The Rajasthan government has decided to procure food items and distribute them to beneficiaries under the Annapurna scheme through district-level committees headed by district collectors, an official source said on Monday. Earlier, the cooperative department was given this task. However, the state government has now decided to do this through district-level committees. The Chief Minister Free Annapurna Food Packet Scheme was announced by Ashok Gehlot during the presentation of the state's budget for 2023-24 in February to provide relief to the masses from rising prices. "The district-level committee will procure items and will distribute the food kits," an official source told PTI. Under the scheme, which will be introduced soon, free food packets will be provided to families covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). 30 rescued, Ajmer hospital inundated as heavy rains lash Rajasthan

Around 30 people were rescued in Pali and Jalore districts and a government hospital in Ajmer was inundated as there was no let-up in rains in Rajasthan, officials said on Monday. Parts of Rajasthan have been pounded by heavy to extremely heavy rainfall triggered by a depression, a remnant of Cyclone Biparjoy which made landfall in neighbouring Gujarat on June 15 and left behind a trail of destruction. The depression has now moved towards eastern parts of the desert from central and western parts, according to meteorological department officials. A flood-like situation prevails in Jalore, Sirohi, Barmer and Pali districts that have been lashed by extremely heavy rainfall for two days, leaving many areas inundated and cutting off connectivity to several villages, the officials said. Water also entered many houses in low-lying areas. Fifty-nine people were rescued on Sunday from Rajasthan's Jalore, Sirohi and Barmer districts which are facing a flood-like situation due to heavy rainfall caused by cyclonic storm Biparjoy, officials said. Heavy rains in Rajasthan due to Cyclone Biparjoy, rail traffic affected

Heavy rains occurred in some areas of Rajasthan on Friday under the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy which moved towards the state in the form of a deep depression following its landfall in Gujarat, officials said on Friday. Rail traffic in the North Western Railway zone was affected by the heavy rainfall with 14 trains cancelled. The Rajasthan government has also temporarily suspended the inflation relief camps in districts where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rains. After churning across the Arabian Sea for more than 10 days, Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall near Jakhau Port in Gujarat on Thursday and left a trail of destruction in the western coastal state's Kutch and Saurashtra regions.
