Probe into alleged corruption in FCI a wake-up call: Piyush Goyal

Food Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday termed the CBI investigation into alleged corruption in Food Corporation of India (FCI) a "wake-up call" for the state-owned firm and asserted that those involved in corrupt practices will not be spared. FCI - the government's nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains - would follow the principle of zero tolerance for corruption, the minister said. Goyal stated this while delivering the inaugural address at the 59th Foundation Day of FCI here, an official statement said. It's a wake-up call for the organisation and those found involved in corrupt practices will not be spared, Goyal was quoted as saying while referring to the ongoing investigation into the alleged cases of corruption in FCI. He said FCI will follow the principle of zero tolerance for corruption and there is a need to ensure that there is not a single corrupt employee in FCI. Goyal directed the officials to institutionalise a mechanism wherein whistleblowers .

Probe into death of two Russians being conducted in open mind: Odisha DGP

As sleuths of the CID and the Crime Branch are investigating the death of two Russians, including a lawmaker of that country, Odisha DGP S K Bansal on Sunday said the probe is being conducted in an "open mind" and "no evidence of any foul play" has been found so far. Pavel Antov (65), a lawmaker in Russia, died after allegedly falling from a hotel's third floor in Rayagada on December 24, while his friend Vladimir Bidenov (61) was found dead in his room on December 22. Two separate cases of unnatural deaths were registered at the Sadar Police Station in Rayagada. There is "no evidence of any foul play so far" behind the death of the two Russians, the DGP said. Replying to a question on whether help from Interpol will be sought, the DGP said the CID-CB will seek the assistance of the International Criminal Police Organization, if needed. The CID of Odisha Police seized burnt remnants of two Russian nationals including a lawmaker from the cremation ground at Rayagada for forensic examination as part of its probe into the mystery over the twin deaths of the foreigners. Bulldozing of houses in name of investigation not provided under law: HC

The Gauhati High Court has stressed that "bulldozing of a house is not provided under any criminal law", even if an agency is investigating a "very serious matter". Chief Justice RM Chhaya made the observation on Thursday, while hearing a suo motu case taken up by the high court regarding demolition of the house of an accused in Batadrava Police Station arson case in Nagaon district of Assam. The Batadrava Police Station was set on fire on May 21 by an irate mob following the alleged custodial death of a local fish trader, Safikul Islam (39), who was picked up by police the night before. A day later, the district authorities had bulldozed at least six houses, including Islam's, purportedly in search of weapons and drugs hidden beneath the structures. National transportation officials are in Dallas on Sunday investigating the cause of the midair crash of two historic military planes during an air show that left six people dead. High-level probe to be conducted into Karnataka's Gangolli jetty collapse

A high-level probe will be conducted into the recent collapse of the mini-jetty at Gangolli fishing port in Udupi district, Karnataka Minister for Fisheries and Ports S Angara has said. The probe team, which will be directed to conduct the investigation in a transparent manner, will be announced on Monday, he told reporters after a spot inspection at the jetty on Thursday evening. Angara, who is also the Udupi district-in-charge Minister, said the contractor who was awarded the work will be blacklisted and all those found guilty will be punished. The minister said the government had spent Rs 10 crore for the construction of the jetty. A technical probe into the collapse of Miami's surfside condo has been launched by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) affiliated with the US Commerce Department."Today the US Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced it would launch a full technical investigation into what caused the partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South Condominium in Surfside, Florida, on June 24, 2021," the Commerce Department's NIST said in a press release on Wednesday.The release said that officials are on site of the incident but will not enter the actual ground of the collapse until it is considered safe to do so.
