The Odisha government has decided to provide free online NEET and JEE coaching to class 11 and 12 students of various higher secondary schools in the state. Higher Secondary Education Director Raghuram R Iyer wrote a letter to principals of all government and non-government aided plus-II colleges in this regard on Wednesday. "It has been decided to provide supplementary online coaching to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)/Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) aspirants pursuing their studies in government and non-government aided higher secondary schools for enhancement of their competitive ability," Iyer said. The coaching will be provided in the virtual mode. Hence, the principals of higher secondary schools that don't have smart classrooms with interactive panels or smart TVs were asked to install the system. DMRC roped in as consultant for 1st phase of Rs 6,255 cr Bhubaneswar Metro

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was roped in as a turn-key consultant for the construction of the Bhubaneswar Metro's first phase, from the airport to Trishulia Square in Cuttack, officials said on Monday. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation and the DMRC for the project, which will be completed in four years, they said. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the agreement signals the emergence of a new epoch in the transportation history of Odisha. "We are now poised to transform the transportation landscape in the state's capital region. CM Patnaik sanctions Rs 45 cr to build community centres for minorities

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved Rs 45 crore for constructing 150 multi-purpose community centres for preserving the culture and heritage of the people belonging to minority communities in the state. The construction of multi-purpose cultural-cum-community centres will be taken up in 22 districts, he said. An amount of Rs 45 crore has been sanctioned for setting up these centres, he said. These facilities will serve Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and Sikhs. This initiative will go a long way towards the creation of space for the minority communities to undertake various community-based activities in the multi-purpose centres, the chief minister said. Odisha investing Rs 2,500 crore to support millet farmers: CM Patnaik

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday said his government is investing over Rs 2,500 crore for providing income and livelihood support to millet farmers of the state. The state government recently launched the Odisha Millets Mission in 2017 with a focus on reviving an ecosystem of the cereal. For the government, the promotion of millets is about justice and equity to rain-fed farmers of Odisha, Patnaik said. The authorities have increased the direct benefit incentives for millet farmers and laid out assured procurement of ragi (millet), he said after inaugurating a two-day International Convention on Millets here. Patnaik directs disaster management minister to visit AP train mishap site

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday directed Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marandi to visit neighbouring Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district where a train accident has killed 14 people. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Patnaik also asked Marandi to meet the injured persons undergoing treatment at different hospitals. At around 7 pm on Sunday, the Palasa Passenger train hit the Rayagada Passenger train from behind at Kantakapalli, causing three coaches to derail. Fourteen people have been killed and at least 50 injured, officials said. The locomotive pilots of Rayagada Passenger and a guard of the Palasa Passenger train have also died in the accident, they said. Patnaik had on Sunday night directed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu, and the district magistrates of Rayagada and Koraput to extend immediate assistance in the rescue and relief operations. Bhubaneswar to get Rs 5,900 cr metro, foundation stone to be laid on Jan 1

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the Bhubaneswar metro rail project on January 1 next year, officials said. Patnaik also approved its detailed project report (DPR) of over Rs 5,900 crore, which will be borne by the state government, they said. "The chief minister is slated to lay the foundation stone for the project on January 1, 2024," an official said. Patnaik approved the DPR while reviewing the status of Phase-I of the metro rail project. "The DPR has been approved at a total cost of Rs 5,929 crore, which will be fully borne by the state government," the official said. The Odisha government on Saturday approved 19 investment projects worth Rs 3,663 crore. These projects, approved during a meeting of the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena, are expected to generate employment for over 13,500 people, an official statement said. Odisha Mining Corp pays Rs 1,420 crore dividend to state govt

Iron ore producer Odisha Mining Corporation paid a dividend of Rs 1,420 crore to the state government for the 2022-23 fiscal, an official said on Thursday. Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik handed over a cheque of Rs 1,420 crore to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Wednesday, he said. Odisha Mining Corporation, one of the largest iron ore producers in the country, recorded a turnover of Rs 14,450 crore in the 2022-23 financial year. It has 18 operational mines and produced 29.68 mt of iron ore, 3 mt of bauxite and 1.08 mt of chrome ore, registering a 14.9 per cent growth in ore production over the previous financial year, the official added.
