Addressing an event in Ahmedabad via video link, he appealed to youngsters to support the country's efforts to become self-reliant by adopting indigenous products. "We launched Skill India Mission under which crores of youth are being prepared as skilled manpower in different fields. Today, a large part of the world is stuck in the problem of ageing; they need youth, and India has the capacity to provide youth to the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that guided by the mantra of reform, perform, and transform, India is in a position to help lift the world out of slow growth. Addressing the Economic Times World Leaders Forum here, the Prime Minister said India will soon become the world's third-largest major economy, and is on the way to becoming a developed nation by 2047. Observing that reform is a matter of commitment and conviction for his government, Modi said the next-generation GST reform process, which seeks to make the law simpler, will be completed before Diwali and bring down prices. PM Modi to visit Japan for summit, China for SCO meet from Aug 29 to Sept 1

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a four-day visit of Japan and China on August 29, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday. In the first leg of his trip, Modi will be in Japan on a two-day visit. From Japan, he will travel to China, primarily to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The announcement of the prime minister's visit to the two Asian countries came just days after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's trip to India. The MEA said Modi will be in Japan on August 29 and 30 to participate in the 15th India-Japan annual summit. This will be Modi's eighth visit to Japan as the prime minister. Hotel Association of India on Friday said the government's step to rationalise GST slabs has the potential to transform Indian hospitality into a globally competitive force, hoping for a tax rate of 5 per cent with input tax credit across hotels, restaurants, and tourism services.
