Stickers with pictures of Israel flag have been found pasted on roads in some parts of Maharashtra's Pune city following which the police have registered four FIRs against a number of people, officials said on Monday. According to the police, some people allegedly pasted stickers of the Israel flag on roads in Kondhwa, Bhawani Peth, Nana Peth and Pune cantonment areas with the intention of disturbing social harmony and disrespect late Friday night, against the backdrop of the Hamas-Israel conflict. The cases have been registered under Indian Penal Code Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot if rioting be committed if not committed) with Samarth, Khadak, Lashkar and Kondhwa police stations, the officials said. A training aircraft belonging to a private aviation academy crashed near a village in Maharashtra's Pune district on Sunday morning, injuring a trainee pilot and an instructor on board the plane, police said. The aircraft crashed near Gojubavi village under Baramati taluka at around 8 am, they said. "A training aircraft, belonging to the Redbird Flight Training Academy, crashed near Gojubavi village. A trainee pilot and an instructor suffered injuries in the crash. Both have been rushed to a nearby hospital," Baramati police station's senior inspector Prabhakar More said. "The cause of the crash is not yet known. We are conducting a probe into the incident," he said. This is the second such incident involving the private aviation academy's aircraft in four days. On Thursday evening, a training aircraft of the academy crashed near Kaftal village in Baramati taluka, injuring a pilot, according to the police.

Nearly 25 motorbikes were gutted in a fire which broke out at a two-wheeler service station in Maharashtra's Pune city on Thursday morning, a fire official said. No person was injured in the incident, he said. The fire control room received a call at 7.45 am about the blaze at the service station located on Sinhgad Road, the official said. "After receiving the call, five water tenders were dispatched to the spot and the blaze was brought under control in some time. Around 20 to 25 two-wheelers, which were brought for servicing purpose, were completely gutted in the fire," the official said. The cause of the blaze was not yet known, he added.
Police have booked Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote and three others for allegedly giving "provocative" speeches during an agitation in Pune recently, said officials on Monday. On September 4, some Hindutva organizations, along with the BJP had held a protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters in the city and sought the removal of an unauthorised structure from near a temple. According to Shivajinagar police station officials, the organizers had not taken prior permission from authorities for the protest. During the agitation outside the PMC main gate, Ekbote and three others - Kunal Kamble, Kiran Shinde and Vishal Pawar -- gave "provocative speeches" which had the potential to create a rift between two communities, they said. Heavy rains flooded many parts of Nagpur city, following which 180 people, including 40 students from a school for the hearing and speech-impaired, were rescued, said Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavi on Saturday. The National Disaster Response (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are rescuing people from flooded homes and streets. Two Army units are reaching the Ambazari area, where a lake overflowed, said Fadnavis. The city received torrential downpours from Friday midnight. The Pune police control room received a phone call, originating from the US, in the wee hours of Tuesday in which the person on the other side informed about presence of a "suspected terrorist" in Mumbai, said an official. The call was received at around 1 am and the Pune police immediately contacted their counterparts in Mumbai and informed about it. "The police control room received a call in which the caller informed us about a particular person in Mumbai, asked us to check on him, and claimed that person is a suspected terrorist. We immediately informed the Mumbai police about the call and they are looking into it," said the official. He said the call originated from the US. It appears the call was fishy as locations of both the caller and the person about whom he gave information were later traced to America, said another police officer.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday carried out a raid in connection with the Pune ISIS module case and seized a host of incriminating material exposing the banned terrorist organisation's conspiracy to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the country, an official said. The raid was conducted on the house of arrested accused Shamil Saquib Nachan, an alleged member of an ISIS sleeper cell, at Padgha in Thane in Maharashtra. Several mobile phones, hard disks and some handwritten documents were seized during the raid and are being examined, a spokesperson of the anti-terror central agency said.
