More than 80 critical issues resolved during 20th MSDC meet in Goa

More than 80 critical issues between the Centre, states and Union Territories were resolved during the 20th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) that concluded in Goa on Friday. As per an official release, the two-day event saw the resolution of critical issues focused on port infrastructure modernisation, connectivity, statutory compliances, maritime tourism, navigation projects, sustainability, and port security. During the 20th MSDC, more than 100 issues from various states were deliberated and successfully resolved, it said. "Several new and emerging challenges were also addressed, including the establishment of places of refuge (PoR) for ships in distress, the development of radioactive detection equipment (RDE) infrastructure at ports to enhance security, and the facilitation of seafarers by recognising them as key essential workers, ensuring better working conditions and access to shore leave," the statement added. Global maritime summit attracts investments worth Rs 2.37 trn on day-2

The Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) has attracted investment proposals worth of Rs 2.37 lakh crore on second day of the three-day event with the signing of as many as 70 initial pacts, according to a release. These Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed in the areas of port development and modernisation, green hydrogen and ammonia, port-led development, business and commerce, shipbuilding, knowledge sharing and port connectivity in the presence of the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and others. "The Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 has ushered a new age in sustainable development of the country with a record number of 70 MoUs with an investment of Rs 2.37 lakh crore. "The maritime sector is playing an instrumental role, as it has paved the way for India to set sail towards Green Sustainability Transportation," Sonowal said. Sonowal also held Ministerial level bilateral meetings with Ministers from Italy, Tanzania and Sri Lanka.

34 pacts worth Rs 3.24 trn signed on Day 1 of Global Maritime India Summit

As many 34 agreements worth Rs 3.24 lakh crore were signed on the first day of the three-day Global Maritime India Summit, which was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing. The signing of these pacts underlined the commitment of various stakeholders to transform India into a maritime powerhouse, the shipping ministry said. Global Maritime Summit: VPA inks deals with NHAI, Trion worth Rs 1,400 cr

The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Tuesday entered into agreements with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Trion Properties to execute projects worth Rs 1,400 crore. The port authority inked these deals at the ongoing Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 in Mumbai. VPA exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NHAI. As Part of this MoU, NHAI will develop the existing four-lane road into a six-lane one from convent junction to Sheela Nagar. For this, VPA is spending nearly Rs 500 crore, the port authority said in a press release. Similarly, VPA signed an agreement with Trion Properties to develop convention centres, IT office towers and hospitality facilities at an outlay of Rs 900 crore. Further, the port authority has signed a deal with the Indian Navy to develop more facilities in the outer harbour. VPA has set up a stall at the Global Maritime India Summit, 2023.

Govt expects investment worth Rs 3.39 trn during Maritime India Summit

The government is aiming to attract investment worth Rs 3.39 lakh crore during Maritime India Summit 2021 in various projects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Maritime India Summit 2021 (MIS 2021) on Tuesday, which will be held virtually and is likely to be participated by many nations, including Russia, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Denmark, Iran, Afghanistan, and Armenia. "The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) is in process of finalising more than 487 MoUs for investments worth approx Rs 3.39 lakh Crore," the government said in a statement on Monday. These are likely to be signed during the second edition of the Maritime India Summit to be held from March 2 to 4.
