'Maldives wants substantial ties with India, China'

Foreign Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, who is on a maiden official visit to India, on Monday said that his country wants to have a substantial relationship between India and China, while launching a scathing attack on former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen, saying that he tried to be a puppet master playing "India against China" and vice-versa.In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shahid, who arrived in India on November 24, spoke on the Maldives maintaining a balance in relations between India and China, saying, "Our policies would not be like that we would have an excellent relationship with our closest neighbour with our good friend India and also our development partner China. Kartarpur Corridor: Congress minister objects to Akali names on foundation stone

A controversy erupted Monday with a Congress minister objecting to the names of former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal engraved on the foundation stone to be laid for the Kartarpur Sahib corridor. Punjab's Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was reviewing the arrangements made for the function at Dera Baba Nanak here when he spotted the names of the Badals on the foundation stone. A furious Randhawa then enquired about it with the officials concerned. Chinese state-run media on Monday blamed the electoral defeat of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's party on her "separatist stance", saying it must make an "about-face" on ties with the mainland. Kerala Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas, a nominee of the Janata Dal (Secular) in the CPI(M)-led LDF government, on Monday submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The move comes after the JD(S), a key partner in the LDF, Friday decided to replace Thomas with Chittur MLA K Krishnankutty.
