IIT Madras develops app for efficient, easy inter-city goods transportation

Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, have developed a mobile application for easier and efficient transportation of goods within cities, and eliminating the role of middlemen. Called 'OptRoute', the app connects a consumer with a driver sans any commission or on-boarding fee. The payment from the consumer goes directly to the driver, with no intermediaries. The first version of the App has been developed and commercialised through OptRoute Logistics, an IIT Madras-incubated start-up co-founded by N.S. Narayanaswamy, Professor at Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras and Anuj Fulia, an IIT Madras alumnus. The DMRC on Wednesday unveiled a Hindi version of its Delhi Metro Rail mobile application that includes features such as interactive route maps, advanced station search options, real-time first and last train time calculators, and next and nearest station alerts. The app was so far only available in English, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. This launch comes as a testament to DMRC's commitment to the Digital India initiative, aimed at providing government services electronically with improved online infrastructure and inclusivity, it said. The Educational Testing Service (ETS), which conducts the English testing exam TOEFL, on Wednesday launched a mobile application for test takers to prepare for the new and shorter version of the examination. As the shorter TOEFL iBT test goes live on July 26, test takers registering for the same can now prepare themselves better using the AI powered TOEFL Go app. Indian test takers can gain valuable feedback and coaching on the new format and familiarise themselves with the shortest English language proficiency test, Sachin Jain, Country Manager, ETS India and South Asia, said. IRCTC website, mobile app down for hours due to technical reasons; restored

Ticketing service was not available on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation's (IRCTC) website and mobile application for some hours on Tuesday due to "technical reasons", officials said. The booking issue was later resolved, they said. To make the situation worse for passengers, the unreserved ticketing system (UTS) used for purchasing tickets through the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) also developed an undisclosed problem. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday launched a dedicated mobile app for its passengers for generating convenient and hassle-free mobile-based QR-code tickets for travelling across its network, officials said. The app 'DMRC TRAVEL' was formally launched by Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC from the Metro Bhawan here in the presence of senior officials. With this new mobile app, passengers can now purchase tickets directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to go to ticket counters or vending machines or stand in queues. Passengers can now experience a quick and efficient ticketing process, saving valuable time during their commute. India's app economy is expected to reach USD 791.98 billion by 2030, contributing 12 per cent to the country's estimated GDP of USD 6.59 trillion, a report commissioned by Broadband India Forum said on Friday. Civil aviation ministry asks users to update DigiYatra app to fix cache

The civil aviation ministry on Friday asked users to update the DigiYatra app to address app cache issues. The ministry's clarifications came a day after fintech firm BharatPe's co-founder Ashneer Grover tweeted that DigiYatra "won't work after new update". In a series of tweets, the ministry said the shared boarding pass QR code is available on the home screen of the app, so that passengers can easily scan it at the airport entry gate. Passengers can also go to the device folder, search and open the airline issued boarding pass PDF. "Android users are requested to update to version 2.0.1 which takes care of the app cache issues. Apple iOS App users, are also requested update to version 2.0.2 which is now available on the App Store. "Once you scan/ upload the boarding pass, a pop up window allows you to directly share the boarding pass to the Airport," it said. In another tweet, the ministry also appreciated the feedback given by Grover, saying it only helps to make the app work .
