Tally of nerve disorder GBS rises to 180 in Pune; Mumbai records first case

The tally of suspected Guillain-Barr syndrome (GBS) cases in the Pune region has reached 180, with the detection of seven cases, while a 64-year-old woman became the first patient diagnosed with the nerve disorder in Mumbai, officials said. The seven cases in Pune comprise four fresh cases and three from previous days, an official from the health department said on Friday. "Of the 180 suspected cases, 146 have been diagnosed with GBS. At least 35 patients are from Pune Municipal Corporation, 88 from newly added villages in the PMC area, 25 from the Pimpri Chinchwad civic limits, 24 from Pune Rural and eight from other districts. While 79 patients have been discharged, 58 are in ICU and 22 on ventilator support," a health department release said. The number of deaths in the region stood at six, it added. Mumbai reports its first case of GBS, 64-year old woman hospitalised

Mumbai reported its first case of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) on Friday after a 64-year-old woman was diagnosed with the rare nerve disorder, civic officials said. GBS is a rare condition in which a person's immune system attacks the peripheral nerves, resulting in muscle weakness, loss of sensation in the legs and/or arms, as well as problems swallowing or breathing. Talking to PTI, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner and its state-appointed administrator Bhushan Gagrani said the patient was currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a civic-run hospital. BMC officials said the woman, who resides in Andheri (East) area of the city, was hospitalised with a history of fever and diarrhoea that was followed by ascending paralysis. Raymond to develop Rs 1,800 cr housing project in Mumbai with landowner

Real estate company Raymond Ltd has partnered with a landowner to develop a housing project in Mumbai with an estimated revenue potential of Rs 1,800 crore. In a regulatory filing on Friday, Raymond Ltd said that "its 100 per cent owned step-down subsidiary, Ten X Realty West Ltd, has signed a joint development agreement of a prestigious residential project in the prime location of Mahim West, Mumbai." This landmark project is estimated to have a revenue potential of approximately Rs 1,800 crore, it added. Raymond Ltd did not disclose the name of the landowner and also the size of the land as well as total development potential in the upcoming project. Mumbai suburban network to get new trains to reduce overcrowding: Vaishnaw

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said the Mumbai suburban railway would soon get new-design trains fitted with better features for passenger comfort and reducing overcrowding. Railway projects of Rs 16,400 crore are in various stages of completion for Mumbai on the Central Railway and the Western Railway, Vaishnaw said on Monday while addressing a press conference via a video link from New Delhi. He also said the current time gap between two moving local trains is 180 seconds which will be brought down to 150 seconds and subsequently to 120 seconds to reduce over-crowding and operate more services. "A plan for new design trains on the Mumbai suburban network will be announced soon," the minister said. Realty firm Mahindra Lifespace Developers on Monday said it has bagged a redevelopment project in Mumbai with an estimated revenue of Rs 950 crore from the saleable area. In a regulatory filing, Mahindra Lifespace informed that the "company has been appointed as the developer for a redevelopment project in Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri West, Mumbai. The steel reinforcement cage for a pillar of the Thane-Wadala Metro Line 4 collapsed on the premises of a housing society in Mumbai, officials said on Friday. No one was injured in the accident that occurred around 11 pm on Thursday at Suman Nagar Junction in the Chunabhatti area, they said.
