Dikshit blames BJP, AAP for sealing, assures solution if Cong forms govt at Centre
Campaigning in North East Delhi areas on Tuesday, Congress candidate Sheila Dikshit blamed the BJP and the AAP for woes of the people hit by sealing drive and promised to stop it if her party comes to power at the Centre after the Lok Sabha election. Saying that she felt the "concern and anxiety" of women, being a mother and a housewife, Dikshit claimed that the sealing and demolition action has "ruined" lakhs of people in the city. One nomination rejected, 49 found valid for May 19 KTK bypolls
Of the total 50 candidates who had filed nominations for the May 19 byelections to two assembly constituencies in Karnataka, one has been rejected, election officials said Tuesday. Among 49 validly nominated candidates, 27 are from Chincholi and 22 from Kundgol assembly segments. One nomination that has been rejected is from Kundgol. Both the constituencies have two women each as candidates. While May 2 is the last date for withdrawal, the bypoll results will be declared on May 23 along with Lok Sabha results. The bypoll to Chincholi has been necessitated by the resignation of sitting member Umesh Jadhav who quit the Congress and joined the BJP to contest the recent Lok Sabha polls from Gulbarga, while Kundgol seat fell vacant following the death of minister C S Shivalli. 'Outright rigging': CPI(M) demands fresh polls in Tripura West Lok Sabha seat
Demanding fresh elections in the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat, the CPI(M) on Tuesday alleged that the polling there was marred by "large-scale irregularities and outright rigging". The party said it has written to the Election Commission and even submitted documents to prove their case for repolling in the seat, where elections were held in the first phase on April 11. "We commend the demand of the Left Front Committee of Tripura to countermand the entire election in 1-Tripura West constituency and hold fresh polls.
