PVR INOX Q1 results: Net loss widens to Rs 179 cr on delay in film releases

Cinema exhibitor PVR INOX Ltd on Friday reported a widening of consolidated net loss to Rs 179 crore in the June quarter impacted by postponement of film releases due to general elections. The company had posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 82 crore in the first quarter last fiscal, PVR INOX said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated revenue from operations were at Rs 1,190.7 crore in the first quarter, down from Rs 1,304.9 crore in the year-ago period, it added. Total expenses were higher at Rs 1,457.5 crore as compared to Rs 1,437.7 crore in the corresponding period in the last fiscal. "The quarter began on a soft note, with April and May getting impacted due to the general elections, which were the second longest in India's history at 44 days," the company said in its earnings statement. No Malayalam film will be given to PVR-owned screen or theatre: FEFKA

The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) on Saturday said that no Malayalam film will be given to any PVR owned screen or theatre till it compensates producers from the southern state for the loss suffered by them due to the multiplex company not showing films made by them across India. FEFKA general secretary Unnikrishnan B announced the decision at a press conference held here where noted producers like Blessy Ipe Thomas and Vineeth Sreenivasan were also present. Unnikrishnan said that there was an ongoing dispute between PVR and the film producer's association on the issue of virtual print fee (VPF) charged by the multiplex company. The producers' association decided not to give any films to PVR's new screen at Forum Mall till the dispute was resolved, he said. PVR Inox Q3 results: Net profit at Rs 12.8 crore; revenue at Rs 15,459 cr

Cinema exhibitor PVR INOX on Wednesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 12.8 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal. The company, earlier known as PVR Ltd, posted a net profit of Rs 165 crore in the October-December period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing. Its revenue from operations stood at Rs 1,545.9 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal. In the year-ago period, the same was at Rs 940 crore. The December quarter results came after the merger of rival Inox into PVR, hence it is not comparable, the company said. "Consolidated financial results for the quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2023 are not comparable to those reported for quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2022 due to the amalgamation of PVR INOX Limited (formerly known as PVR) with INOX Leisure Ltd with effect from January 1, 2023," it said. PVR Pictures renamed as PVR INOX Pictures after merger with Inox Leisure

PVR Pictures has been renamed as PVR INOX Pictures following the merger of PVR and Inox Leisure. The merged entity is operating 361 cinemas with 1,689 screens across 115 cities till the end of FY23 in India and Sri Lanka. PVR Pictures was the film production and distribution arm of PVR Group. According to a statement on Wednesday, PVR INOX Pictures intends to increase investments in content acquisition for the Indian market, and generate further opportunities for under-represented storytellers and independent creators. "With a wider screen network, it will expand its programming and marketing capabilities and create highly innovative experiences, bringing significant value to its partners as well as to its customers," it said. The company made a successful film production debut in 2007 with Taare Zameen Par and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. PVR-INOX Ltd has been created after the merger of two leading cinema brands PVR Ltd and INOX Leisure. The merger was effective from February 6, 2023.

PVR aims to operate 1,000 screens by FY24-end, invest Rs 300 cr: JMD

Multiplex operator PVR aims to operate 1,000 screens by the end of FY24, by adding 100 more screens in the next 15 months, the company's Joint Managing Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli said. The company, which on Monday achieved the milestone of 900 screens, would invest around Rs 300 crore to add another 100 screens, Bijli said. As part of the expansion, the company is entering into newer cities, especially in the south and east parts of the country, where it has a negligible presence. PVR is looking for smaller cities, which are unserved and have "high potential", said Bijli. When asked about expansion, Bijli said, in the current quarter, PVR would add 30 screens. Moreover, some of the screens which are currently under fit-outs would also be ready for operation in the March quarter. Film exhibition company PVR Cinemas has opened Kerala's first ever IMAX along with a 12-screen superplex at Lulu Mall in the state capital here. Multiplex chain PVR's shareholders approve merger with rival INOX Leisures

Multiplex operator PVR on Wednesday said it has received the nod from its shareholders for the scheme of merger with rival Inox Leisure. The leading cinema exhibitor convened a meeting of its shareholders on Tuesday following the directions of the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) The proposal was passed by over 99 per cent of the number of valid votes cast, said the scrutiniser's report of the meeting shared by PVR. In June this year, both PVR and Inox Leisure said they had received clearance for their merger from bourses NSE and BSE. On March 27, PVR and Inox Leisure announced the merger to create the largest multiplex chain in the country with a network of more than 1,500 screens to unlock the opportunities in tier III, IV and V cities, besides in the developed markets. PVR to invest Rs 350 cr in 100 new screens; expects Inox merger by Feb 2023

Film exhibition company PVR Cinemas will invest up to Rs 350 crore to open 100 new screens in FY23, a top official said on Monday. It also expects its mega-merger with Inox Leisure to close by February 2023, after which it will start to run as a combined business, PVR's chief executive Gautam Dutta told PTI over the phone. Pointing to the company's performance in the April-June quarter, he said patrons are coming back to halls to enjoy the cinema experience and the food and beverage sales are also up, which makes it more optimistic about expansion. "We will invest up to Rs 350 crore to open 100 screens in FY23. I see the same trend continuing in the next 2-3 years as well," Dutta said, stressing that the expansion will be a balanced one across geographies. About 60 per cent of the new screens will be in cities where the company already has a presence, while the rest will be in newer ones, he added.
