Drought-like situation, power crisis in Madhya Pradesh: CM Chouhan

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said a drought-like situation and power crisis have emerged in Madhya Pradesh due to no rains last month and he appealed to people to pray for good showers in the state. The state government is making efforts to purchase power from other states, but such a situation is prevailing in the entire country, Chouhan told reporters in Ujjain after offering prayers at the Mahakaleshwar temple. The assembly elections in the state are due this year-end. The month of August has almost been dry, so a drought situation is arising in Madhya Pradesh now. Crops are in danger. I have prayed to Mahakal that it rains well and the crops be saved, Chouhan said. I appeal to the people in villages and cities to pray according to their local traditions for good rains. The prayers are heard, they work. If the prayers are offered with true sentiments, God showers blessings, the CM said. The state government will leave no stone unturned to work for the welfare

MP govt to provide food to labourers through mobile kitchens: CM Chouhan

The Madhya Pradesh government will open mobile kitchens where labourers can buy food at an affordable rate, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday as he reiterated that meals are being provided at Rs 5 under the Deendayal Rasoi Yojana (DRY). Chouhan launched the third phase of DRY under which kitchens are opened in the limits of 66 municipal councils in the state, where elections are due this year-end. So far, meals have been provided to more than 2.25 crore people through these 166 kitchens. Chouhan reiterated meals (food plate or thali) are being provided at Rs 5 instead of earlier Rs 10 under this scheme. "Mobile kitchens will soon be opened in urban areas to provide meals at affordable rates to labourers near their workplaces. All urban bodies of the state will be covered under this scheme," the chief minister said. He said kitchens will be opened in areas under 90 Nagar Panchayats with more than 20,000 population. MP CM expands cabinet, inducts 3 new members months ahead of assembly polls

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday expanded his cabinet by inducting three BJP MLAs as ministers just months ahead of the state assembly polls to be held by the end of the year. With this, there are now 34 members in the Chouhan-led cabinet. State Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office as ministers to three legislators at the Raj Bhavan here around 9 am. Former minister Rajendra Shukla, a Brahmin leader and four-time MLA from Rewa in the Vindh region, Gaurishankar Bisen, a seven-time legislator from Balaghat in the Mahakoshal region who is also the chairman of the MP Backward Class Commission and first-time MLA from Khargapur in Tikamgarh district of Bundelkhand region Rahul Lodhi took oath as ministers. While Shukla and Bisen took oath as cabinet ministers, Lodhi was sworn-in as minister of state. They are yet to be allotted portfolios, a Raj Bhavan official told PTI.
