Pakistan govt, PoK leaders sign agreement to end violent protests

After days of violent unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the federal government and protesters on Saturday signed an agreement to end the ongoing demonstrations that have left at least 10 people dead and hundreds injured. Violence marred the peace of the region due to a strike, which began on September 29 when talks broke down between officials and leaders of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), a representative body of protestors. The protestors had issued a charter of 38 points, urging the authorities to accept them or they would take to the roads, which they did eventually, leading to violent clashes with police that killed at least 10 people, including three police personnel. Hundreds of policemen and civilians were injured in the protests. As the unrest widened, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif dispatched a high-powered delegation to Muzaffarabad on Wednesday to find a negotiated solution to the problem. The team, led by former premier Raja Pervaiz

India slams Pakistan at UNHRC, calls rights allegations hypocritical

India slammed Pakistan at the UN Human Rights Council, saying a country with one of the world's worst human rights records should confront the rampant State-sponsored persecution and systemic discrimination of religious minorities in its own society. We find it deeply ironic that a country with one of the world's worst human rights records seeks to lecture others, Counsellor in the Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, K S Mohammed Hussain said while speaking during a General Debate at the 60th Session of Human Rights Council at Geneva. Their attempts to misuse this august forum with fabricated allegations against India only expose their hypocrisy. Instead of making baseless propaganda, they should confront the rampant State-sponsored persecution and systemic discrimination (of religious and ethnic minorities) that plague their own society, Hussain said Tuesday without mentioning any country. But it was a clear reference to Pakistan, whose representative, speaking before India, raked

Pakistan and India conflict was 'very big', I settled that: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday again claimed that he settled the "very big" conflict between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan. "I have settled so many wars since we're here. We're here almost nine months, and I've settled seven. And yesterday we might have settled the biggest of them all, although I don't know, Pakistan (and) India was very big, both nuclear powers, I settled that, Trump said in his remarks to military leaders in Quantico. Referring to his plan to end the Gaza conflict, announced on Monday, Trump said, We got it, I think settled. We'll see. Hamas has to agree, and if they don't, it's going to be very tough on them, but it is what it is. But all of the Arab nations, Muslim nations, have agreed." Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after a "long night" of talks mediated by Washington, he has repeated his claim nearly 50 times that he helped settle the tensions between India and

Jaishankar slams Pak at UNGA, calls it 'epicentre of global terrorism'

India has confronted the challenge of terrorism since independence, with a neighbour that is an epicentre of global terrorism, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday, in a sharp attack on Pakistan. In his address to the General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Jaishankar said that the most recent example of Pakistan's cross-border barbarism was the Pahalgam attack. Jaishankar began his address to world leaders from the UNGA podium with the salutation Namaskar from the people of Bharat. He said that for decades now, major international terrorist attacks have been traced back to that one country, a clear reference to Pakistan. "India has confronted the challenge of terrorism since independence, having a neighbour that is an epicentre of global terrorism, he said, amid applause from those present in the UNGA hall.
