Break silence on US' repeated claim about India-Pak ceasefire: Cong to PM

The Congress on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his "silence" on the Trump administration's repeated claims on how the India-Pakistan "ceasefire" was brought about. Congress general secretary in-charge Jairam Ramesh said, "The Prime Minister should let the country know whether it is true that the US Commerce Secretary Howard Luttnick filed a statement in the New York-based US Court of International Trade on May 23rd, 2025 swearing that President Trump used his tariff power to broker a 'tenuous ceasefire' between India and Pakistan and bring about a 'fragile peace'?" There was no immediate reaction from the government on it but it has maintained that India-Pakistan understanding on cessation of hostilities was arrived at following direct negotiations between the two sides. In a post on X, Ramesh further said, "Mr. Luttnick follows in the footsteps of President Trump himself who made this assertion 8 times in 11 days in 3 different countries. The US Secretary of

Ravi Shankar Prasad asks Indian diaspora in France to back anti-terror push

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad exhorted members of the Indian community in France to make every effort to showcase Brand India as a beacon of peace that is fighting against the global curse of terrorism. Addressing a gathering of community leaders and prominent members of the Indian diaspora in Paris on Monday evening, the all-party delegation led by Prasad conveyed the message that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam last month was a deliberate attempt to undermine peace and development in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. India's response with Operation Sindoor was precise, targeted, proportionate and non-escalatory and targeted at Pakistan-backed terrorist camps. When I see the growth of India, I am very proud of all of you because you are the brand ambassadors (of the country), said Prasad. Trump sought mileage from Indo-Pak conflict, made false claim: US lawmaker

US Congressman Shri Thanedar said on Monday that there was no basis for President Donald Trump to take credit for stopping the conflict between India and Pakistan, and accused him of seeking political mileage from the situation. In an interaction here at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Thanedar said that after the Pahalgam attack in which terrorists killed 26 people, it was natural for India to respond with Operation Sindoor' and the US certainly accepted New Delhi's position. He said India and Pakistan are capable of solving their issues. Neither India nor Pakistan invited the US to mediate, he said. Thanedar, a second-term US Representative representing Michigan's 13th Congressional District, has introduced seven articles of impeachment against President Trump. I don't think there was any basis for the announcement made by Trump. He only wanted to seek mileage out of it, so he made the announcement," he said. Op Sindoor paused after DGMO talks at Pak's request, Jaishankar on US role

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday told a parliamentary panel that Pakistan was informed by the DGMO about Indian strikes on terror camps in their territory only after they were executed, sources said. He also said he never spoke to Pakistan and cleared the air about alleged US "interference", saying the decision to halt the military operation was taken bilaterally after a request from the Pakistan side. Addressing members of the Consultative Committee on External Affairs here, the minister said the cessation of Operation Sindoor was done only after Pakistan DGMO asked for the halting of hostilities and there was no question of US mediation between the two, the sources said. The Congress and Rahul Gandhi have been targeting Jaishankar, alleging that he had informed Pakistan beforehand about the Indian strikes at terror camps. Referring to the criticism by the Congress, Jaishankar told the MPs that it was unfortunate that some leaders were doing politics over his ...
