Delhi flyover 'irregularities': Govt may take call on Lokpal observations

The Delhi government may soon take a call on a recent Lokpal bench order that found six officers guilty of "criminal intent" and "misconduct" in connection with alleged irregularities related to the Rani Jhansi flyover, official sources said on Monday. The Lokpal, in its order passed earlier this month, noted that it can not exercise jurisdiction in the matter as it was time-barred and filed more than seven years after the occurrence of the alleged offence. "We are of the considered view that the Lokpal of India cannot exercise jurisdiction in the matter being barred by limitation. At the same time, we hasten to add that, it is open to the competent authority...and take it to its logical end including criminal proceedings before the competent court in accordance with law, if so advised," said the order by a Lokpal bench. The Lokpal, referring to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) enquiry reports in the matter, said the "misconduct with criminal intent" of the officers has come t

Delhi CM allocates Rs 900 crore for slums; takes 'Sheesh Mahal' jibe at AAP

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced an allocation of more than Rs 900 crore for providing basic amenities in slum clusters as she accused the previous AAP government of building a "Sheesh Mahal" and neglecting the needs of slumdwellers. She also took a jibe at the opposition AAP MLAs, saying in a lighter vein that the "Sheesh Mahal" would be included in Delhi's tourism circuit. The BJP -- which returned to power in Delhi after more than 26 years -- built its poll campaign narrative around corruption to corner AAP and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, dubbing the former chief minister's official residence a "Sheesh Mahal" for its "lavishness". The BJP has already announced that its chief minister would not reside in the bungalow and that it would be put to some other public use. Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, on Tuesday presented the city government's 2025-26 budget with an outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore, marking a 31.5 per cent increase from the previous ...

Will bring white paper on previous AAP govt's tenure: Delhi CM Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday that her government will present a "white paper" on the tenure of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime in the national capital. She said this during a discussion on the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) in the Assembly. The first budget session of the eighth Delhi Assembly is underway. Earlier in the day, Gupta tabled the CAG report, which is expected to shed light on the financial and operational aspects of the DTC. She also said the economic survey will be tabled soon, as audits in different departments are still ongoing. Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the first budget of the BJP government in Delhi in more than 26 years on Tuesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in the capital last month, after defeating the AAP in the Assembly polls. The five-day budget session began on Monday morning with a traditional "kheer" ceremony.
