Average housing price in Pune has risen 11 per cent to Rs 5,208 per square feet in the last year on better demand, according to a report by realty firm Gera Developments. Pune-based realty firm Gera Developments has come out with its bi-annual 'The Gera Pune Residential Realty Report', which is based on primary and proprietary research and covers all existing projects in a 30 km radius of the city centre. "The Pune real estate market is showing dual signs of both boom and consolidation at the same time. The prices have gone up 11.03 per cent from Rs 5,208 per sq ft in June 2022 to Rs 5,782 per sq ft in June 2023. Realty firm Macrotech Developers on Tuesday reported a 17 per cent growth in its sales bookings at Rs 3,350 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal year, mainly on better housing demand. Macrotech Developers, which sells properties under Lodha brand, had sold properties worth Rs 2,860 in the year-ago period. In a regulatory filing, Macrotech Developers informed that the company achieved its best-ever first quarter pre-sales performance at Rs 33.5 billion (Rs 3,350 crore) showing a growth of 17 per cent on a year-on-year basis. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said an electric vehicle facility and an EV battery manufacturing unit in Pune and Aurangabad, respectively, are among the Rs 40,000 crore worth of projects sanctioned by the state government. Talking to reporters here, Shinde said the EV and battery manufacturing units will come up with an investment of Rs 12,482 crore. He said a private company, Gogora India Pvt Ltd, will set up 12,000 battery swapping stations across the state in the next few years. A battery swapping station is a place where EV owners can quickly exchange their empty battery with a fully charged one. The CM said these projects will provide a boost to the fast-growing EV sector.

Four people were killed and three injured when a chemical-laden tanker caught fire following an accident and exploded on Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Tuesday, police said. The accident took place on the expressway stretch between Lonavala and Khandala, an official said. The tanker caught fire following an accident and exploded causing fiery balls of the chemical to fall on the motorists travelling on the road below, he said. Four motorists on the road below sustained injuries, of which three died, while one occupant of the tanker was killed and two others in the vehicle were injured, said the official from Lonavala police station. The injured were rushed to a hospital, he said, adding that the fire at the scene has been extinguished.
