concessional interest rates. Interest equalisation has been an important policy instrument, especially for MSME exporters, for bringing down the higher cost of credit incurred by Indian exporters vis-a-vis their foreign competitors, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. In India, the repo rate stands at about 6.25 per cent, with exporters bearing interest rates ranging between 8 to 12 per cent or even more, depending on the spread and risk assessment of the borrower by the Authorised Dealer Banks. In competing countries, the interest rate is very low. For instance, the central bank rate in 2025 is 3.1 per cent in China, 3 per cent in Malaysia, 2 per cent in Thailand, and 4.5 per cent in Vietnam. Premium kitchen solutions provider Carysil plans to invest Rs 500 crore to increase manufacturing capacity of kitchen sinks, faucets and appliances segment as part of its long-term growth strategy in India, according to a statement by the company. Under the programme, Carysil has earmarked Rs 100 crore to double its sink manufacturing capacity from 1 million to 2 million units per year, it said. Another Rs 50 crore will be invested for expanding its stainless steel sink production to 2.5 lakh units annually, the company added. To enhance kitchen faucet production to 50,000 units per year, Rs 30 crore will be invested and another Rs 20 crore towards manufacturing 50,000 built-in kitchen appliances per annum, the statement said. The government has disbursed Rs 14,020 crore under Production-Linked Incentive schemes for ten sectors, including electronics and pharma, since the launch of the support measure to boost domestic manufacturing, an official statement said on Saturday. The government is ready with an outline of next phase of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and discussions are on internally for its rollout, a senior government official said on Thursday. Speaking at IESA Vision Summit, Ministry of Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said the government is also mulling supporting ambitious chip design projects in the country as well as semiconductor packaging designs. "The next stage of ISM is in the works. We have had discussions, discussions with many of the stakeholders, including many amongst you, as to how to design the programme. The design and the outline is ready, and there's undergoing detailed discussions internally in the government," he said.
